[ her fists tighten by her sides, and her fingers dig into her palms, blunted only by the gloves covering them.

Spike in pump pressure detected. You should calm yourself, 2B.

that is what her pod tells her. her mouth feels dry. her jaw is strained. she remembers, squid after squid. one. two. three. the third was spared only because of interference. only because the truth was spoken, there. ]

I know. [ but she does not enjoy the tone spoken to her. there was less bite than she would've immediately liked in her response. she wasn't made to mouth off humans, she was made to serve them, or better yet, their ideals. her dry mouth goes sour. ] If I see a beast, it is a beast.

[interesting reaction. he wonders how many beasts she's killed already? or in reality, how many people she's murdered. it's true some of the beasts may have been nothing more than corrupted animals, but why assuage her mechanical guilt?

the sudden voice from the floating item beside her draws dabi's attention, especially when it mentions pump pressure and calming down. a robot with... pump pressure? does that mean synthetic blood (or oil)? he's not a mechanical person, but it's strange to see a robot being told to calm down.

it's not hard to see the way her jaw sets, but beyond that, and her fists, she's keeping her composure. dabi opts not to push her. let her do that herself. it won't change the reality of what she's done or what's to come.]

That's the better way of doin it. Helps ya sleep at night.

[ 2B would otherwise be thankful for the pause. it gives her time to calm, time to gather herself and a way toward handling it better. her connection with pod is literal. it tells her to continue even though she wishes not to. that was the point of talking then, was it? and was it supposed to help her psychological progress?

what a pain indeed. it helps her sleep, but it does not change the facts. she starts when she's ready. ]

I have killed two Sleeper beasts. One human, and one of my own. I was made for one job, not the other.

[always interesting to see someone who had the aim to protect or save a person suddenly find out that their actions have led to the pain, misery, and/or death of the very thing they've been assigned to protect or save. the irony in the event is hilarious. dabi's orchestrated a few instances of that in his life for personal reasons, but the reaction never changes.

it's one of the best ways to break a heroic type. or force them to harden their hearts and rationalize away their failures with those trite excuses so many are prompt to use.]

I'm gonna guess that job is to take out monsters, not people.

[ this was new to her, these "monster" types. if they were a danger to humanity, then it was a threat. that much was simply hardwiring. now, what she's about to say— she's never said it out loud. the fact that she wants to say it and realizes it doesn't come through (classified information) irks her. it does more than irk her. it reminds her of a red flag. ]

Machines life forms.

[something that's "not safe" and "not human" is basically a monster when humans are considered. she's been designed or ordered or built -- whatever -- to stop things that endanger humans. the amusing part is, now she's having to kill corrupted humans to protect those very humans. but she seems to have adapted to the information well enough dabi doesn't feel like pressing the point. he's not that desperate.]

Who built the machines?

Extraterrestrials.

[ by nevermind's satisfaction— a raven crows and drops the bracelet at their feet. whatever difficult thing for either of them to talk about has been said. ]

Humans had fled to a moon colony in my time. Earth had been overrun.

Seriously?

[He doesn't sound all that convinced by her words. Seen plenty of people from other worlds, and talked to them, but someone saying their problems were caused by aliens is a new one.

The question's put on pause when the raven suddenly flies by and deposits their rewards. Dabi quirks a brow at the gifts before crouching down to swipe them up.]

Bullshit. Earth's moon can't hold all the Earth's humans.

[Offers her one of the bracelets, in case she's gonna renege on the earlier agreement.]

It wasn’t “all of them”.

[ 2B holds a hand up in quiet, professional protest. no thank you, she wouldn’t even know what to do with those. she keeps to her word— he could have them. they were far better off in his hands than hers. ]

Only the ones who survived.

["just the survivors", huh. dabi doesn't need her to finish the words, predicting the continuation easily enough. she completes the thought regardless, mostly since dabi's accepting her promise and pocketing both bracelets for himself. he's not one to ask a second time.]
