11 . clockhouse rebuilding!

Who: Those who have offered to help rebuild the Clockhouse, and anyone else who'd like to pitch in!
What: An open mingle log to repair after fires and floods.
When: Throughout September, precise dates not specified.
Where: In Gaze, at the forest's edge.

[ When the weather and chaos dies down, work on the Clockhouse picks up. The building was once an old Deerington mansion, luridly green and eccentric; age faded it into half a ruin, and July's fire did the rest. August's flooding came fast and hard, and now there's very little left to salvage.

The first step has been a damage assessment, with volunteers picking through the structurally unstable ruins, finding singed fiction novels, crisped houseplants, and a weird number of melted grandfather clocks. Demolition goes quickly, while Ozpin stands by and does not even try to control the situation.

Volunteers are needed to design the new structure, carry in materials, and build... and then to decorate and enchant what they've created. The few Sleepers with genuine construction experience provide direction, Ozpin sometimes among them, but things are largely chaotic. A few Sleepers provide snacks and cheerleading.

[Look- Nothing can brighten her day quite like seeing Ange laugh. She's had to work awfully hard to get those out of her soon to be wife and she was ready to treasure each and every one of them.

But Ange puts a dumb thought in her head and now she's going to have to pay for that.]

I mean- If that's the case I can always carry you around all over the place if you'd like?

[And just to prove it she'll move to scoop her up in her arms and spin her around in a circle.]

[ Alice is somewhat loath to let them out of her sight, possibly because then she has to mentally keep track of two things than are not in her immediate eyeball range. On the other hand: ]

We have lots of nets left over from that moon we all got really worried about letting people out of the house and I shackled you to the wall and you tickled me forever over it.

Name: Battler Ushiromiya

Relevant skills or powers: Some reality manipulation, but not much beyond being a strong young guy who can move things.

Things that go well: He can follow instructions! He can put things in place!

Things that go weird: He might include some butterfly motifs here and there. Occasionally.

[ Battler is here to help his sister (and his new in-laws) rebuild the place and that means tearing it all down! So he's stripped to a t-shirt and jeans and gloves and going at it with a crowbar, carrying loads of debris, and generally making himself useful.

But he does have to jump a little when a bird turns into a man. Even if he's half used to magic now. ]

Whoa-! Hey, warn a guy.

General Henstable? What's that-?

[ And Battler half-turns away from what he's doing to follow the chase. Looks like Ruby might need a little bit of a hand here... ]

1. Tear-Down

[ Battler's here to help, of course. How could he not be? It's his sister and the people his sister cares about. The idea of not being here was alien to him. Even with his powers, he's not a designer or anything - but he can provide a lot of muscle as a young, healthy guy. So she's out there with a crowbar knocking things over, tearing out rubble, or just carting stuff out of the way. He might need a hand with a few bigger pieces of debris, though. Especially since he's not that much stronger than your average guy. He pauses, mopping his brow. ]

Hey, help me life this, will you? Let's get this beam out of the way-

2. Rebuild

[ The building feels better, somehow. Like he's adding something back into the world rather than taking out. Like he's able to pour some of the love he wasn't able to pass on to Ange into this building so that it'll last. So that it'll be a home for her, here in this strange place, far away from everything else they've ever known. He's up and down ladders, helping with framing, and toting things hither and yon. He bends over a long beam and squints as he carefully marks it and then he glances up. ]

Mind holding this for me?I need to try and cut...

[ Which... should be easy. Right? Right. ]

Name: Beatrice the Golden Witch

Relevant skills or powers: The Golden Magic! She can basically talk anything back into taking it's proper form.

Things that go well: She restores the library, mostly, to its original state and most of the books are back where they belong!

Things that go weird: There's a plaque in the library with a really weird epitaph/riddle...

I'm not the one who's going to sit up there with a sniper rifle. [ Just saying!!

Though honestly, Ange is pretty sure it's not like Ruby would mind stairs either. That girl has way too much energy for her own good in the first place. ]

It's just that stuff gets so weird here sometimes [ and even more so with some of her housemates' suggestions.. ] that it's kind of refreshing to think about something as normal as stairs for once. Instead of.. you know. Some weird blood teleportation device or whatever.

[ Yes, lamps exist here, but don't ruin the point like that by thinking too hard about it. It's just about his place's ridiculous aesthetic and inventions. ]

[ Honestly, that's the reaction Ange is hoping for.

Maybe not the part where she punishes Break for it in such a way, because Ange would certainly not be happy with it if the witch did as much as touch someone she cares for so much, but it would be kind of nice if it'd miff Beatrice, even if it's just a little bit.

Ange can be mature enough to at least not continue a dumb spiraling cycle of hate and hurt in this place, but she feels like she's allowed to still be at least a little bit petty in return for everything she's had to endure in life at that witch's hands.

Still, as Ange replies, her tone sounds very casual.

Despite the words themselves being anything but. ]

If she does anything to you, I'm going to dump her dead body into the ocean.

Thankfully - for Shiro's sake - Ange definitely remembers Buttman, so he won't get any judgey looks for it. Especially since it's not a name he chose for himself. It proves that Shiro is capable of making good decisions.

Sometimes.

Even him handing her that board isn't a bad decision. Ange looks a little surprised at how light it is. After all, if she can easily hold onto something? Then it's definitely not heavy.

"Are you telling me to show off?" .. for a moment she considers adding 'Buttman', but no, she's not that cruel. Not to people she likes, anyway, and Shiro firmly falls into that category.

Well, yes, obviously --

[Break does not necessarily condone the Trenchian revenge culture going on amongst the Sleepers, but he also knows better than to argue with Ange Ushiromiya about Beatrice of all people visiting physical harm upon someone she considers family, even if Break started it in the first place by being generically terrible. It is the Umineko way.]

Oh my god-- Ruby!

[ Ange doesn't sound angry. She does sound flustered, but not the kind of flustered where she starts shrieking about the various ways in which she'll take revenge for being embarrassed in such a way.

Maybe it's since it's hard to shift out of the nice mood they have going, even though Ange is definitely embarrassed to suddenly be carried like this. The woes of having a way too strong girlfriend.. ]

What if people see?!

[ .. you know, Ange, if you shriek like that, then people are definitely going to see.. ]

[ Granted. Granted. This isn't some sarcastic remark - for once, since that definitely wouldn't have been uncommon when coming from Ange of all people.

Instead she seems a little genuinely concerned for his safety here. It's not very audible in her tone, but at the very least it makes her voice sound more neutral than sarcastic as she's glancing at the guy while he's looking at the beam. ]

Have you done it before?

[ P-Please don't get injured in the middle of a construction site? ]

You could always install one of those later.

Yeah, why wouldn't I be able to? It's just a saw.

[ He seems pretty confident. Even if he's not really an expert on construction or carpentry. He's seen it done! How hard could it be? ]

[ Of course Ange wouldn't let him stick around in such a guise. It's why she can joke around about it in the first place.

At least she does let Break in on that too, instead of just dangling this eternal frog life above his head, waving a dismissive hand. ]

It should be fine though. My magic and her magic is technically the same - or close enough, at this point. [ Since Ange's magic did drift a little bit away from the exact kind of endless magic Beatrice uses, thanks to the influences in Trench. ] Which means that the worst possible fate for you would be being transformed back and forth between being a frog and being a human, kind of like that dress at the end of the movie where that one princess is very grossly awoken by a guy kissing her while she's asleep.

[ Of course that's the part of Sleeping Beauty Ange would opt to focus on, right. ]

[Ow.

Like, if someone Break had met exactly once kissed him awake even if it was to fix a curse he'd absolutely punch them in the face and he's encouraged the Alices to do the same because any man worth anything will consider it charming. But still. That one is his favorite, so ow.

Much more importantly:]

...that won't do at all. Turning into a frog isn't nearly so cool as turning into a crow, especially if I'm not going about it on my own. I can't look that lame next to him when he's already got that scythe.

[Break dislikes Harbinger as a concept, honestly, but look. The damn thing's extra as hell and kids love that nonsense and Qrow is so professional at wielding it that you can't help but admire him and Break is not immune to any of that. His current mental image of Qrow being all amazing while he himself hops angrily along on the ground is very potent.]

Paimon follows the other's gesture around, taking in the scene before them again. He's largely been fixated on his own tasks — keeping close to Luna to assist her, or finding little areas of solitude to craft things. But now the demon takes in the work as more of a whole, what's been accomplished so far. It's really coming along.

Then his eyes return to Duty, absorbing his features with a pressing curiosity. To finally get to meet the person behind the conversation...! It's stayed with the demon king, certainly.

"I am also assisting. But my vessel..." Paimon slowly glances down to himself, drifting his fingertips down Peter's chest. "...can not handle much of my power. It makes him go away." ....Hit the ground.

Yeah- Well you deserved it!

[Look. A little tickling never killed anyone and Alice did her her literally chained up. It was totally fair.]

But still- That's a good idea! Do you have the nets nearby?

We can probably lure them into a corner and get them.

The docks....? Peter pauses for a moment, searching his memory. Maybe he's forgotten some recent journey there, but from what he remembers he hasn't been down there in a good while. It's not a place he typically goes.

But there was a time, some months back. Corruption was drawing things out of him, certain impulses. It was Paimon's presence that led Peter to seek a certain peace out near the water. And... there was someone there, once. Someone not human, but....

"...Wait. Were you..." Peter's staring at Luca, taking him in. "You looked different then... didn't you?" The matter of switching out with Paimon is a concern of its own, but first he has to clarify.

[Ruby just catches the question as a group of chickens run past him with her in tow.]

She's my hen and the star of Days of our Clucks! and she's getting away!

[It feels like there were probably a handful of things she could be doing to catch them but she's much to frantic to think about that right now.]

Duty crouches next to Paimon, to Knowledge, and next to Peter. He's met them both, and seeing Peter worn out, merely a vessel for someone else, feels tantalizingly close to a dangerous place for him. Duty isn't sure how much of Peter Paimon sees and/or understands.

"You should take better care of him," Duty says simply. "Even if this is only ever temporary." Because that was part of their conversation, playing together as a team.

Ange!

[And Ruby doesn't seem to bothered by the shriek or the flustered attitude her girlfriend is putting on. It gets a laugh out of her and she gives Ange one more spin.]

I'll zip us away with my semblance! No one will ever know, I promise.

[ But he's here to help, so he supposes he's caught up in this. He takes off after her, trying to keep up. ]

Which one are we trying to get again-?

"If you want. Impress the other girls with small arms."

He's teasing. All in good humor. It's really nice to just joke around with her - especially after so much has happened. Having a chance to sit back and talk, tease, like normal people?

It's a great change of pace.

"Or Ruby, if she appreciates that kind of thing."
