Atlas was a perfect lesson of that. The longer the fighting dragged on, the poor suffered immensely and became expendable. Allies suffered repeatedly and became enemies. the rich thought they were safe, only to realize they were in a gilded prison. The longer the war lasted, the more everyone on Remnant suffered.
War, protracted, brought only the worst out of people.
