[How is it that Ariadne always ends up in Obi-Wan's memories?

At least she knows it's a memory this time. And at least no one seems to be losing a body part. Although she has her hands clenched to either side, as if ready to leap forward and defend Obi-Wan and the little girl as they roll along the ugly terrain.

Of course, that's not how memories work, is it?

She crouches down in the bed of the truck, watching the little girl.]

You're the sister, aren't you?

[jedies]

[ leia's nose wrinkles as she glances at obi-wan momentarily and back at ariadne. ]

I'm not anyone's sister. I'm just me!

[ obi-wan seems startled, though he masks it quickly. ]

Quite.

[The memory can see her? Well, this is new. And a little startling.

Every time she thinks she's beginning to understand the rules, Ariadne finds herself surprised again.

Of course, it's a little hard to back-peddle from a comment like that.]

Oh, no. "Sister" means something different to my people.

[At least she's good at lying.]

It's an endearment. Like Humans use. Like "sweetie" or "dear one."

[ leia looks deeply skeptical, but seems to let it go. obi-wan looks uneasy, but relieved all the same. he glances at leia for a moment. ]

It's probably an Outer Rim cultural ritual.

[ leia nods slowly, absorbing that. he turns his gaze to ariadne. ]

Are you heading to the space port?

[demonicbeauty]

[More like outer-outer-outer, completely out-of-the-universe rim.

But Ariadne starts to slip into character as easily as slipping into a warm bath.]

Yes. I'm on a very long journey.

[Her eyes flick up to Obi-Wan, desperate for some kind of recognition.]

[jedies]

[ there seems to be a flicker for a moment before it subsides. ]

Where to?

[demonicbeauty]

[Well, this is good and confusing.

She reaches for the first planet name she can remember, from all of her conversations with all of the Jedi.]

Tatooine. I'm going to visit a friend.

[jedies]

[ obi-wan seems to tense. leia doesn't notice as she looks at ariadne. ]

The dusty planet?

[demonicbeauty]

The dusty planet.

[She's pretty sure, anyway. From what Luke's told her about it.]

I've never been to a desert before. I'm a little nervous.

[jedies]

It's not a terrible place.

[ obi-wan sighs. ]

Though it can be a hard life.

Maybe you can give me some advice.

[It's mostly directed to Leia. But her eyes continue to stray back to Obi-Wan.

What is happening?]

[jedies]

[ leia scrunches up her nose in confusion. ]

Advice?

About deserts. I don't know much of anything about them.

Except that you must drink a lot of water.

[She gives the little girl a smile.]

You seem more informed than I am. What else do I need to know?

[jedies]

[ leia shakes her head. ]

I don't really know anything about deserts. What about you, Ben?

[ obi-wan hums. ]

Well, I know it's good to always have some cover. Water. To remain close to the cities rather than to wander far.

[Ben? Isn't that what Ezra once called him?

Where did that come from?]

I'll have to keep that in mind.

Do you want to do a followup?

[jedies]

[ they seem to be reaching a checkpoint and the memory seems to slowly fade. obi-wan seems concerned and leia grasps for his hand. the stormtroopers seem to appear, outside the vehicle. what happens next, no one can say for the memory is just gone and ariadne is back to reality. ]

[Every time she thinks she has it figured out...somehow she's wrong.

Ariadne can only shake her head. And immediately get out her Omni to give Obi-Wan a call.]

Are you there? Were you there?

[jedies]

I . . . thought I felt something.

What happened?

[demonicbeauty]

It was like...being in one of your memories again. Only...you weren't there with me, exactly? You were in the memory and you could see me but...you didn't know me.

[Or mistake her for Padmé, which was a monstrous relief, in retrospect.]

With a little girl.

[jedies]

[ his expression softens. ]

With Leia.

[demonicbeauty]

[She nods slightly.]

She's Luke's sister, isn't she?

[jedies]

Yes. She was raised on Alderaan, but we made a little side venture.

[demonicbeauty]

What happened?

[A pause.]

I mean, you don't have to tell me, if you don't want to. I don't mean to pry into things that are none of my business.

[Except for the fact that she just lived it...]

[jedies]

I imagine it's not a secret anymore.

[ considering her children are running around the place. ]

She was kidnapped. I had to go rescue her.

[She smiles warmly.]
