[ alucard has always functioned better when he works alongside with someone else. he doesn't do too well on his own. ]

A bit much?

[ and she downs the rest of her glass as if he'd just uttered a challenge ]

Is it a contest now?

That glass better be empty by the time I get back! Also, do you want a poptart? [ he'll hear a bottle pop open and then something metal clatters on the counter as she drops the opener. ] I made them myself! [ and then she mumbles under her breath ] Oh, fuck. You probably don't know what poptarts are, huh? [ She's definitely opening the container of homemade poptarts and dropping a bunch on a plate. ]

[ though it's an intriguing name. alucard finishes off the glass with relish, a consumate drinker. not to the same degree of trevor belmont, but who could ever match him in drinking? even a full blooded vampire would have trouble with that. ]

she sets them both down with a careful clatter. she's reached that sweet point in drinking where the brain gets fuzzy and floaty and the colors seem a little brighter (with only the slightest hint of melting when she moves). she bows with exaggeration. ]
Voila! My imitation of poptarts! [ she is very proud of them thank you for noticing ] They're really just filled pastries with icing but it's the closest I've come to my favorite breakfast food. [ she fills both their glasses a little sloppily. sorry. and then gestures to the plate of pastries. ]
There are two kinds: berry filled with a lemon icing and lemon curd filled with a plain icing. I wanted to make chocolate but that stuffs pretty pricey for someone who burned two batches of pastry.

Delightful. And very unhealthy.

So unhealthy. [ she agrees, mouth a little full, but even in her haze she realizes that and covers her mouth with her hand before she speaks. ] But they're so much more healthy than the ones you could buy back home. No artificial colors or flavors and I bet there's less sugar, too.
Kids eat things like this for breakfast all the time where I'm from.

[ he doesn't know many people who have had such easy childhoods. certainly not in wallachia. ]

[ there's a touch of longing in her voice, gaze distant. ] It can be an easy life if you're lucky.

Those failings are not ours.

I had a childhood. At the very least, I can say that. I have known others who had none.
[ suzu, taka . . . trevor belmont. ]

Personally, I think having parents that love you is lucky. No matter how it ends up, there was someone in your corner fighting for you.

[ though parents can love and still inflict great harm. alucard still bears the scar of his father's love turned to violence. ]
