[ Kylo shrugs. ]

She was kind, helped me with a problem I was having with a doll stalking me. Witty. I wanted to get to know her more, but I didn't tell her who I was because I -- [ wanted at least one family member who wasn't disappointed upon first meeting? Kylo waves the rest of that sentence off.

He glances up sharply at Anakin. ]

Why do you ask.

Sometimes people hear the call of the ocean. It's a pull you can't ignore.

I wasn't there to stop her.

[ Kylo listens, brow furrowed. He opens his mouth to ask what that means, but realization is slow and dawning. It's the way that they arrive, so that means... it's how they leave too. His mouth snaps shut as the truth washes over him. ]

Oh.

[ ... ]

So she's not here anymore, then.

[facultative]

[He doesn't respond, to speak it would be to make it real. Regrets litter his mind, they had such precious few moments left together and he had squandered them.]

I thought you would want to know.

[He clasps his hands together under the long sleeves of his robes.]

I never told her what would happen, but she... you both deserved more.

I appreciate you telling me. [ A flurry of emotions surge into his chest, and he doesn't do well with that; were he alone he'd likely take his saber to the furniture or the walls until he was only blissfully numb to it. Instead Kylo stands still and frozen, swallowing the lump in his throat.

How long had he longed for acknowledgement from his grandfather and found only silence? And now that he has it, at the cost of her? ]

I didn't tell her either. Who I was. Any of it.

[ And well, he's not sure anyone else would agree with Anakin on that last point, including himself - so he remains silent. ]

[Now that he's said his piece he wants to find an excuse to linger even though it would probably be best to let him process the news alone. Whether this was an inherited trait or not, neither of them processed things well and he recognises the same signs.]

If you want to know anything about her or... or everything else you can ask.

[Kylo had no way of knowing the enormity of what Anakin was offering, but it was important to him to get it out there. That and he'd always go for the option that might get him what he wanted.]

[ He remains frozen in place a moment longer, uncertain. Part of him would like to find that moment alone to think, to rage, to let Anakin go and do just that. And maybe were it anybody else standing there right now, offering up to talk, he might've done it.

But it's not. He pushes aside the books on the seating area to give Anakin room to sit down if he'd like but doesn't move to follow, himself. ]

You knew her better than anyone else, what kind of person was she? Truly, what was she like.

[Anakin takes the offered seat, but considers standing up again when it becomes clear his grandson would not be joining him. However he finds that too awkward even for him and remains seated.]

I met her when I was nine. She stood out to me even then.

[He clears his throat and leans forward.]

She was kind, she was already a Queen by then and she still took the time to listen to a little boy's ramblings. She had a way of making you feel like you were the only other person in the galaxy.

[ It is entirely perhaps, all too obvious how unused Kylo is to anyone simply stopping by for a chat or having company that wasn't a general to relay information or orders to him before departing. He hasn't even offered him any kind of drink.

But that's not what's on his mind as he listens to Anakin speak, expression guarded but interested. He tries to picture such an image of a young boy and a Queen. Despite growing up with a mother who was a politician, his view of them wasn't exactly the best, but still. And having witnessed her kindness. even however briefly... He hangs onto the words and the picture they create. ]

[Anakin has a tendency when talking about others to describe what they do for him. How they made him feel, the things they did together. All in all, something innocuous to most people, but added with the knowledge of what happens it's a little more ominous.]

The war made it difficult for us to see each other as much as we would have liked it, but she never gave up hope that things could end peacefully. I didn't have her conviction, I wished she wouldn't put herself at risk just for the opportunity to attempt diplomacy.
