And the fact that you've learned about Jason and myself, despite the fact I have not told anyone makes me wonder if you reacted poorly to said information.

So I'll ask now. What happened with Jason?

[He isn't wrong to make that assumption, but it still stings. Anakin's never going to be given the benefit of the doubt.]

He's not dead.

And I'm not impressed. Either you behave like a child or an adult, you can't have it both ways. You want to be coddled but you also expect to be respected as an adult, and yet you can't extend that courtesy to anyone else.

I am not deliberately keeping things from you, but I'm also not convinced when you lash out.

I said that because that's what you expect from me, isn't it? An out of control monster that needs to be kept on a leash.

I didn't try to kill him, it never even crossed my mind. I did want to hurt him, but I changed my mind.

[But it'll never be enough.]

So at least do me the courtesy of not lying to me.

[ obi-wan sighs for a moment. ]

You have a valid point about time spent together and you're not wrong. But using him as an inquisition into my personal life is something you have no right to.

[He wants to break something and it would be so easy to make it the bond between them. He could hurl hurtful words, rage and scream. It'd feel satisfying in the moment, he knows well the catharsis it would bring. But it wouldn't last.

So instead he tamps down his anger, buries it deep. The hurt remains, but there's little he could do about that.]

Go then. You're not obligated to spend time with me so you might as well spend it with him instead.

Yes, I'm not.

[ it may seem overly harsh and in a way, it is. obi-wan knows that anakin will construe it badly. but obi-wan has spent years over this, going over this multiple times. he's too old to keep belaboring the point that obi-wan has chosen anakin.

at this moment, though, his patience is at an end. ]

Perhaps you should consider that when you treat people poorly.

[Obi-Wan's words are a blunt reminder that this is a man that knows what its like to press his blade into Anakin's limbs. That he's also had years to come to terms with Anakin's actions and still choose to reach out doesn't yet cross his mind.]

I could say the same to you. I'm not here to be a memory of your past.

I'm a person too.

[ utterly astounding. obi-wan just shakes his head as he leaves. he's fifty years too old for this now. ]

[Anakin doesn't move until he's gone and only then does he burst into tears.

He's already moved ten years past him and no amount of choosing would change that.]
