Content Warnings: Semi-irresponsible weapon usage.

Sometime around the beginning of October invitations would have started to be sent out to the various people in Trench Ange and Ruby know - announcing the two girls' wedding at the end of the month.

When the day itself comes, people will find the location - the newly rebuilt Clockhouse, which some of the invitees may have helped rebuild in the first place - tastefully decorated. Some of the house's stranger features have been covered up by decorations in red and gold, mostly taking on the shapes of roses and butterflies all over the place.

[Ruby has to admit that she's a little surprised that Beatrice decided to come and join in on the celebration. After the things Ange has told her about the witches from her world. But- Maybe it was a good sign that they could come together like this.]

Thank you. I hope- I hope this is a chance for us all to bury the hatchet and find a way to be a big relatively happy family.

[Ruby gives a little grin.]

You just really have to squint and focus on how big of a jerk Mother Mercy is, then you'll get it every time.

[She's sort of exaggerating but then she feels herself pulled into the hug and while she gives a little squeak like a rubber ducky, she's quick to return the gesture.]

Hello, everyone. [ As Ruby's Best Girl, she ascends the stage dressed in gold and red to give a little speech of her own. Fortunately, there are no storm clouds over her head. She's been doing her utmost best to keep her irritations (and thus accidental magic mishaps) truly at bay for the sake of Ruby and Ange's big day. However, nothing is going to prepare people for Luna Lovegood giving a speech. ]

There have been some very interesting clouds in the sky, I think it might rain. It's a good thing we're all inside, though. ... I'm going to give a speech now, as apparently that's what you do at weddings when you're the Best Girl. It's very nice that I should be asked to do something like that.

[ She will wave to Ruby cheerfully, wherever she might currently be. ]

Ruby is one of my oldest friends, which is roughly almost three years now. And I suppose that doesn't sound like a lot but in the context of living in a Dream world and now here, when people can disappear at any given moment— [ Is this awkward, it's probably very awkward. Luna is sincerely solemn for a moment, staring off into space in the silence before she continues. ] ... Actually the first time I met Ruby was on board the Titanic and I was a little drunk, dancing on the tables and fell off. She ended up catching me. It was actually a very funny way to meet someone.

... And she was still a very good friend to me, even when I later tried to kill her with a ceremonial mallet... but I suppose in the grand scheme of things, friends do have their fights sometimes don't they?

[ There's a pause as she looks over at Peter with a frown of concern, unbeknownst to everyone else, the mention of 'ceremonial mallet' has definitely triggered a reaction in him. He might be smiling, but over their mental connection there's strange sounds of distress from him. ]

Oh, no. It's alright, Peter. [ And now most of the attention will be on him for a moment before Luna rallies it back to her. Sorry, Peter.

Most of the first part of the speech will continue like that, Luna recounting moments of their friendship over the last few years. Like how Luna once threw up on the rug at Ruby's when she tried a mending charm, and how Ruby was very nice about it. She's incredibly sincere and heartfelt with her words, although it's clear none of this was rehearsed since she keeps on slipping into short silences and looking about the audience with a faint smile before she recounts the next story of hers and Ruby's friendship, or running off into tangents completely. And no, it's not any different when she gets onto Ange. ]

I didn't really meet Ange until we ended up in Trench, but she's also very nice and is a very good friend of mine too. It's always good to meet other witches, and especially when they're nice witches. [ Listen, she has had some pretty bad experiences with bad witches. The people in the know will know. ]

Ange has helped me a lot with magic things, especially particular specialist areas. [ She waves at Ange before adding: ] You know who I'm talking about Ange, yes—?

[ It's Paimon. Paimon is the one she's talking about. There is a thumbs up and wide, beaming smile. ]

I trust Ange very much, not only as a fellow witch but as a friend. She's helped me so many times with things, and I always think she gives the best advice. She's always there to talk about... the heavy things, the difficult things. [ Yes, she is just going to completely embarrass poor Ange with all the Very Heartfelt Appreciation she has for Ange. The times Ange has helped her, and how much she is thankful to know Ange. It's possible she's going to set a few people off with tears, even Luna's voice is quivering a little bit... until she goes onto a tangent to politely remind Ange they still need to do the date with the Slushie Roulette (sorry Ange, now Ruby knows about it). ]

... So, I suppose in the end: I am very pleased that two of my very good friends, who are lovely people and excellent friends to me, found one another and love one another. And I wish them all the good luck and happiness in their life here together. ... And that's it, really.

[ And then she's... just going to skip off stage without another word. ]

[ Luna might be here as Ruby's Best Girl, but she's very much supporting both girls in her choice of outfit. It's very apt that gold is one of the theme colours, considering Luna believes that wearing sun colours to a wedding is said to bring good luck. She's wearing a dress of gold, covered in delicate flower pattern. Her shoes, however, are very much a nod to Ruby, as are most of her accessories. There's a red ribbon choker around her neck, adorned with a golden sunflower, for luck. There are more, identical sunflower hang from her ears, and a couple are pinned into her hair, she even wears one as a ring — jewellry she's made herself for the occasion. The sunflowers themselves were conjured by Paimon, one of the few times Luna's asked the demon for the 'riches and treasures' he's able to grant her as his Witch.

She's behind some of the decor, she's worked hard to make sure things were perfect for Ruby and Ange. Namely, the little red and gold sparkles and petals that rain from the ceiling overhead, before dissolving into thin air before they hit the floor. For the most part, she is just making sure things are running smoothly. Even with her frustration and gloom kept under control (there's not a single raincloud above her head to be seen today), she still has the stubbornness to ensure things are going to plan. That people are happy, that the charms are behaving themselves.

However, she will definitely be found wandering about the food eyeing up the desserts. Or she might be persuaded to throw a few axes, albeit she'll be throwing them by enchanting them into the air and hurling them towards the dummies of Mother Mercy with gusto, considering she's not very good at hurling them herself. Is that cheating? It might be cheating. And of course, she is absolutely delighted by the photobooth. She that once in Deerington and she will be very excited to do it again, pulling someone towards it with a beaming smile. ]

Oh, hey!

[Oscar looked up from the snack plate he was trying not to hide behind and beamed up at the towering redhead. For an instant he was reminded of Jaune-- both in the brilliant smile and the sheer solid presence of the young man. They had spoken on the network once, but the hair alone was an excellent tell of--]

You're Battler, right?

[He chuckled, feeling a tad strange by the notion had brought to a couple of near strangers.]

I guess the girls getting married makes us brothers now, huh?

[technically sansa is here as a tailor, her elaborate chatelaine clipped to a repurposed gold obi from the tanabata festival strapped around her waist. her outer robe, in fact, hides pockets of beads and skeins of threads belonging to various brides' and bridesmaids' dresses; she hovers near them attempting to look discreet and helpful, though her face is painted with gold flowers outlined in a plummy red to match her dress. her braids are pinned back into a small bun like her mother had worn.

she smiles nervously at the red and gold decorations and tries to admire the roses. 'the rains of castamere' remains unfortunately stuck in her head.]

( It's probably no surprise that Peter "Riddled with Demons and Anxiety" Graham won't be standing in front of an audience to make a speech, but he's certainly going to leave a little message for his friends on their special day. )

Ange and Ruby,
You're two of the best friends I've ever had, and it's surreal to think how far we've all come together. I'm going to make it real sappy and tell you both that I definitely wouldn't be where I am if it wasn't for you two having my back all this time. Know that I've got yours, too.

[Ruby on the other hand would be absolutely thrilled to have a Pthumerian or giant monster attempt to crash that party. It would be like the perfect ending to a perfect day. ...But she would really hope that they'd wait until after the ceremony to do something like that. Because no monster fight or crazy shenanigan could compete with the girl walking down the aisle to meet her now, Ange had been with her through thick and thin for years now. Nothing made Ruby happier than the idea of solidifying their bond once again.

She sees Ange's dress approach her nose and hears the little whisper. She doesn't laugh, but she lets a little grunt as she continues her pushups.]

Just a couple more- Just so I can look ripped-

[Okay. There's the joke as she quickly jumps back up to her feet and dusts off her ruby red suit. She then takes a moment to look over Ange and she feels a dorky little smile play up on her lips.]

Uh... You're looking good by the way. Uh- great actually.

[if sansa looks more than the usual amount of alarmed at the axe-throwing, it passes quickly. she has a plate piled high with sweets, and flashes ange a smile.]

It was a beautiful ceremony.

[she manages to say this with the correct amount of irony and sweeps gracefully into a chair next to ange.]

I've never been to a wedding where the tourney takes place during the banquet before.

[probably bringing up weddings she has and hasn't been to before is a bad idea. she offers ange her plate of sweets before taking one.]

Do all 'party games' involve throwing things at targets?

[sansa arrived during the moss king's festival and she has noticed some trends.]

If you're late to your own wedding, I think she might make an exception to that rule.

Do I need to carry you?

[ Once upon a time, Anna would have had to drag her to an event like this, but Kainé's come a long way recently, and it doesn't hurt that she has a soft spot for the girl that made her a new sword last month. So she attends the party in reasonably good spirits, which is to say, she only wallflowers a little bit, sitting in the corner with tea and flipping through the assorted books.

She's dressed in an elegant little black cocktail dress that shows off more leg and chest than is reasonable, and while she isn't lurking in the quiet corner, she takes to the axe throwing with gusto, laughing maniacally as she lands one toss after another. It's a good way of making sure nobody notices how much emotion showed on her face during the ceremony.

Or you might just spot her piling on a frankly alarming amount of food onto her plate at the snack table! She's not starting many conversations, but she won't turn anybody away either. ]

[ There's something to be said for how Ange's expression doesn't falter, even now. Not even when Beatrice turns on her usual witch mode. Ange just still sits there calmly sipping her tea.

Though, to be fair, this has become rather normal for her at this point. ]

Well, now I'm a witch, I've decided that I've lived for a million years.

[ It doesn't even sound like she's putting down Beatrice's backstory. Really, that's all fine to her.

No, this is just the typical sibling move. After all, they are siblings now, right? And what do siblings love to do more than make up larger numbers in petty ways in front of each other?

So I guess I'm still older.

Well..

[ Ange's voice trails off. For a moment, anyway, and then she just sighs and shakes her head a little. She guesses she can't deny that she looked worried. Especially if even Scorpia picked up on it. ]

.. I just have a lot to think about right now. [ Not a lie, even though she's still being a little vague. Spilling all of her emotions out has always been hard for Ange, after all, especially during the times when it makes her feel particularly vulnerable.

It's why she pauses again, and then instead adds: ]

A.. koala, though?

[ Of all things, Scorpia?! ]

.. I hope we won't have to. [ Go their separate ways again, that is.

Even though Ange knows it's a very real possibility. She lost Battler back home, and just when she thought she might get him back, she lost that chance again. And then he appeared here in Trench, only to disappear back into the sea so quickly..

The chance that the Battler standing in front of her right now will leave her is very tangible.

But Ange doesn't want to think about that too hard. She doesn't want to think about the pain of potential loss as she allows him to take her hands, as she still looks up at him from where she's sitting, her big gown spread all around her. ]

But, if we ever do.. I'll try to be strong this time around. [ She swallows, and her eyes look a little glossy. ] I'm not alone anymore now.

[ Ange slowly exhales when he says those words. They feel almost foreign in their lightness, even though they're at the same time so familiar that the girl can almost predict what he's about to say a split second before each word leaves his mouth.

But it's the occasion that makes them feel strange all the same. Today doesn't feel like a normal day, even if Break is acting very normal right now. ]

Are there a lot of people out there?

[ Of course she does grab onto his hands the moment he offers them like that.

It also means that he'll instantly be able to feel that Ange's own hands are trembling lightly. But she holds onto his hands all the same. Like she either doesn't mind giving that fact away to him, or she just has to hold on to him like a life raft for a few moments here. ]

.. what is it all looking like?

[Break hums a little snatch of a song as he puts his words together -- Tale As Old As Time, incidentally -- and squeezes her hands, reassuring.]

It's a pleasing showing. Certainly nowhere near as large as many of the high society gatherings I've seen, but I doubt there will be many snacks left over for Miss Ruby and I to demolish, late tonight. There are faces I've not met yet, but, mm -- no one who doesn't look familiar to me.

[If he hasn't seen them around the town over the past year, he's seen them on the network, for the most part. You can't always tell who's a Sleeper and who's not, but there's often a certain something that sets them apart from the Trenchies.]

It reminds me of...in the movies, sometimes, when a house is decorated for the winter holidays. It's still the same house, you know? But all shining red and glimmering gold, warm and inviting. Blankets of roses and plenty of butterflies, and nary a bum to be seen.

[And this, then, is what Xerxes Break is truly here for -- perhaps even what only he can do, given all they've found in common with one another since they've met. Even with multiple worlds and a solid century of time in between them, many things are not so different at all. So, Break is the one who understands how to tell her that this is nothing at all like the parties full of strange and scheming rich people she learned to dread as a little girl with a nasty aunt with unreasonable standards; she's among friends today, loved ones who won't expect her to play the role of a society girl or make banal small talk and who have already accepted Ange just as she is. He's the one who knows to remind her that she's doing this in a place many of the guests came together to build explicitly to right one of the many wrongs of her life, in a world that she has chosen to be in. This isn't some magnificent, heartless venue that will be reduced to nothing but architectural bones once the decorations are stripped away, waiting to host the next random shindig. When Ange and Ruby "go home" tonight, it will be a matter of climbing the stairs to the same bed they lay their head on every night, and the next celebration held here will be just as intimate and involve many of the same faces.

Soon you'll be home with me, once upon a December.]

[Scorpia nods, firmly adhering to her call.]

Of course. You're small and adorable. I feel like you have a bit of that koala energy going on!

[She punctuates that with a smile. But she's not done talking yet.]

But I guess even precious koala people can have a lot to think about sometimes. Especially on a day like this. Today's the big idea! You know, you can lay any of those thoughts here for ol' Scorpia to sort through.

[It's hard to believe it's been almost two years since they met, so much has happened in such a short amount of time. Of course Willow is certain Ange is probably a bundle of nerves on her big day - who wouldn't be? She's done what she can to help with the preparations, wherever she's been needed, and now, so close to the start of the ceremony, she still wants to check in on the happy couple.

She knocks softly at the doorframe to catch Ange's attention as she enters, and she can't help but smile.]

You look amazing, Ange. How are you feeling? All set?

[It's unlikely you'll catch Willow throwing axes. She's too worried about someone getting hurt (it's not the kind of wedding memory she wants Ange and Ruby to leave tonight with), but she could potentially be talked into trying it out. She will still hang around and watch, though.

More likely, you'll find her sitting and relaxing at the tea party, or the food tables. She can even be talked into the photobooth fairly easily as well.]

Yep! And you're Oscar.

[ He settles in with Oscar without a second thought, apparently pretty at ease and very friendly. ]

Guess so. Always wanted a brother... although I'm pretty happy with the sister I have. Nice to meet you in person, finally.

You're not. And I'm glad to see you find someone that makes you so happy.

[ He smiles, still trying not to cry. This is an emotional moment for him. For them both. It's hard for him to say that he'll never leave her ever again, because he already has at least once. He and the rest of her family. But he's here now, for... how long he doesn't know. Hopefully a while yet. But they can't be sure of that. ]

I hope you and Ruby have a long, long life together and that you'll always make one another smile.

[ Another laugh. ]

[she really doesn't want to take any sort of credit for anything that ruby has ended up doing with her life. she's just happy that rubes is here, and implying that the only thing that's made ruby want to marry ange is hopefully absurd enough to read as a joke.]

But I think I'm done throwing metaphorical axes at metaphorical gods. I just wanted to chuck that thing so I looked cool. Where'd you even get this many axes? Did you make them? [she asks something else with just a little dread.] Do they have guns in them?

She agreed to work for the Witch, Bernkastel, in exchange for being allowed to come to the cat box where Battler and I were playing out our little game. She would join Battler in opposing me and attempting to deny witches.

She had a single condition laid on her, that if she were to reveal who she was to him she'd be torn apart into tiny, tiny little pieces. Battler was despondent--he thought he had lost and didn't know which way to turn. To encourage him, she revealed herself.

[ Beatrice says this without relish. It had been a hard thing to watch, and she couldn't deny that she felt sympathy for Battler and Ange at that moment, even if they were opponents. ]

So she suffered the consequences. What happened to her after that, I can't say exactly. I didn't see her again until I arrived here.

I have no objections to such an arrangement myself!

[ Kihihi. She laughs and fans herself, almost as if she's putting on airs. ]

I adore Battler, he adores Ange. So I will care for her as well, in my own way.

[ It's only a little witch mode. As a treat. Beatrice sips her tea again and gives a faint scoff at Ange's reasoning. ]

Oh, you are not. Look, we'll ask Battler. He can decide, right? Entirely unbiased and we can both agree that he's a good judge.

[ A pause. ]

Even if I know he'll side with me.

[ SMUG. ]
