(mostly open) oh this love would kill me
Who: Ange, Ruby, and you!
What: Ruby and Ange's wedding, and all their CR is invited!
When: Late October
Where: The rebuilt Clockhouse
Content Warnings: Semi-irresponsible weapon usage.

Sometime around the beginning of October invitations would have started to be sent out to the various people in Trench Ange and Ruby know - announcing the two girls' wedding at the end of the month.
When the day itself comes, people will find the location - the newly rebuilt Clockhouse, which some of the invitees may have helped rebuild in the first place - tastefully decorated. Some of the house's stranger features have been covered up by decorations in red and gold, mostly taking on the shapes of roses and butterflies all over the place.

[Eat a butt, Mother Superior.]
[Speaking of butts, it's kind of fascinating to watch this Not-Really-A-Dog go through a pumpkin like it's a chew toy. Is pumpkin okay for dogs? It is for cats, he knows that much. Do those rules apply to Omens?]
No, you're fine. I just don't... usually have conversations just with peoples' omens. It's new.

Baltus is much more polite than Mother Superior. :) ]
Perhaps I am very independent, as omens go. I am never too far from Xerxes, but it suits him to have another pair of eyes looking after things. So, I am always out, and I wander as I please.
Often, I watch after Ange, for I do not need to sleep as he does but I do not have thumbs for making tea and sweets. So you see, we each have important jobs to do.

You might be. Mine doesn't even really speak with me. [They just sort of have an understanding. To the point of not needing words.] Or go too far when she wants to be out.
[He frowns a bit.] Does she need a lot of looking out for?

[The long snoot emerges from the pumpkin so that the omen can look very pleased with himself over this praise. His tail thumps the floor a few times. Even so, his next answer is solemn.]
Ange has many reasons to be sad. [Baltus will not spill all of her business, any more than he'd spill anyone else's. But this man stood up and made a Grand Speech about Ange and Ruby, and so he thinks it is safe to assume that Shiro knows what they are both like.] On such occasions, and sometimes also when she is happy, it is pleasing to her to have me at her side. I belong to Xerxes, who took her down the aisle on his arm today, as their loneliness is very similar and so he is her uncle now. But even he is person-shaped, and people are tiresome creatures.
Because my form is that of a cute dog, I am well-suited to pats and playing and silence, and she need not worry about being more than 'Ange' for me.

[That's kind of funny to hear. And the sudden dog-like look is cute. It's really hard not to scratch the omen behind the ears.]
[Ange has many reasons to be sad]
[His amusement fades into something more solemn too. He knows that, doesn't he. They don't delve too much into one anothers' histories, and by now, he's pretty sure it's a mutual decision. He knows about her family. She knows about his abduction. Anything else will come when it comes.]
I understand. [He's very quiet when he says it. Looking across the room for a moment, to see if he can spy Ruby anywhere. Someone else he hopes Ange can just be herself for. Especially now.] I'd like to think one day I can be that for her too, as a friend.

To wish to be at her side is the first step in helping her heal.
[Ange's swift bond with Xerxes comes from the discovery that their pain is weirdly, specifically mutual -- he, too, lost his whole family while his back was turned in the span of a day, and knows what it is to be set adrift as one of the only survivors of such an abrupt massacre. He also knows what it's like to find oneself suddenly wrapped up in the supernatural in a desperate attempt to restore what was lost. The difference is that Ange was alone for years and years before she arrived in Deerington, and Xerxes had the sheer dumb luck of falling into the arms of the one family involved in his world's greater story that would treat him as a beloved treasure despite his sins.
Baltus knows what Xerxes knows. And what Xerxes knows is that he has been healing nearly as long as Ange has been alive, and she is only just beginning her journey on a very long road. He'll help to pave the way for her, but as Ange finally blossoms into a young woman capable of taking steps forward and away from the past she's been shackled to so long, there is absolutely no way it will be by his efforts alone. She needs Ruby, too, and all the other friends who've come out today to celebrate her happiness, and Shiro.]
Please do not underestimate the difference that you make simply by reaching out.

[Shiro's silent for a while. Looking out over the party.]
I'm trying. [He says, quietly.] But I think we all are. To see the good we can do for people, I mean.

This is just plain manipulation on Baltus's part. He is made of blood and shadows and does not suffer from itches any more than he needs to eat or sleep. However, at times like this, it is good to put people at ease by being nothing more than a silly doggy with silly noodle problems. Nope, no sensitive subject matter going on here.]
Trench is not so terrible a place in that regard, I think. It is a cruel place, and takes many things away. But, it also provides many Sleepers with new opportunities to understand just what they have to give.
[The pumpkin crunches in a satisfying way under his teeth, and Baltus thumps his tail about it a couple of times.]
You might like to speak with Xerxes about such things sometime. It pleases him to make the acquaintance of others who care for those he loves, and he has turned forty-one of late, which is more like one hundred and twenty eight in Xerxes years. Being so old, sometimes if you poke him just so, helpful philosophies fall out.
no subject
You think? [It's a hypothetical question, really. Not something he expects an answer to, since the Omen just voiced his opinion there.] I don't know, sometimes. We always thought the Waking World was going to be better. Easier, somehow.
[And not as painful.]
I mean, I could talk to him... Wait - how does forty-one equal one hundred and twenty eight?
no subject
He has been chasing rambunctious adolescents around in the hopes that they will not get killed while being heroic for some time, and now, deep in his soul, he is Very Tired.
[By this logic Shiro is probably at least ninety in Shiro years.]
