Just the slow disaster that was her life. (Book Club)

This month, the book club meets Tuesdays November 15th and 29th. It is reading Finna by Nino Cipri, available via written or audio formats.

When an elderly customer at a Swedish big box furniture store -- but not that one -- slips through a portal to another dimension, it's up to two minimum-wage employees to track her across the multiverse and protect their company's bottom line. Multi-dimensional swashbuckling would be hard enough, but those two unfortunate souls broke up a week ago.

What would you do for ~~a klondike bar~~ money (capitalism)? Risk your life? Travel to another dimension? Work with your ex? What's the same across universes and what's different that no one else seems to notice? What's harder to navigate—interdimensional big box stores or The Tower is weakening and soon shall fall!Trench?

This month, the silent disco happens Fridays November 4th and 18th. Headphones and music are available. Play your own music or listen to DJ's mix. (open)

The music is psychadelic themed this month. The first night is a collection of 1960's music like Jimi Hendrix and the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band era of the Beatles. The second heads further toward funk with Marvin Gaye and other Motown hits.

This month, The Entertainment Feed shows double features every Sunday and Thursday featuring the first sixteen James Bond movies this year, covering Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, and Timothy Dalton.

Murderbot has started filming events in Trench via its drones.

Perhaps a drone sees you acting weirdly. Perhaps one accompanies you on a domestic or far ranging mushroom hunt. Perhaps it films your trippy time trying to get from A to B in Trench this month. Contribute to the video collection of lore for Trench! (ICly can be arranged, or OOCly)

Weird architecture. Capitalism. Client retrieval. It's entirely different but feels the same. Like a case of deja vu even though Murderbot know it doesn't know what company LitenVärld is supposed to be. It's seen two hundred. It's been the disaffected employee. It's been the one to find a new life elsewhere. It's been the one missing familiar elements even when they're bad.

One big thing stands out about Trench, away from all that. "It's odd, for me, to live in a place without currency," Murderbot says. Preservation mostly functioned by a complicated barter system, but Pin-Lee still negotiated contracts with hard currency cards for it, even then. It didn't have to go all in on the lack of currency, not like Trench. It will not sell its blood.

I bet you're wonderin' how I knew

Each month it spends less and less time in front of everyone. It knows the song set in advance. This month, it is only there at the start. One drone projects the set list on one wall, the current song color coded. Another projects the lyrics on the front wall, should anyone want to sing along. After all, everyone has headphones, right?

Murderbot stands near the back, moving a little bit to the music, but the hum from headphones is just for show. It hears it internally, and it listens as people enter and exit, in case anything is wrong.

Oh, I travel – A sort of licensed troubleshooter

The films are formulaic but fun, the kind of thing that real security work—it would defer to ART for spywork—but it wishes something like this, some rescue mission, could help the Tower. Mushrooms are well and good, but the Tower is still wonky. It is still wonky. It will take more than a watch to get out of—

Murderbot looks down at a watch that is off, melting and strange, in its hand. It sighs. This again. Somehow it's still working, tick tick ticking away despite the uneven distribution of numbers.
