[ katherine takes a moment to try and hone in her hearing, but all she can hear is the thumping of his heart and the sounds of birds jumping delicately along tree branches and the tops of fences.

no matter how hard she tries, she can't hear a thing. but that, of course, won't stop her from trying. ]

Where does it sound like it's coming from?

[prescind]

From somewhere outside. But when I go outside, I can't pick up exactly where it's coming from.

( it was just...all around him. )

There's no source I can pinpoint.

[manipulative]

[ she twists her lips as she considers. while she's old and has experienced many, many things in her lifetime... well, hearing a voice no one else can is something she's only ever been an audience member for.

twisting her hands together, she looks over his shoulder. ]

Why don't we go outside?

[prescind]

( he opens his mouth and then sighs before nodding. )

Yeah, okay.

( he doesn't know why but he's not going to avoid it. )

Let's go outside.

[manipulative]

[ she walks over to him and gently elbows him. ]

You might find that the voices go away when I'm around. I tend to have that effect.

[ although she may smile, katherine is very aware—and is not at all delusional like some people from their home can be—that the voices will come regardless. but she wants to see a smile on that square-shaped head. ]

I love the optimism.

( and hell. he hopes she's right. he reaches to take her hand and sighs. )

Come on, let's see if you've got the magic touch.

[manipulative]

[ katherine makes a point of wiggling her hand in his, trying to get his palm. all she wants is for him to laugh, even if it's a weak kind of thing.

and that's why she tugs on his hand really hard, too, as she pulls him toward the back door. ]

Don't trip.

[ she is definitely going to pull him (and perhaps his arm out of its socket) over the threshold after she opens the door. ]

Don't trip you say while you try and make me trip.

( he fumbles a bit, laughing under his breath as he does. )

Are you trying to make me break my neck? I know I'll recover but damn.

[manipulative]

I just want you to scrape your knees a little.

[ katherine shrugs innocently. to her credit, she does innocently extend her leg to try and trip him. ]

Make you all needy for me to take care of you.

[ is that so wrong? ]

I don't know, you tend to freak out when you have to take care of me.

( because if he's having to be attended to, something is really wrong. )

You're very high strung.

[manipulative]

[ instantly frowning, she scoffs loudly. katherine gives him a mighty shove. ]

I am not!

[prescind]

You are!

( stefan stumbles but laughs a little because he knows he hit a nerve. )

Do you remember how worried you were when I got shot?

[manipulative]

[ she scoffs, rolling her eyes. ]

You got shot, Stefan. Was I supposed to laugh and go shop for shoes and let you bleed out on the very nice floor? It'd be an insult to the wood.

[ not to him, obviously. he was stupid enough to get shot! ]

I was very calm when the building fell on you.

( ha. )

[manipulative]

Bullshit.

[ katherine begins to flail her arms around in an imitation of stefan before pitching her voice high and speaking frantically, ] You were all "Oh no, Katherine! Where are you, love of my life and reason for living? If only I hadn't been so rude about your shoes!"

[ ftr, she does appreciate how worried he was. ]

Okay, I will give you the fact that I was worried but I didn't say anything that dramatic.

( come on, he wasn't a wilting flower. )

And maybe I did say something about shoes.

[manipulative]

[ stopping in their backyard, katherine crosses her arms against her chest and turns to face him fully. she juts out her hip and cocks her brow and dares him without even speaking to repeat all of that with a straight face.

and if he did, he'd be a liar. and a surprisingly good actor for once. ]

You were dramatic.

[prescind]

Can you blame me?

( that had been pretty terrifying. )

You were just as dramatic when I got shot. And when I turned into a human.

[manipulative]

No.

[ katherine purses her lips and shakes her head. no, she's not having him rewrite history or forget very important details. ]

You were practically human when you got shot. You weren't healing. That is a big difference, Stefan. Anyone with half a brain cell would've reacted as I had.

[ if he ever gets shot again, it'll be because she shot him for being a pain in the ass! ]

Sure.

( he smiles knowingly at her before he shakes his head. )

You wouldn't worry or anything if I got shot right now without being human.

[manipulative]

No.

[ katherine doesn't hesitate, but she does extend the one syllable out as though it has three. she narrows her eyes in annoyance, clearly not cool with the idea of this immortal idiot being shot again. ]

Don't go and get yourself shot to prove some stupid point. You know what will happen if you do.

[ she will kill him dead. ]

I wasn't planning on it.

( he really doesn't want to get himself shot. it still hurts even if he's not a human. )

You think I'm that dumb?

[manipulative]

Is that a serious question?

[ she narrows her eyes as she asks it, although she does curve the corner of her lips upward in amusement. ]

Because your hero hair begs to differ.

[ heroes are, after all, super dumb. ]

[prescind]

My hair tells you that I'm dumb?

( he doesn't think that's true. there's no way that's true. )

How do you figure?

[manipulative]

It's hero hair.

[ she knows that's not the first time he's heard that descriptor used for his fluffy hair. it certainly won't be the last time. katherine shifts her gaze up and smiles. it's such nice hero hair. ]

Having hero hair automatically means all your decisions are less than intelligent.
