he decides maybe to steer this to a more acceptable form of explosives.] Well, there are fireworks. People use them quite often for parties here, I've made a few myself for such matters.

And gotten quite good at it. [yes, he thinks jinx is probably way above him here but he can be a competitive little shit too, as a treat.]

Fireworks? Ppfffbbbtt! — That's SO kid stuff!! And lemme guess, are your fireworks lil' pops or somethin'?

( because what would a scientist know about making real enormous fireworks? something that will make such a big blast it'll make everyone's ears ring? )

Oh they were at first. I made sparklers and cherry bombs for a party and people thought it was magic instead of the most basic of chemical reactions.

[to be fair many people here are very behind in their tech but still. many were not.]

I have upgraded considerably since then. Though your standards for explosions may be high.

( it seems there is a role reversal happening here. suddenly, viktor is now the student and she is the teacher. and how scary that might be if jinx did become a teacher of anything? )

If we're going to the shore anyway I suppose that's as good a place as any to set some off.

[beach party, only two engineering nerds. professor jinx critiquing exploding techniques is horrifying and hilarious.]

Yeah, yeah!! Oh! — I'll bring some of my figurines, too...! Ya know, the ones I'm gonna sell from my workshop. You'll be the first viewer of my creations.

( a beat. )

It's only fair seein' you were the only one who was able to disarm my Chomper. For that, you get a lil' reward.

[the bomb had a name. that's... very jinx, from what little he knows of her. it might be kind of endearing if it weren't for certain troubling factors. it still kind of is despite himself.]

I am curious, I'll admit. Perhaps I'll bring a prototype of the bloodgem tech I mentioned. [including that one that might help her when her emotions spike, in case she did want it.] I'd like to see what you make of it.

Yeah, totally! Bring it over. I'll even keep my hands to myself and not take it from you.

( because let's be honest, if it's something worth interesting and useful, she would steal it for herself. although, it's too bad the city of trench isn't rather large. it'd be pretty easy to track her down and fight for it back. )

How kind. [dry. yeah, better not bring anything he doesn't want to lose, huh.] When are you free?

[however that is settled will find him going to the place in question. on the shore he forgoes his cane to lean against rio, who is much better suited for walking through sand and generally enjoys being at the ocean. it's been a while and she's eager to run but plays nice for now, helping viktor move along.]

You'll be free to run in a moment, just try to be careful. [there's always something coming out of the sea to cause trouble. rio trills in what is maybe agreement, begrudging or not.]

( yes. regardless on when and the time of their meet up, rio and viktor will realize very quickly that jinx is the kind to not show up on time. but maybe that's a good thing. it gives the two of them some alone time on their own for a little while.

but don't worry! jinx shows up sooner or later and she comes, well, strapped. does she expect this meeting to turn sour? not in particularly but with trench being dangerous and filled with all sorts of monsters, one can't be too careful. on her person are her three typical weapons: her pistol, pow-pow, and finally fishbones. now she doesn't expect anything to go so drastic where fishbones is needed (he doesn't have a missile in him anyway), but she is growing very weary of his complaining.

"how come you never take me with you?", "when can i meet your friends?", "are you ashamed of me?", "hey, i wanna make friends too!" on and on with that guy! she promised he could tag along but only if he kept his mouth shut during the whole meet-up. and thank goodness, he agreed with very little fuss. so humming and skipping down the boardwalk (shoving the local trenchers out the way; not apologizing either), she calls out to him with a big grin on the face. )

Hiya, you made it!! — Guess ya didn't bail after all...!

( was she expecting him, too? possibly. it's not often people of zaun nor piltover would be eager to have a meet-up with the loose cannon, herself. )

[part of him would be maybe a little relieved if she didn't show up, in truth. that's a better conclusion than other ways this meeting could go, and the unnatural paleblood paranoia keeps whispering in his ear all the terrible ways he could die. how flimsy flesh is, how his new lungs could be ripped from his chest-

yes. the good thing about an emotional bond is being able to airdrop these feelings to pal and ask if this is maybe a little much. usually it absolutely is, so very much trying ignore that. for example, seeing all her weapons and reminding himself this is a dangerous area in an already dangerous city. sensible to be armed. probably not an overt threat.

rio regards her curiously, a little cautiously, though viktor manages a quirk of his lips in greeting.]

You were the one who was late, mind you. [not that he really minds, they managed a little beach combing. in fact he waves something at her, a sandy, gross looking walkman.] Look what we found, it seems to be a music player of some sort.

( once she spots him waving the device around, jinx hurries on over while dropping all of her weapons onto the sand. how mean! but hey, they don't care. maybe. fishbones might have whined but when doesn't he?

anyway once she's by his side, her eyes wide with such delight over the strange gadget. )

Whoooa.... and I thought the omni playin' music was weird. I never thought a gramophone can get altered in so many ways!

The digital aspect of it all is fascinating, I'll admit. [he holds it out for her to take and examine, having already done so himself. frankly it seems like the sort of thing she'd like anyway, given their first conversation started about music.]

From what I gather searching through the omni you attach headphones into this jack here. I was thinking with a little work it could be connected to the omni and used to play music from that.

( taking the offer to inspect it, her eyes follow to here he points at the jack and tries to imagine how it would look. )

Oh, I get it!! So... with the headphones there, only the listener can hear it and not anyone else. Smart.

( and then naturally, her thoughts go way and beyond than it truly needs to. )

Ooor here's another thing! If ya plant a false one with an explosive, you can make the enemy think it'll play somethin' but instead, it'll just trigger the bomb the moment they hit this button.

a sigh. well, it's a good trap, just. you know.] I think I prefer it's original function. It would be a shame to waste the machine as it is on an explosive regardless.

Whaddya mean it'll be a "waste"?! A thing like this would be perfect!!

( how can he not see the amazing possibility?! and someone lame like him went to the academy, bleh. )

Okay, look. See if anyone is from our timeline or, I dunno, sometime before this gadget was created, it'll be SO easy to fool anyone with this! Your first thought coming across this would be to press all sorts of buttons to see what it'll do. It's like a ninety-five percent probability.

SO! This would be the most ideal trap. ( she lifts up the walkman for a closer look -- mumbling more so to herself than him. )

— Pffbbt, a "waste", he says... what a loon.

( because yes, viktor is CLEARLY the crazy one to not see this wonderful opportunity. )

You could do the same with lobbing bomb at someone. [he answers with a wave of the hand.] Or with something far less interesting. Besides, how do you make absolutely certain it's your intended target?

[this sure is a conversation. the two wolves inside you sort of thing.]

If you wanted to make it a trap here you could use the sound itself. Hook it up to a paleblood gem, induce a trance and save the material. More than single use as well.

( jinx opens her mouth sharply to protest out of sheer impulse, but then shuts it as she thinks over his suggestion. that's... actually a better way of doing it than how she thought it up. with a small huff, she folds her arms with the device still in her hands -- again grumbling but this time it's hard to make out what she is saying.

Teh, whatever.

( he may won this battle of wits but there will be another one she will score over. )

— Anyway, you ready to see my figurines?

[hm, he's not sure if this is really a win or not. mostly because he's still not sure if debating explosives and deadly traps with a girl who actually uses them often really counts as a good thing but. well.

eh, he'll take what he can get.

regardless he nods.] That I am, let's see them.

( jinx goes to retrieve her little bag but she doesn't rummage in it for too long. in fact, the figurine she wishes to show him seem to expose itself as it flies out of the bag. despite its mechanical creaks, the butterfly flutters around like a real live one and even plops itself on his shoulder. )

I made a whole bunch of these back home. Here, I've only had enough to make just one. Poor lil' guy. All by its lonesome without its family.

[it immediately reminds him of some of the machines made for progress day in piltover he'd see buzzing around, which he wisely decides not to mention. largely because piltover is sore subject for him alone, let alone between them.

he reaches to tap the wing, charmed though-] It isn't a trap too, is it?

Ooooh ho ho! — It totally can be and it has...!! Stuck a lil' explosive in its pocket there when I first used it. ( she points to the small compartment at its "tail".) 'Course this one is on empty. Pinky promise.

( will he believer her? she doesn't particular care if he does or not. the point being is this is one of her many figurines she wishes to show off to him! )

[does he believe her? hm. he's at least willing to believe she's probably not going to blow him up, so that's about as good as that gets. so he allows himself to examine the figure closer, reaching a hand over to see if it will crawl on his fingers.

(mildly hoping he won't lose said fingers for this. hang out times with jinx are exciting, huh.)]

Delicate work. The kids at Koz's would be enamored with it. [without explosives.]

You mean that orphanage people keep blabberin' on about?

( she is going to guess that's what he is talking about. and she cares very little for them. or maybe she is just a tiny bit bitter. everyone here is willing to throw themselves to help the kids but when she was a kid, well... she got bullied. sure, vander was there but he favored vi more than all of them (from her prospective) and just well... she felt like the runt. )

That's the one. [meanwhile viktor on the opposite side of finding it a damn relief people made the effort that didn't always get to happen when you're a sickly little trench kid.]

I can't tell if I think you would be excellent with children or a nightmare. [bluntly honest there.]
