Beatrice the Golden Witch ([personal profile] manyone) wrote in [community profile] deercountry2022-12-05 04:46 pm

Happy Holidays (it's not a Witch holiday but it'll do); openish

Who: Beatrice and friends; this may even include you!
What: December things!
When:Through the month of December.
Where: Around Trench and elsewhere
Notes: One (open) prompt to start. Will add closed starters as we get to 'em.

i. Snow Fight or snow flight!

Beatrice is absolutely enthralled by the cold December weather and the ongoing snow, at least to start with. She's never really enjoyed much snow where she lives--more sleet and ice, when it did get that cold in the winter than anything like proper snow. As the first week of December goes on, however and the effects of the month's strange magics begin to work on her, she finds herself spending more time outside of her home, her whole being buzzing with excess energy. She's practically bouncing off the walls at home and the urge to get out and do something is too great for her to ignore.

With the increasing urge she has to bleed off excess energy, the great and terrible Golden Witch is in an impish mood. If you're walking down the street near Sanctuary or anywhere within the bounds of Trench, you might well be the victim of a snowy prank! Beatrice is practically flying, floating in the air with her heavy winter-weight skirts fluttering around her and a heavy coat on--and she'll use this ability to simply drop a double handful of snow right onto anyone unfortunate enough to draw her attention. The attack, such as it is, is accompanied by her trademark high-pitched cackle of glee.

At least she's not killing anyone, right?

"Wonderful magic, huh."

She raises up a hand to try and brush some of the snow out of her hair - though it's basically impossible to get it all out of there so easily, white flakes remaining between the red strands even once she lowers her hand again.

"I thought you said I'm also a witch the other day?" .. granted, 'the other day' is a while back by now.

But it still counts. Ange is pretty sure Beatrice will remember the exact same conversation. The one they had at Ange's wedding, a little over a month ago.

"Would you just use your 'wonderful' magic against another witch like this? So easily?"

Ange huffs. No, she sure didn't miss that part of the tale, not with everything she had looked into and read about while investigating what could possibly have happened on Rokkenjima.

"You call that a magical duel? You sure are bold, only daring to fight old grandmas."

.. Sorry, Virgilia.

It's not really an insult if the other isn't around to hear it, right?

"Would you even dare to do something if it was against someone closer to your own age?" Look, let's not.. think about the 'thousand years old' thing for now, okay. Or the fact that Ange is technically a little older. When the two of them stand here like this - they sure look like they're around the same age physically, so it totally counts. "Or are you just going to resort to childish pranks like throwing snow around?"

This is probably a bad idea.

No, scratch that 'probably.' It's definitely a bad idea, and Ange shouldn't be doing this. She wouldn't be doing it under regular circumstances, because there's just absolutely no point to it. But these aren't regular circumstances, are they? Ange has been so on edge after what happened over at the sleeper farm last month, itching for something to take it out on. And all the extra energy she's got flowing through her veins this month sure isn't helping either, making all of this so tempting. Too tempting to resist.

Oh, well. No one has to know, right? No one there to scold her, except perhaps future Ange. But that's future Ange's problem.

"Sure."

No hesitation in her voice. A slight shrug of her shoulders, like the idea of dueling with an incredibly powerful witch - something Ange has to acknowledge when she's viewing this objectively - is nothing to her.

"You want to do it right here?"

It doesn't seem like there's any sleepers or even unfortunate Trenchies around to get caught up in it, which would be the one thing holding Ange back. But with how hard it has been to traverse town with this month's weather, it's much more quiet out on the streets than it'd usually be.

"Ahh.. I don't care that you two are all lovey-dovey, but you're mentioning Battler onii-chan way too much. Are you trying to show off? It's seriously annoying."

Not that Ange actually sounds annoyed. Not in a way that leaves her truly angry, either way. The way she huffs and clicks her tongue is more reminiscent of a pouty little kid more so than anything else.

(Besides - she's not disagreeing with the rule here. Maybe that's why she's saying that instead.)

Ange raises her hands as they glow with golden magic. It doesn't seem to attack Beatrice just yet though. Instead it makes their surroundings shift, an easy trick for darkblood, especially when there's two powerful users of it gathered in one spot. It's like they aren't in Trench at all anymore, instead surrounded by a fancy mansion in Escher-style, with stairs going up and down and all around in all sorts of nonsense directions, defying both gravity and all laws of physics.

"How about you show off first then, huh?" Ange says, standing on the landing of one of those weird sets of stairs. "The kind of attack that would meet onii-chan's standards."
entreats: (i know you know the cruelty of love)

At least Ange did expect this. If she knows anything about the golden witch, it's that she never does anything halfway - especially not when it comes to displays of magic like this. Of course it's going to be something completely ridiculous like changing up the landscape around them even further.

The tower does grow right in the path of where Ange is standing, so of course she isn't just going to stand around like an idiot and get squished. She takes a leap of faith, knowing that gravity doesn't have to be a big deal here if she doesn't believe in it. If she's not a human here, but a witch, then it's easy for her to take a leap that's unlike anything a human is capable of to jump all the way over to a set of stairs on the exact opposite side of the confusing space they find themselves in - so she does, landing like it's nothing.

"Always the towers?" She calls out.

(Granted, this is an entirely different tower than the ones Beatrice summoned in the battle with Virgilia-- but can you blame Ange for wanting to sneer at the other in return for what Beatrice said a moment ago?)

"I guess people do get unoriginal with old age."

But at least Ange does move to counterattack now. She raises a hand, forming a creature out of golden butterflies until it takes shape as a huge crab - perhaps taking inspiration herself from the monster crabs that had been around on the beach before, but even bigger - as it skitters over towards Beatrice, trying to grab the other witch with its huge pinchers.
