Yeah, he's good at knowing when something is coming. Especially the weird animals- or um, zombies? That's what they look like. [like a horror movie. typical trench.] The Trench is kind of dramatic.
Someone said they don't like warmbloods, so I was worried. [about robby. to be fair by now they've done the test and know mob is a warmblood too but so far nothing's climbed the tree after him so. it's fine.]
no subject
[ Derogatory, no affection in that statement. ]
So this is a warmblood thing? [ Wow, thanks, Trench. ] You need to go out today anywhere? If you still want to look around, I've got a few things to do.
[ But the question to come... is if Mob has a buddy for the buddy system!! (from the guy with just his shy shadowy omen doggo for company) ]
no subject
I think so. I don't really get it, but I also met a coldblood who isn't having as much trouble with the traps and zombies. [he'll skip musing over the fun idea of blood discrimination, thanks trench (derogatory)]
I'd like that. [he doesn't have any plans but spending some time with robby would be nice. and make him feel a little better that his new friend isn't stuck in a trap somewhere even the power of karate can't beat. buddy system!] I'm in a tree right now, but I think I can find my way back. I can see the city pretty close by.
no subject
Wait, what? [ A TREE? It can't be seen, but Robby is stopping. ] A tree? --Are you in the forest?
[ Tone rising here in concern, HELLO? ]
no subject
I felt like I was being followed and sort of ran in here without thinking. It was pretty weird. [he's not usually easily spooked like that, it felt a bit unnatural. which again. the trench, baby. thanks.] It's okay though, I went up the tree to avoid the zombie animals. I don't think they can climb it.
So, where should we meet? [sorry about your life, robby.]
no subject
The question is where should they meet, but Robby does have a bit of a cheat with finding Mob. Magical compass, you better help him find his new special boy!! ]
Alright- listen, you have your omen out with you? Let them keep a watch on you, I'll be there as soon as I can. If you think you hear anything, don't speak.
no subject
dsrgder thank youmob blinks at his omni, a little surprised by the reaction. then again he did say the woods were dangerous, so maybe mob is the one who should be more concerned about things.mentioning his omen makes him glance to the side as said omen comes out, perching as best it could on the tree branch. once again robby winning omen points. he lowers his voice a little as he speaks] He is. Um, are you sure? It's pretty dangerous out here.
[which is the problem mob, bud. he's pretty sure he can get away easily enough if need be but this place has been weird with his powers not working sometimes.]
no subject
I'll be fine. [ He only wished he could move faster, and he can than he used to, but still- ] I've got a lead on you- I'm listening, but I'm switching to omen.
[ He could explain that better, but Robby doesn't want to waste time as he pockets his omni and lets his omen intercept the call, broadcasting it into his head, making the sound of his own breathing audible in return. Letting Robby break out into as much of a run as the roads will allow, the blue glow of the compass guiding him in his direction. He's had training with Sasuke, but that means shit still for being anything impressive--
He's still a guy, but he's a guy on a mission, doing his best to listen to the transmission of their omnis, to reach the outskirts of the city. It takes time, more time than Robby could ever be satisfied with.
Mob. Mob, buddy, how are you doing. How bad is this going to get before Robby arrives, or just as he arrives...! ]
no subject
Okay. [he has no idea what a lot of that means, but his own omen nudges him and starts using itself as the recording device to gently show him that was something he could do. robby's breathing comes from the omen and it takes mob a moment before he puts two and two together, nodding in thanks to the shibe.
how he's doing is a mix. he's right that so far he's been safe up high on the tree- extremely high, dangerously high really, a matter he changes by carefully lowering himself with the blue-purple glow of his powers until he's on a better branch. his omen follows gracefully after, steadying him when he wobbles a little. everything is fine, robby could see him better now when he approaches.
though so do the undead creatures. which is, sadly, what robby gets to arrive to.
there's two like coyotes with antlers circling the trunk, occasionally trying to climb up only for mob to swat a branch at them or throw a rock he floated from the ground. each time gets a,] Sorry. [because zombies or not he's not really happy about throwing shit at any animals. especially when he doesn't know what they are. are these beasts? were they people once? could they be fixed, or were they something better destroyed? was it okay to destroy things you didn't understand just because you were unnerved or scared?
(49%, 50%)
regardless good news: they're set on mob's scent so they don't seem to notice robby yet. bad news: that's going to change real fast, especially if robby is an easier target to reach.
when mob notices robby he's torn between relief and concern. (51%, 52%)]
no subject
But out in these woods, the dangers are always larger. At least it's not deeper in, and both human and omen do see the tree and one (1) Mob and omen inu, the glowing blue compass put away as the staff strapped to his back comes off. Robby looks at Mob but doesn't know if he can capture the other's eye, and he's not ready to make a sound. Coming in closer to witness the trouble waiting, steps slow; but he'd rather have the trouble on him than Mob, even with the boy high above.
Predictably, his scent gets picked up. The heads turn on him, a lower to the ground target than the beloved Mob. Robby's omen snarls as it pads into position, growing larger in some size, shadows wafting off it all the more. The creatures aren't deterred, circling to find their own position, assessing their new prey. Robby keeps to his spot, watching the two separate, waiting, his bo staff held in front of him in both hands.
--and the creatures make their move, pouncing forward. Robby's omen darts to startle the one nearest off its course, blinding it as it shrouds its body with its own, while Robby meets the other with a swing of his staff; bashing it aside with a one-two strike, a further kick with his toe-capped boot to kick it aside.
It won't be enough to stop undead beasts just to wind them, or threaten them with a bad time, but if Robby has to down them -- at least Mob won't likely see fully what he'll have to do to achieve that.
(but also there's a count up happening that may or may not be scarier than poking coyote-deer creature's heads with a sick, 1 fear) ]
no subject
staying on the branch is a little beyond mob's balance, he sways when he tries to turn, precious inu hurrying to help steady him with a low, warning whine. robby's omen does something cool, and robby has a staff that would honestly be pretty exciting to see used it. well. things weren't this.
so here's the thing, mob's powerful. scary powerful, people always say stuff to him like they think he doesn't get that. 'you could beat anyone, don't you know?' they say, or 'your powers are insane,' or a few spirits and espers who said 'what are you, a monster?' he's never understood it, because of course he knows. that's the problem, how insane they are, how monstrous. how he isn't sure there is anyone who could beat him if things went really, really wrong.
he started to come to better terms with using them. master reigen always found ways to show him how they can be used to help people, and a lot of people keep forcing him to anyway, even if he really hates that. he likes to think he was doing pretty well, he was learning to change maybe, even with setbacks.
then the trench happened. now he's here, and he's scared in a new way of what he is, what corruption could do. what his powers could do. what happens when a place is constantly trying to make him lose control.
(he's really scared, is the thing. 65%)
so all that to say he's had a hard time using his powers at all here. like a mental block, only the most basic things, fear otherwise churning low under the surface. he should have just pushed the monsters away but his hand trembled a little. he should have flown off but even climbing with his power felt like a risk. like maybe he could will the danger away by repressing it harder than he ever has.
but
but now robby is fighting these things, and robby has been so kind to him. more than that robby is just a cool person. even if he hadn't ended up being nice to mob in particular he knows karate and tries to help people and has a cute (in his opinion thank you) omen. he's smart enough to find mob, he's brave enough to just run here regardless of the danger. (70%)
that's why mob lifts his hand, even if it trembles a little. he's scared of his power but... robby with power isn't scary. it actually it a pretty good idea, he thinks.
a very longwinded way of saying enjoy a rather odd series of events, robby. mob's hand glows with a blue-purple, his hair lifts a little and suddenly robby could feel well... stronger. weirdly stronger, like his best just shot up by several percentage points. lighter, probably a bit of a twinge like static, if the coyote's teeth get too close they'll probably graze off. his omen will probably share it too, and both will glow in the blue-purple way.
which probably a good thing because even if the coyotes aren't strong they have the persistence of things that don't feel pain and don't care about the damage to their bodies. one is definitely going to try to lunge despite any hits for robby's throat.]
cw: zombie coyotes, brain injury...to the undead
It just means Robby has to work harder, and he's no newcomer to that. He's been training with Sasuke to up his chi, to make his movements swifter and his hits harder. It's what he brings to this fight now, though he's still-- human, for lack of a better term. The undead are only restricted by what limbs work than exhaustion or pain, neither experienced in death; and so even the downed coyote is already getting back up as the shrouded one manages to navigate itself out of Robby's omen, though it gives chase.
No one is looking up right now -- and it probably wouldn't matter, even if they were. Except that looking up is a bad idea when you're being charged at by two undead, the world looking strangely -- well, clearer, somehow. Slower. But his omen is anything but, jumping into Robby's staff with its newfound speed, giving aid to his weapon. One coyote jumps, but Robby side-steps, yet with his weapon already aimed straight into the jaw of the other lunging for him. The impact is hard and sharp enough to knock it onto its back, and it's a brief window of time that Robby has to focus on the other coyote. And it's so easy, like glancing, the time it takes to spin the weapon in his hands to turn the butt of it onto the creature to stab it with the hard end is meaningless.
It gets knocked down, but doesn't have the time to get up again when Robby does another hard strike into its skull, breaking through to the brain -- a single motion, and he doesn't even notice the resistance when he pulls it back out. The other one is already scrambling to get back onto its feet, but it's not quick enough, when Robby can stomp it back down, and do the same to it as he did its undead friend with two hard jabs.
He's not looking for a bloodbath (though there really isn't much blood for one, to begin with). As soon as he knows neither of the creatures are getting up again - and he looks, waits, backing off with both clarity and confusion, an oxymoron at work - Robby turns his attentions upward, and at Mob. Not entirely certain of why he feels he way he does, but--
But maybe, if the boy still doesn't want to come down by his own power, then this extra clarity Robby's been given will allow him to see even that, lowering his staff and getting into a spot below him. Motioning with his hands, nodding once-- ]
--it's okay.
[ Then Robby can help him one last time, be the conduit of his power that makes it seem alright, to catch the boy to bring him back down, his staff settled on the ground.
(He's not even really breathing fast, heavy. He just is.) ]
cw: very vague mention of cat death
mob can power him up considerably but all that skill was earned with a lot of hard work. he can make robby safer and faster but what he does with it, how he knows to move, that's all him.
robby's really cool, mob thinks. (72%)
when it's over mob lets out a little breath. giving power like that isn't really a sustained thing, he just gives some and it lasts however long it lasts. like most things with his powers it's largely instinctual rather than trained or particularly deliberate. the coyotes now rest in the dirt in ugly, warped piles. mob doesn't think about the cat. he does not think about the cat. (80%)
when robby looks up to him and says that mob hesitates only a moment before offering a nod, more than happy to carefully lower himself until he can drop and robby can help catch him. not having to use his powers at all, which makes a burst of gratitude well in his chest.
(this would be the true moment mob's omen finally lets go of it's vague surliness and decides robby can be trusted. not the fight, or the help before, this kindness of letting mob get down like a normal kid. this choice to use that power the way he did and the tail end of it on something so small but impactful nonetheless.
hence why the shibe jumps down and buts his head against robby's leg in thanks before sitting to watch the situation)]
Are you okay? [yeah, definitely the first thing mob needs to ask, even if things seem really okay to him]
no subject
He holds him just for a second before letting Mob find his feet, and that's around when Robby feels the bump to his leg, looks, a small nod without even really recognising the omen's message. Just, that's Mob's omen and they care about Mob, and same here, buddy.
Which is why Robby's focus is on Mob primarily, looking back at him, his hands resting on his shoulders as he's looking him over. Mob stealing his question, but- ]
I'm fine. They didn't get you? [ It doesn't look it, but he'll let Mob speak, even if Robby wants them to get away from here quickly. ]
no subject
the trench is dramatic so he doesn't know. either way whew, they're okay.
he wants to apologize, but the shibe whines softly to remind him of the situation and mob says instead,] We should probably leave. I sensed some more around, though I don't think they're very close. [there's that good common sense. shibe is relieved. save his two special boys, thanks.]
no subject
Alright, tell me if that changes. You too, [ he says to Shibe there, and he'll let his own omen come back out from his staff to the snowy ground, shrouded as always and going on ahead to defend their front!!
Robby waits until they're encroaching into the city again to speak; the city holding its own dangers, but the forest more so. He's settled his staff on his back with his bag, the back of his hands covered by a type of sheathed gauntlet he can throw over his fists if he needs to. ]
I don't know what you did back there, but -- thanks. [ He looks at Mob briefly, expression warm. ] Was a lot more than an exorcism. I hope.
[ Okay, that 'I hope' is definitely a joking addition, a quirk of a smile given if Mob looks at Robby. Hope you didn't exorcise him or anything, buddy!! (whatever that would mean under this circumstance) ]
no subject
shibe agrees wholeheartedly with this mission, a soft boof when robby directs that to him. he takes to following behind them to keep an eye out. good, good boys on guard today.
leaving the forest helps the weird, tingling paranoia that seems to threaten if he isn't careful. it also helps the smell, because really, could do without the whole decaying flesh thing forever. he's thinking about why there are even traps around - for the zombies maybe? - when robby says that.
the warm expression eases him a little, that he didn't do something wrong. he didn't exactly ask to power him up like that after all.] Ah, yes. I gave you some of my powers, sort of. Or psychic energy? I think it mostly just made what you can already do better. And other things.
[it's only something he's really done one time, so how it works is a bit beyond him. the time he did it for master reigen was a bit, hm, more dramatic all around.] You were really cool looking. [very seriously said. robby must be made aware he looked very karate.]
no subject
[ Mob!!! ...and omen too, but Mob. ]
You know, I did something like that when I first showed up here too. My blood-- we thought I could make other people's powers stronger, but your blood just gets weird every month. I liked the idea of it though, if I was going to have a power. It's a good one to have.
[ Yes, that last part is more about Mob's power being a good one to have. A++, would be made stronk again.
But there is something personal he wants to ask, and he wonders if he should. It might be good to know though, so: ]
You can't use that power any way yourself? On those things, or getting away?
[ How versatile is it? ]
no subject
blood weirdness each month- huh, that was new to him. he makes note of it, though once again robby is winning shibe points with the subtle nod to mob's power being a nice one.] It's nice to be able to do, more than other things I think. It can be hard not to overwhelm people though.
[make them too strong, really.
robby's question is a valid one. frankly a very fair one, given he pulled robby into that situation he could have handled pretty easily.] I can.
[and he slows to a stop, on whatever little street they're on, looking at the ground. he... needs to be honest about this, he thinks. he's been considering talking to sensei about it, or miss makima, but it's daunting. it seems a bit fitting it's robby in a way.
(maybe it will be fine. 81%, 82%)]
I can't... always control my powers. At home it was pretty rare but- but it was still really, really bad if it happened. People got hurt, or places got destroyed.
So I haven't been using them much here. I don't- [want them. want to hurt anyone. know what to do.] I don't know what corruption will do. Or being a beast.
no subject
But Robby stops as Mob does, not asking why he has. There's some distance between them and where they are, and they have their omens (as well as Mob's own power) to look out for them. And even with Mob's usually placid expression, he can tell that what he's building up to say means something to him.
So he listens, to a problem he's never had to dealt with before. A problem that Mob has, except did he know what to do then when he doesn't know what to do now? Robby presses his lips together tight, and he doesn't know if it'll help, but... ]
When Tory first got here, she couldn't control her power either. She'd make items, knives, living things when she got mad, and she needed help to get it under control. I don't know the guy who helped her, but I can see if he can help you? We can visit him together.
[ But he wants to offer more than that, pausing with a small silence. ]
...if there's one thing about how crazy and bad this place can get, it's that whatever you can do that that's made your life...different from everyone else back home, [ different, isolated, alone, ] there's a lot of people like that here, too. Actually, being the idea of not normal back home? Makes you pretty normal here.
[ His nose wrinkles as he tips his head with that, mouth pulled into his cheek as he looks at Mob, a face that says, can you believe that? ]
So whatever's going on with your powers - I bet someone can help you out.
1/2 it's time baby, again sorry for the essay
mob lifts his head though, the tension of his shoulders easing down a bit. it's not as though he expected robby to shun him about it in the slightest, but maybe his own low opinion of the matter made it hard to think people wouldn't feel the same. he didn't really expect any way to help either, not something as tangible as someone to maybe talk to. someone with a similar experience too.
(grateful, again, though there's that ever present spark of fear. failing, what failing could mean for the people who have been so kind to him. 90%)
he has things to say to that, mentioning miyagi-do and inner balance and maybe that could help, asking about the person who helped tory. but robby starts talking again and mob's eyes widen a little as he does.
once, a very long time ago, when he was scared of his power and much younger he tried to find someone who could help him. that person sat him down with tea as he stumbled through explaining himself. that person said 'you're a human being like everyone else.'
master reigen said a lot of things that shaped his life that day. you should never use your powers against other people. that everyone had talents and quirks, no one ability was better than another. that it didn't make you weird or special, you're just a person like anyone else. normal.
(95%, 96%, 97%, 98%)
mob's powers are tied to his emotions, which doesn't sound unlike tory getting mad and making things. (there's a lot of people like that here too, robby said.) he tries to deal with that by controlling his emotions as carefully as he can, but it's not that simple, is it? pressure builds, and eventually that pressure need release.
mostly he's been afraid lately. normal kind, beasts and nearly drowning and zombies and traps aren't exactly fun. a lot of it is what he said, unease about himself, corruption, what could happen if he messes up. people being nice to him both helped and made it scarier. they could be the ones to get hurt. it's terrible to think about.
it would have been very easy for fear to be the thing that explodes in him. it would have been bad, probably. something else has been building beside it though, warring with it. something that takes the lead when robby says 'Makes you pretty normal here.' When he informs someone can help him out.
99%]
2/2
a few things happen at once. the shibe turns to move closer, not exactly alarmed but clearly aware something was about to happen. the pressure in the air gets thick, clumps of snow and little stones rising all around them. mob's hair rises and his aura flares intensely, more colorful than before, warmer colors bleeding in with the blue-purple it usually is.
the explosion is a bit like a shockwave, though that flaring aura seems to engulf robby and his omen gently. all around things happen- plants begin to burst into intense bloom despite the ice and temperature, the snow melts to reveal green. a few windows crack and shatter, glass lifting in the air and reflecting the bright colors around.
a few things can happen with robby too, of course. it's probably not unlike being given that power before, though so much more intense. any tears or wear to his clothing might fix itself, injuries or aches might be swept away. he might feel stronger again in a more general way, like a very refreshing nap or the high of a good run. it might be a little too much, bordering on nausea. the pressure might also border on too much, close to alarming for several moments before it eases with a snap.
there's certainly a warmth everywhere, in the bubble of this power and in feeling. it floods everything, likely brushing against robby's own feelings. 100% gratitude for everything, the tension snap of a lot of fear being eased. all the times mob politely, mildly said thank you now put into a much deeper context of how much it really meant under his placid looks and small smiles.
the intensity fades quickly enough, leaving them standing in the bright greenery of happy, overgrown blooms growing through the cracks of the stone path. it ends abruptly a few feet away where the power didn't reach, back to snow and slush. glass gently moves itself back to place, though now it leaves an odd mosaic where the colors of before seem to have tinted it different hues. the shibe sits like it's relieved.
mob just blinks, the intensity of the emotion back to mild confusion and a little embarrassment as he glances around.] Ah... Um.
I'd... like to meet that person.
[haha.]
no subject
And what fourteen-year-old boy far from home and with a power that most people don't have, can't do with hearing that?
Robby doesn't expect it to get the reaction it does, though.
He's not inclined in any way to power, though his chi training with Sasuke might-- no, actually, sorry, he's useless at this stuff. To Robby there's just a rush, a sensation that makes him move backwards for something that can't be moved away from. He doesn't know what Mob's doing, and admittedly, there is a confusion, a panic.
And then there's what happens outside of Robby's own mind and around them. The smashed windows, the dormant plants being given a second lease at life, and Robby feels--far, far too exhilarated, dizzying so. Mob's blue looks fantastically blue, and even as that power dies away, the glass fitting itself back into place, the world just seems so --
loud.
Robby is left staring at Mob, baffled into silence. Even his omen is watching the group with confusion. ]
...Sure.
[ okay. yes. contact the person, they can do that. ] I'll message Tory...and we can get out of here?
[ Said, with a look back at the glass...that's in its window, but. Still.
(He hasn't even noticed the new length to his hair, or his nails, at that.
But then--there's a few adjustments that will take time for Robby to realise.) ]
no subject
it's cathartic, it always is. a weight off, even as shame tugs at him for letting it get like this. nowhere near actually losing full control, those he doesn't remember at all until he comes to, but enough. his legs feel a little wobbly, drained from the power used. the bubble they're in is still warm like a nice spring day and will probably remain warm and blooming for quite a long time, or until the trench or a pthumerian override it.
he glances to robby after assessing things again quickly (the windows looked pretty now, like stained glass kinda, but he still broke them. did he have to pay to get them fixed back to normal now? did people even live around here?) and he notices that longer hair. it makes him blink, unaware that was something he could do. a shame, hanazawa probably would have appreciated that after the whole shaved head thing.
mob nods to that, starting forward with his omen sticking close to his side this time. leaving the bubble is when he glances over again]
S-sorry, about... that. And your hair. It looks nice like this though. [he attempts. at least he could just cut it?? still probably rude to shove a bunch of psychic power into someone and make their hair grow without asking.]
no subject
He doesn't even know what Mob means right away, focusing on that -- and he touches his head with a 'huh?', and feels properly the way it's hanging now. The strands are longer, and he isn't really sure what to think about that. Honestly-- ]
Are you okay, Mob? [ --now is really the time to talk about what's important. ] Is that what happens? When you use your powers?
[ There's nothing accusatory, just a consideration: is that the problem? Because maybe it wasn't bad, but -- if that's going to happen each time, they sure need to be careful, don't they?
(Oh, he should text Tory. See about getting Obi-Wan's contact from her.) ]
