[ That wording certainly is better for Ange's pride, and some of the surprise fades in the light of it.

.. the embarrassment doesn't, though. Ange has never been good at accepting these sorts of things without getting at least somewhat flustered, after all. ]

Because there's people kind enough here to do so. [ She looks down as she says that, but then her gaze flutters back up to Faith. No shock, which means Ange is being honest, despite the fluster.

Which also means she does think Faith is genuinely kind. To her, anyway. ]

I'm not so sure anything changed about me between this place and the world I came from, so the reason way more people care about me here has got to do with the people here instead.

Or the people back home just really sucked. [It's not like she can't relate to the sentiment. The difference is that Faith did horrible things and was treated with scorn and distrust as a result.]

Nobody back home would've ever said I was kind, so maybe it's just this place for whatever reason.

[ As to that last part, she means. It can't be coincidence that they're both dealing with the same thing here. Maybe the suckiness of a place has something to do with how nice the people in it were. Her own world certainly wasn't as bad as this one, anyway, especially since most people didn't even know about all the crap with the witches..

Ange sighs, almost dramatically. Like people being nice to them Sure Is A Burden, or something along those lines, and then she shakes her head. ]

You want to try doing some of those cliched questions they gave us? I guess that's what we're supposed to be doing here.
