[ This is embarrassing! Ritsu is just as good at hiding his emotions as his brother, though, he just does it with a veneer of vague friendliness and the distance of Japanese politeness. So instead he does another quick bow. ]

Yes! I wanted to make you something but I can't cook.

[ So, fruits. Hopefully Miss Makima wasn't planning to use these in a dessert or anything. (The perils of living in a house with teenagers.) ]

If you're not feeling up to eating yet, I can put it away.

[ But hopefully Daniel isn't that badly injured. He isn't, right? He can eat a little fruit so Ritsu doesn't worry, right? ]

[ He shakes his head. ]

No, I'd like to eat some right now. [ Please. You can't dangle a gift from one of Daniel's kids - and yes, even if Ritsu hasn't had the opportunity to come to class much yet, Daniel views him that way all the same just due to him being his student - in front of the man and not expect him to want to indulge right away.

He's too touched. He's still smiling, even. Sorry, Ritsu, you're getting the full on embarrassing dad treatment.. ]

If that's alright.

[ He manages to raise a hand. The motion is still a little weak, so he can't grab the container with the fruit all by himself.. P-Please hand it to him, Ritsu? ]

I can't let your thoughtful gift go to waste.

[ Ritsu is so embarrassed, but he'll still take the lid off the tupperware and hand it over. I truly don't know what kind of fruit can be sourced in Trench, probably Makima was planning to make some delicious dessert with strawberries or peaches and Ritsu pinched it instead. ]

[ His voice overly forceful out of sheer social awkwardness. Though he adds in a murmur: ]

Don't get too excited, it's just fruit...

Oh, I'm afraid it's already too late.

[ Sorry, Ritsu. Apparently Daniel isn't tired enough to totally miss that murmur - or maybe it's just dad sense. Sensei sense. Being able to hear what teenagers are muttering all around you, since you're so used to it.

Either way, there's almost a twinkle in the man's eyes as he glances over at Ritsu, smiling a little as he takes the container. Is this genuine, or is he being embarrassing on purpose, who knows.. It's probably the former, considering Daniel is so naturally sweetly cringe. ]

I'm already very excited. It's not every day that someone comes to bring me fruit.

[ Especially in places like Trench, where it can be hard to get.. Look at Daniel fishing a strawberry out of the container. ]

I'm feeling very spoiled now. [ Ritsu's only salvation is the fact Daniel put the fruit into his mouth and now has to be quiet for a few moments while he's chewing it.. ]

Ah, well, good!

[ Flushed a little, still wiggling where he stands with repressed embarrassment, but he says that with his whole chest. ]

Sensei deserves to be spoiled when he's sick. It's not like he has parents here, right?

[ Ritsu doesn't see anybody else here providing fruit! Probably because they give Daniel stuff like "actual medical attention" but whatever, Ritsu can't do any of that. ]

Um, that reminds me. Is it still okay for me to call you that, even if I don't join the dojo?

[ Daniel is in the middle of eating the fruit when he stops for a moment - or rather, his chewing gets a little bit slower before he swallows the piece he was having and stopping himself from picking up a new piece just yet. It's not even the part about his parents, since his mother obviously isn't in this place, but it's the last part that surprises him enough to make him pause.

Not the not joining the dojo part. It's not like karate is for anyone, after all. Daniel might like it, but he won't judge anyone for turning it down. No, it's the other part. ]

Sure. [ At least the answer is easy, despite his surprise. ] If you want to.

[ Not like Daniel is going to deny anyone that. ]

Why though? [ It sounds like an innocent question, without any real judgement. There's just curiosity. ] Because of your brother?

[ Mob calls him sensei, after all.. And from what Daniel has seen from the two of them, he's pretty sure Ritsu looks up to his brother. Or at least follows in his footsteps enough in some ways that it might be a reason for him to want to also call Daniel sensei. ]

Ah, I guess.

[ Ritsu glances up at the ceiling, clearly not sure how to phrase this, his fingers fiddling with his jumper. ]

It's just, you're a good teacher. You've really helped Shigeo a lot, and... I still think I could learn a lot from you, even if it isn't martial arts.

[ Because all the other stuff Daniel says about balance, Ritsu really admires that. Though some of it is just because he doesn't want Daniel to take this as a personal rejection (even though probably he shouldn't actually have to worry about that, it's an anxiety not grounded in reality.) ]

.. well, you're always free to come learn whatever you want from me, Ritsu.

[ Daniel smiles at that. Softly, and perhaps even just a touch flustered around the edges, because this poor old man is just so weak to praise.. He feels it's sweet of the boy to go out of his way to mention that when it's not even like they've known each other for long.

It's a kind thing to do. ]

It doesn't have to be karate. Even if you just want to stop by for meditation, or for cooking lessons, or anything else you'd want to learn that you think I might be able to help with.. I truly don't mind. The door is always open for you.
