As okay as I can be.

[ Kind of a non-answer, since it doesn't say too much. But talking about the full extent of his pain to kids - that just doesn't feel right. And at least Daniel feels like this is an answer that doesn't lie.

He could've died, after all. And he didn't. So he'd say that's being more okay than the worst case scenario already. (But the last time he brought up death, Keith had seemed so-- so off, and he doesn't want to cause that again.) ]

... come sit down. [ Daniel says, managing to lift one hand enough to gesture at the chair next to his bedside. ] If you tell me what you've already heard, I can probably fill in some details.

[tempredmental]

[Keith pushed off from where he was leaning against the doorframe and approached, taking the offered seat.]

Well, something about some big fight... and lots of damage to stuff. Like buildings.

[He raised an eyebrow.]

I just never found out about how it all started, I guess.

[miyagimagic]

[ Daniel hums.

Not because he doesn't know it started - he knows very well what the cause behind all of this was, even if he doesn't know what directly set Mob off. And while so many people know the details that it probably can't hurt to share, he still worries just a little bit. The last thing Daniel wants to do is give anyone a bad impression of such a good kid like Mob, after all.

It leaves him thinking for a moment, but then he speaks on, looking over at Keith. ]

One of my students has.. very strong psychic powers. [ A statement that would have been weird to Daniel about a year ago or so, but he's rapidly getting used to this stuff here. ] It seemed like they went out of control somehow. He wasn't himself anymore, and he started attacking and destroying a lot of things around here against his own will.

[ Because that's a part of this Daniel really wants to make clear. Even if Mob did this, it wasn't his fault. He wouldn't want Keith to think so either. ]

[tempredmental]

[Keith was strongly beginning to understand the whole 'against one's own will' thing in this place. He nodded.]

Was it corruption related?

[Because that did things to people... made them into monsters and horrible versions of themselves.]

[miyagimagic]

[ He shakes his head. No - if it was corruption, he surely would have heard about it by now. But every single person he's spoken to about this, Mob himself included, has made it very clear that it's got nothing to do with corruption. ]

It seems more like a personal thing.

[ Hence why he can't say too much about it here - offering Keith a half-sheepish and mostly weak smile. ]

Either way, it's over now. He's back to normal, thankfully. That's what I'm most grateful for. [ You know, even though Daniel is still.. very much stuck in bed with a healing broken back..

But this is apparently where the guy's priorities lie. With the kids first, and himself only second. ]

[Keith understood, surprisingly. Putting someone else's welfare above his own was something he did a lot. It didn't matter what happened to him, as long as the other person was okay. That's how he got the scar on his face...

He nodded.]

So, how long do you think you'll be stuck in bed?

[miyagimagic]

Hopefully not too long.

[ Though with the tone Daniel uses as he's saying it, it sounds like he's well aware that it could be a while more. You don't just heal that easily from a broken back, after all.

Not even when you're a squid person. ]

The doctor said that it'll heal as long as I make sure to rest. So I figure it's better to not get out of here unless I'm really sure it's healed. [ Or he'll just ruin it and have to start all over again from the beginning..

Daniel huffs, keeping his voice a little light as he adds: ]

It's really boring though.

[tempredmental]

[That got a laugh out of Keith.]

Yeah... I know the feeling.

[He'd been stuck for a while recovering from injuries back home not long before ending up in this place. And it sucked. Granted, recovering from a head injury always sucked because of the lack of physical and mental activity for a certain time, but oof... he got it. He really did.]

Guess you'll just have to have people keep you company or something. Maybe some reading material between visits.

[He smirked a little. He imagined that Daniel probably had a lot of people wanting to come see him.]

[ That is the only cure for boredom here, huh? It's not like Daniel can just get up and do something, after all. His body simply wouldn't allow him to. ]

I've already asked my students to visit. [ There's a pause, where he probably realises what the sounds like - or what it might be taken as - before he shakes his head a little and adds: ] Mostly because I wanted to make sure they were all alright after what happened. A whole lot of them were around when it all went down.

[ And the fact that talking with them gives Daniel something to do helps. Especially when this is something he really wanted to do and was worried about in the aftermath of it all. ]

As long as you're not going to be demonstrating moves for them to practice.

[Keith smirked.]

[ He lets out a huff of breath. It'd almost be a laugh, were it not for the fact Daniel is still tired and still in relatively quite a bit of pain. ]

I don't think I could do that even if I'd want to.

[ And he doesn't! For the record! Daniel isn't stupid enough to attempt karate with a broken back. ]

It feels like I'd just fall over the moment I'd try to take a single step out of bed. [ Like a pathetic old man... ]

Sounds like staying put is your best bet, then.

[Honestly, Keith was only harping on it because he was used to people like himself and Shiro, who tended to push back against orders to do things like rest while healing.]

But, yeah... I'll definitely be back to check on you.

[He smirked a little, but he was actually serious about it. He'd be back to make sure Daniel was getting what he needed and wasn't too bored. He'd kind of developed a soft spot for him. He wasn't much younger than Keith's own dad would have been if he was still around, and the similarities to Shiro when it came to certain things were hard to not to connect.]
