(open) you're looking at me like you don't know who i am

Who: Ange, Ruby, Break, and anyone who knows any of them.
What: Corruption turned Ange into a true Umineko witch who decided the best way to keep the people she loves safe from this town is to drag them into a pocket dimension.
When: For a while in March.
Where: Ange and Ruby's house-turned-small-pocket-dimension.

Content Warnings: Potential violence if anyone acts particularly antagonistic. Potential talk of violence or gore. Other warnings will be added when things pop up.

Perhaps you have seen Ruby's odd network post and decided to check things out. Or maybe you're just wandering around Trench and notice that Ange and Ruby's house suddenly looks.. different.

The house has been completely overgrown by way oversized roses, big thorns growing out of all the stems, completely obscuring the structure that's supposed to be underneath it. If you get close enough to the cluster of roses, you may feel your connection to any of the three people inside suddenly pull you in. (Please note: only people who know either Ange, Ruby or Break will be able to enter the pocket dimension because of this!)

If you give in to the sensation, everything around you might go black, and when the light returns, you seem to find yourself in.. a hedge maze. A rather odd one, though. As you stumble through it, you may suddenly find yourself in random rooms, and then back out of them into the hedge maze once more. The Moss King's wild plants seem to have even invaded corners of this place, so you might want to watch out you avoid having those snap at you. Retracing your steps through the labyrinth feels impossible, like the way is changing up behind you with every step. Some rooms make perfect sense - like a neat and elaborate kitchen, or a library - and others seem to consist of nonsense with stairs leading upside down or to nowhere, or gravity not working in a specific room at all.

Flying throughout the entire maze are golden butterflies. They seem to fly with direction, and if you follow them, you might find them leading you to one of the people you were looking for..

It truly is something else. Not quite what I would have expected from Ange, of all people.

[ The pipe is tapped distractedly against the opposite hand, almost more as a fidget tool than something she actually smokes. ]

Battler was worried about her, even though I thought it was about time she did something for herself. Still, I thought it might be best if I came and took a look. As her predecessor to the title of Golden Witch it's right for me to look in on my junior, don't you think?

[ Translation: I'm also worried about her but I can't just say that. ]

You're right. After everything, it's long past time for that girl to be properly selfish.

[Break may be past his own corruption by this point, but there's an edge to his statement all the same. He still doesn't know the half of what Ange went through, trying to get to the bottom of what happened to her family. He only knows the basics of her life with Eva, and at her horrible boarding school. But he was there this past summer when other members of her lost family were present in Trench. He watched as something that should have been a miraculous gift instead produced nothing but drama, and it was Break's chest she wept into as she called herself stupid for being hurt.

That time was the last brick in the path that has led Ange to moving on at last, something Break is relieved by. Still. Break has slaughtered people for hurting his kids in the past.]

Mm, but — I imagine Young Master Battler is concerned because he has seen firsthand what kinds of things can happen when a Golden Witch is pushed to taking matters into her own hands. Hm?

Yes. Of course. This is more in character for me than it is for her. And I am supposed to stay tucked safely inside the pages of the legends of Rokkenjima, not roam the world doing... this.

[ She waves a hand at the hallway around them. Frowning. ]

Besides, I thought she wanted to get away from this place. Entombing herself in Rokkenjima is the last thing I'd expect from Ange. At least in normal circumstances.

Then, Lady Beatrice, I'm happy to tell you that that's not what Miss Ange is doing at all. To entomb implies an ending. This place is meant to be a beginning.

[If Break were still in his corrupted state, he'd say this with incredible pride in his voice. Instead, he just sounds cool and calm. Things certainly aren't as bad as they could be -- it seems the drama the other Ushiromiyas brought last summer was properly enlightening, and she hasn't gotten it into her head to start pulling them in from other dimensions to restore her lost family or anything. But now, the haze lifted from his own eye, Break can see the way her love has been twisted by her own corruption, and the danger in it.]

I couldn't tell you exactly what she's thinking. She's made me her "furniture" -- that's a terribly silly word, by the way -- but the link between us doesn't give me that sort of insight. However, it may be that...she wishes to give this place that has held so much influence over her life another chance at being something wonderful. That's what she's wanting for the rest of us, you know?

A beginning?

[ Beatrice doesn't bother hiding the disbelief in her voice. She listens, though, as Break speaks. If only because she trusts him both to have Ange's interests in his heart and because she believes that he will tell her only the unvarnished truth of what he thinks. After all, she's not foolish enough to think he likes her for her own sake. ]

Yes, I understand that much. As much as Rokkenjima was a prison, and a miserable one, it was also a place where there some happy memories. Safety. Warmth. So it makes sense that she might make it into a refuse. She only has pleasant memories before the tragedy after all, and she was a child. She didn't see the rotten truth of it because the adults in her life hid it from her.

[ An exhalation of pipe smoke wafts upwards. ]

The urge to protect those precious to her... I understand that, too. I wanted to take the ones I loved to the Golden Land, even when I killed them again and again. I wanted Battler so badly to solve the riddle and know the truth.

I don't know what it will take to shake her out of this but she can't go on like this. Her powers here are not so great that she can sustain this indefinitely. Not even mine are.

Hoh? And may I ask what happens to a witch who runs through too much of her power?

[Break has seen it already, truth be told -- Ange's worn herself out using too much magic around him once or twice. But those incidents were the acts of a young girl desperate to protect the precious things that were being threatened right in front of her eyes. He wants to know directly from Beatrice how things work on this sort of scale, when one sets about meticulously creating a whole new dimension, with furniture at her back and a long-term plan in mind.]

And, perhaps more importantly -- would you be able to guess at how long it may take her to burn out? Just so I know what sort of deadline we may have, you understand.

[His expression is neutral and his tone is light, as though he's asking when he might expect the dinner guests to come along. But Beatrice may well be observant enough to notice the way the line of his slim shoulders stiffens. For this witch in particular to pronounce the place unsustainable is alarming, and he may have to increase the pace of his meddling.]
