Who: Rapunzel (
prodigalhairess) & YOU
What: Catchall for general introdution/settling in and event stuff!
When: Early November
Where: Disaster House + All over
Content Warnings: None for now, will update if necessary
[A; 7 AM, The Usual Morning Lineup... (Closed to Disaster House residents)]
[When Rapunzel starts feeling anxious, she falls back into old habits.
Nothing too bad, but in the past few months, she's taken to really diving into things that just keep her moving and busy for hours on end. In the tower, it was her chores and hobbies that kept her from falling too deep into the dull monotony of a confined life. In the palace, it was painting. She'd painted over and redone her entire room to keep herself from thinking about the severity of her parents' missing memories and the threat of Cassandra looming over her. And... it helped, really. Painting each new scene and each new bit of creative flair helped her focus, to keep thinking about the good rather than the bad.
It didn't work all the time. She still thinks of that big, blank spot on her ceiling a lot. The missing piece.
But the point is, Rapunzel doesn't like wallowing forever. So it takes only a few hours after Varian brings her home with him for her to be up and about; she'd been attempting to clean, but the sheer amount of stuff in the Disaster House keeps on distracting her. One moment she might be outside, marveling at the gorgeous collection of plants and flowers in the garden. The next, she might be in one of the many reading nooks, her eyes practically glowing as she skims so many titles of so many books she's never heard of. Or maybe, perhaps, she's in the music room! She's very good at both the guitar and piano, and will probably lose quite a bit of time alternating between both.
... She notices the grave out back, too. But she doesn't want to dwell on that.
So... yeah! You've all got a new roomie, the fabled princess from Varian's world. No time like the present to start bonding, yeah?]
[B; So Many Roads I've Yet to Travel, So Many Friends I Haven't Met... (OTA Everywhere)]
[Even in a dark, ominous city like Trench, it's hard to really snuff out the excitement and curiosity that often overtakes Rapunzel. This is somewhere new, somewhere different, and though there were definitely times where the hairs at the back of her neck stood on end as she explored, for the most part, she just... wants to dive into anything she can find.
Throughout all the districts and all the shops, the golden-haired princess can be found. Trying on clothes - the clothes too dark and warm to fit with her usual attire, but she still wants to fit in!!! - in one store, examining various trinkets or baubles in another. She'll definitely be found rooting through a bookstore, almost overwhelmed with the vast amount of information in front of her. A whole new world, with brand new stories! What's not to love here????
The one time she seems to mellow out is when she passes by one of the statues of the Pthumerians. She's not... unsettled, exactly, though that feeling at the back of her neck prickles. It's more like she seems to be reminded of something, a wary hint of familiarity glinting in those emerald green eyes. The statues are beautifully carved but...
The Great Tree. Janus Point. Gorgeous altars to old magic, heavy with secrets just as ancient....
... Yeah. It's. Certainly a look.
But she tries not to dwell on it for long! Rapunzel's on a mission to learn everything about this new world, and nothing can stop her. Especially not the person she accidentally just walked into-]
Oof- oh, sorry!! I just- [She laughs.] This is all a lot to take in, isn't it? I've never seen anything like it before!
[C; Mushabooming (OTA Everywhere)]
[Rapunzel had a goal today: try and make herself useful for her new friends. She'd already done her best to organize and clean up bits of the house the other day, but she knows she needs to do more for these people who have been taking such good care of Varian. She'd noticed the way mushrooms have been popping up like weeds, so maybe... some kind of soup? Soup's always a perfect ward against the chill of the cooling weather. And she's made her fair share of mushroom soups just from what Gothel would gather, so this is something she could definitely do on her own!
... Of course, she wasn't prepared for the strange fungi popping up. She's already gotten a few good handfuls of portabellos and buttons stuffed in her bag when she comes across one of the weepers. It's... bizarre, to say the least, and Rapunzel can't help but crouch down to examine it more closely.]
Strange...
[She's not stupid, though. After nearly a year on the road, she knows better than to just pick strange plants - especially fungi without knowing what they are. So instead of doing that, she'll plop down there, right on the side of the road, and pull out her sketchbook. It's not her journal - not the one her mother gave her, so stuffed with memories of her adventures thus far - but it's a new one that's already seen some use. She turns to a fresh page, pulls out a pencil, and begins sketching.]
Looking like that, I bet you must have some pretty interesting properties, huh, little guy? Either that, or you're.... really dangerous.
[A pause, and then she shuffles a foot away. She probably shouldn't take any chances, huh?]
But you're still fascinating to look at!

but the siren call of music has her tip-toeing closer, spinning a little on her toes with a faint smile. ]

You know how to dance?
[Rapunzel's seen professional dancers before, so just one look at how the girl twirls so gracefully is enough to clue her in.]

She reaches out for another hair bauble, this one a pretty little wing clip, when her hand bumped into someone else's.]
Oh! Sorry about that! You have it, you grabbed it first! [She looked up.
AH! RAPUNZEL?! Her eyes widened.]
no subject
... Well, perhaps it wasn't meant to be, because someone else was interested.]
Whoops- sorry! I didn't mean to-
[When she looks up, there's a brief pause; Rapunzel's brows furrow ever so slightly as she looks at Usagi, something tugging at the back of her head. It's the same sense of deja vu that she had when she first woke up on the beach... weird.]
... Huh. Have we met before?

(A) Living Room
Rapunzel, right? Welcome to our happy home! Are you finding things all right?
no subject
Yeah, it's all been great! [Well, as great as can be when you wake up in a strange other world.] Y'know, even after living in a castle with so many people for a while now, nothing felt quite this... lived in. It's nice.
[She loves her home, truly, but the castle is so... big. It makes for some good exploring, but geez, it sure can be a hassle when you're trying to find someone.]
I'm really glad Varian has people like you here with him. It's good to see he's making a lot of friends.

A.
Of course, he knew who she was. After all, he had seen her corpse on the beach not that long ago with everyone else of Varian's regretful past. She was very, very vibrant in life, and he knew it was going to give him a tooth ache.
Still, after that whole scene with Lance and everyone being up in arms about that, Reaper had decided to bake because he actually did that. They wouldn't last long with the children in the house, so he decided to actually make some sort of small effort with the one who might be more adult than the rest.
He approached when she was playing the piano, a plate with some black cupcakes on it held in one hand. He supposed that he should establish some kind of reputation in the house again, and besides, she probably had embarrassing stories of Varian that he would definitely use against the guy in future.]
Are you self-taught? [His voice was naturally growly from old scarring to his throat.]
no subject
She knows not to judge someone by their appearances. So after shaking off that surprise, the princess smiles and gives an enthusiastic nod.]
Yeah, I am! I mean... I used to read books about music, so I kinda learned some things out of them? But I didn't have anyone to practice with.
[Aside from Pascal, that is. But he's a friend, not a teacher.]
So I mostly just figured things out as I went along! Neat, right?

There's not even a glint of recognition in her eyes, but everything else about her is the same. From the way she carries herself to that warm, gentle smile as she patiently waits for him to stutter out his response.]

He finds her in a reading nook, a little smile crossing his face as he moves to sit across from her. it's honestly nice to see her distracted and happy with something. He knows Cassandra is one hell of a weight by herself, without adding everything else to the mix.]
Hey. Are you settling in okay?
no subject
She doesn't want to slide back into old habits again, but... she's still having a hard time processing everything. It's why she's trying to lose herself in the book she's currently curled up with, and why there's just a hint of tiredness in her smile when she looks up at Varian.]
I think so, yeah! It's... a lot to take in. [Understatement of the century, there.] But I think I'm doing okay. It helps that your house is absolutely fascinating!
[She sets her book aside, turning fully to face him as her hands clasp together.]

That's the initial thought that goes through Ange's mind, though she's thankfully not as frustrated as she was the other day, so it doesn't give rise to an instinctive need to snap back at the other person for bumping into her. Instead she just lets out a sigh - a deep one, like her very soul is leaving her body.
Like she truly is suffering this bumper-inside-of-a-pinball-machine fate. ]
Ah. [ When Ange speaks up, her voice is flat, almost devoid of emotion. It matches her pokerface, really. ] You must be new here.
[ Judging by what Rapunzel is saying, anyway. ]
.. I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad kind of 'a lot', honestly. [ It could be either, considering what Trench is like. ]
no subject
Oh boy, that sigh... Rapunzel's heard that sigh before. It's the sigh Cassandra often gave in the early days of their friendship, when Rapunzel did something that inevitably made the handmaiden's job harder than it had to be. She looks a little sheepish, then, awkwardly scratching at her arm, as she smiles apologetically.]
Is it that obvious? [... It really is, Raps.] To be honest... I'm not sure either. I mean - everything is beautiful, of course! It's not the style of art or architecture I'm used to, but... it has that kind of otherworldly beauty, doesn't it?
[Always trying to see the positives, even in the dark. That's Rapunzel, all right.]
But at the same time... it's all more than a bit ominous, too.

C!
Rapunzel.
[He didn't know Rapunzel as well as he knew Cass--they didn't live together, after all, and Archer would unceremoniously toss Erwin out or bother him until he left whenever he was over at Rapunzel's house--but she's still a familiar face in a new location.]
Are you taking notes on our new surroundings?
no subject
Even in Trench, there's Varian. He's been here for some time, and he has plenty of friends. They could know about her through him. So really, it's not strange to hear an unknown man calling out to her. She just smiles and waves, setting her pencil down but leaving the book open.]
Kind of! [She's not hiding it, so if Erwin leans over to look, he'll see the half-finished sketches on the open pages.] I've never seen mushrooms like this before, so I had to make some sketches of them. They're pretty neat, right?

[ The voice comes directly behind the young woman as a boy with blue hair stands a foot back behind her. He'd been on his own walk around the town just to see what fresh horrors the city of Trench brought into being. He's been staying out of the town and in the house for a whole month; since October always was an awful time in Deer.
But, right now things seemingly didn't seem as awful. So, when he saw this woman just sitting by herself a brow quirked up. Varian had mentioned a friend from back home with a similar description...and...no it couldn't be, though it never hurt to check.
What Rapunzel would see though is a a boy who clearly was not going with the fashions of the time. He purses his lips before he turns to look between her book and the mushroom. ]
What ARE you doing anyways?
no subject
[... She sounds. Completely serious. Amused, but serious. Sure, the Forest of No Return was one of the first big tests of how their group handled conflict, and sure things got... really weird for a while there, but it all turned out fine. Eugene hadn't been hurt, so she can look back on him getting eaten by a fanged mushroom and laugh! It's fine, right???]
I'm sketching out all the fancy-looking ones. See? [She holds out her sketchbook to show him; she's already finished the outline of the mushroom, and seemed to have just started penciling in the details when Glitch approached.] I've seen some strange things in books and out on the road, but... nothing like this before.

Ergo... mushrooms. Mushrooms were a suitable food, provided they weren't horrifically poisonous. There'd been many foraging trips along the road to the Dark Kingdom, in which Cassandra had to point out just which fungi were safe to eat, and which ones would've swollen Eugene's throat shut. It was a full-time job, but her father taught her well enough, as he did with most things that didn't involve being the father she needed.
But then there's.... Rapunzel. Sitting by herself on the roadside, crouched before a mushroom she was... doodling. Yes, definitely doodling. Of course, Cassandra couldn't see just what she was sketching from her position over in these bushes, but maybe if she was quiet enough, she could sneak over--
SNAP
A twig, underfoot. And just like that, the blue-haired woman has ducked back into the foliage with nary a sound.]
no subject
She's still not faster than Cassandra, so when she spins around to pinpoint the source of the sound, the other woman is safely hidden - but Rapunzel does see a brief flash of glowing blue. Her heart stutters, then speeds up; whether it's from nerves or something else, she's not sure. Should she be prepared for a fight? Should... should she be prepared for talking?
... She's really not sure which makes her more nervous. Either way, she's sure blatantly calling Cassandra out might only annoy her, so instead-]
Is someone there?
[-She tries to at least give Cassandra an out. Or a chance to think she managed to hide well. It's something, right???]

Of course, far more obvious is the fact that Maul has red-and-black skin, yellow eyes, horns, and yep, even fangs. Honestly, he looks exactly like the type of person that Mother Gothel had warned Rapunzel was waiting for her outside the tower. But he doesn't seem quite inclined to attack her or do the princess any sort of harm.
Instead, he stares at her with unblinking eyes. He knows this face, not just from Varian's descriptions of Rapunzel but from his very memories as well, some of which Maul has seen after knowing the boy for more than a year and a half. When he finally speaks, his voice doesn't sound at all like one would expect someone with his visage to have. With the low, smooth, velvety tone he sounds more like he should be a narrator of ASMR videos than possessing the demonic looks he has.]
I was the same way when I first came to the town some of us were in before this one. [He pauses a moment, staring at her hair.] You're Rapunzel, aren't you?
no subject
Until she gets a good look at Maul. The skin, the horns, the eyes... she still sometimes hears Gothel's words as a barely-there whisper sometimes, when she comes face-first with the things her "mother" would often warn her about to scare Rapunzel back under her control. She hears that voice again now, clearer than she's heard it in a long time - ruffians, thugs, men with pointy teeth! - and instinctively takes a step back-
Before stopping herself, and shaking her head to chase that voice away. This man was... scary to look at, but Rapunzel knows now that she can't judge people by their appearances. She can't be scared based off of the things Gothel would tell her. If she did, then she'd be back to isolating herself in her home in no time.
... Besides, there's something interesting there for her to focus on. This... familiarity?]

Well... yeah, it's just a town, but it's nothing like any of the towns I've seen before! Corona didn't have any statues or buildings like this.
