A) Scars (in and around the disaster house)

This had been hard for the days after the second capture: sleeping on her back was a no-no, and anyone who'd heard her during the night knew that she was feeling pretty uncomfortable, so there was definitely no sleeping on the floor: the bed was a must. After that though, there was no more sleeping.

Because, well, nightmares tended to claim Luz's thoughts. It was bad enough when they were about the dark warehouse but then they started mingling with the cave and the mountain men and now Luz's dreams were pretty much built around being a snack while being bled dry. So if you weren't actually in the Disaster House you might see Luz up on the porch, a drink in her hand and eyebags for days.

What a time to be alive.

B) A-boat scavenging we go! (OTA)



Look, it's been a hard week, and Luz can't just stay in her house going crazy, no matter what her body might say! So Luz is bundled up pretty tight, bag on her back, and is already gone from the house to start looking over some of the boats in this newest arrival of Sleepers. If you were also looking to search through the boats you might find a rather chipper Luz, who's managed to extract a few rare goods from one or two boats.

"Hey, give me a hand! Maybe we can find some stuff easily, together!"

C) And then there's a time for fighting. (OTA)

So much for a peaceful search! Not that Luz thought it was going to stay peaceful in the first place, but she had definitely been hoping she wouldn't be thrown into the scary, violent side of things until a little later! But nope, there was literally evil blood coming from the ground, and Luz's glyphs, while effective, definitely was not going to be able to hold against ALL these enemies.

She could definitely use some help.

[Ok, so Luz might be crying a little more now. It was true that she would be the first person to show someone this kind of compassion, but she didn't expect it directed back at her. That was still something she had to reconcile: that she wasn't back on Earth, where people other than her mom would just pass her by].

Eventually. I know. It's just...hard to try not to think about. I saw so much messed up stuff there, and that second time...I really thought I was gonna die.

It's okay to think about it. A scary experience like that . . . of course it has left you hurting.

But you won't hurt me or anyone else by letting it out.

It was more than it just being scary. I felt weak. I know I'm only fourteen, and its dumb to think that I can just start fighting people, but I know magic! I'm supposed to be...I don't know, better at this!

[But she'd been defenseless, and now she felt even MORE defenseless because here she was telling this to someone who didn't need to be burdened with Luz's problems. She had her own to think about].

I know. I just. I don't know what to do about this. I don't know how to FEEL better.

I feel like I'm closer to a future where I become a version of myself that can't care about things anymore.

[danserai]

Maybe it's okay not to feel better. Not immediately.

[ she's gone a little quiet. ]

All emotions, even the scary and the bad ones are important. And we're lucky to have them. That's what makes everything else . . . meaningful, right?

Don't be strong at the expense of losing them.

I really wish I felt that way.

[Instead she felt like she was falling down a dark, depressing hole and that sucked. It was like every day she was fighting to find a way to cheer herself up].

I don't think I could lose them if I wanted to. Trust me Ahiru: you didn't need to see ANYTHING in the place I was in. It's enough nightmare fuel to last for months. I'd rather you at least have some good times with us before crazy stuff starts happening.

[And it will].

[ she's silent for a moment. ]

I knew someone who didn't have a heart. He had no feelings. Not even sadness or anger or pain. He was all empty and it was . . . sad.

It's hard right now because it's the only thing you can feel. But the other feelings will come back.

Whoa. For serious?! I can't even imagine what that's like.

[She made sure to say she didn't know what that would FEEL like since that wouldn't work].

I hope so. It's all I can see every time I close my eyes. I can still smell the blood.

[danserai]

It will.

Just don't lose your heart.

It's not my heart I'm worried about.

[Luz opened her mouth, showing her the beginnings of fangs].

Why are you growing teeth. Are you a vampire.

Pfft, I wish.

[Well, maybe she doesn't. She did get fed on by one, not a good business].

I think its the start of corruption.

Ohhhh.

[ corruption. like raven's blood. ]

Can it . . . be healed?

Supposedly through incense, meditation, a lot of self reflection probably.

Might even have to go back to that big bleeding tree.

That doesn't sound too bad. We can look up different kinds of incense and maybe talk to a tree.

But we'll figure it out!

Yeah! Well, maybe not talk to the tree, but other stuff. Oh, and it bleeds, did I mention that?

[Just so she's not weirded out when she sees it].

Yeah, bleeding trees make sense for this place . . .

Yeeah, Fern wasn't a fan either. But it works!

Do you need to . . . drink the blood or something.

What?! No!

B-Because blood is connected to . . . corruption?

[imaglyphwitch]

Blood causes corruption though, it doesn't take it away.

[danserai]

But not . . . all of it right? There are some blood types here that . . . help?

I think you're thinking of transfusions for some of the afflictions that we have. They do work for those, but blood corruption can happen to anyone and is usually caused by blood. In that case, you only have a few options to bring it down, and blood usually isn't one of them.

Oh . . . Sorry I didn't realize!

[imaglyphwitch]

It's ok! There's still a LOT about this stuff I'm trying to understand myself! If I can do that, then I can tell you about it so you won't make any mistakes.

That's what we do in this house anyway, we make sure we look after each other.
