Luca catchall post - Fun vileblood issues!
Who: Luca Paguro and open!
What: Luca's memory flashback, as well as generally sneaking around the Disaster House/Town/getting caught in snares because he's a vileblood and there's two blood types hunting him this month
When: Throughout the month
Where: The Disaster House or anywhere in the Trench
Content Warnings: A thirteen year old boy getting hunted like an animal, both in his memory and in the 'present day' prompts
Luca's Memory – Trying to escape Ercole (OTA)
Whoever touches the Winter Mourning will find themselves witnessing a hunt. Maybe they'll see out of Luca's eyes, a passive observer forced to make the same choices he made, or maybe they'll take on the role of someone else in the setting. Alberto, perhaps, or one of the people trying to catch Luca. Maybe they'll even be able to do their own things, make their own choices.
Regardless, the memory starts with Luca and Alberto in sea monster form racing through the streets on a bike. They're terrified, desperate. Ercole has gotten in front of them, but the hill's too steep to try and turn back and go up. Besides, they need to get back to the water to be safe, and to do that, they need to pass Ercole. Luca stares in horror as he keeps pedaling forward, and Ercole lifts his spear, ready to throw.
"You should have left when I told you. Now...I'm going to kill some sea monsters!" Ercole says, and his cackles fill the alley as he balances on his bike, his spear raised in the air.
Then, just in time, Giulia, a red headed girl who had caught up on her own bike, rams her bike in to Ercole's own, sending both of them tumbling to the ground. Luca and Alberto race past on their bike, but Luca glances back. Giulia bounces roughly on the cobblestones several time, rolling down the steep and rocky pathway.
"No!" Cries Luca.
"Giulia!" Alberto calls out to her.
Not willing to just leave her like that, not knowing if she's okay, Luca stops the bike and he and Alberto race over to her, helping her up. This was a mistake. They're surrounded now. Many of the townsfolk are just standing there, watching to see what happens next. Others seem more ready to participate in this hunt. Some have harpoons. Some have nets. They whisper.
"Look at that," says one villager.
"You're not going anywhere," says another.
Ercole, however, is quick to call dibs. "Guys! I saw them first! The reward is mine!"
Luca tries to be brave. "We're not afraid of you!"
"No," responds Ercole, "But we're afraid of you. Everyone is horrified and disgusted by you, because you are monsters."
The memory may end here. Or it may continue on for a few more seconds, so the viewer sees Giulia saying that they aren't monsters, and Massimo coming out of the crowd to tell them that the boys are Luca and Alberto. Either way, the memory wraps up soon unless the viewer is an active participant and was able to make a different choice in the course of events.
The Disaster House – Open to anyone who would be at/around the Disaster House
Luca's skittish. He's been hunted before, he knows the feeling. He knows the mortal terror, the constant hiding, the fear of discovery. The worst part is, this month even people he loved and trusted seem to be turning on him. Nowhere is safe. But this house...it's still home.
He sticks to the shadows, staying out of sight, easily startled if anyone spots him. Still, there are times he lets his guard down. Enamored with all the pretty antler decorations around the house, Luca decides to make his own. He takes a couple of antlers he's found tying them up with ribbons and decorating them with little twigs and springs from the greenhouse. At one point he even starts having enough fun with his crafting to relax enough to hum a little tune, enjoying himself as he pretties up the antlers, holding them up to see how they're coming.
Other times he can be found grabbing things from the greenhouse or the kitchen to eat. He doesn't know how to cook, though, and this month...this month he's too scared to find someone around the house to help him, so he might just start eating raw ingredients as is just to avoid coming out of hiding.
Out And About – OTA
But of course, living in a household with all bloodtypes can be quite stressful to a young boy during a season where he's doomed to be hunted by two of them, so he ends up spending quite a bit of time away from the house this month. Of course, he heeds the warnings he's been given about cold weather and bundles up. A dark grey wool coat, gloves, boots, a hat...dressed up as well as he can be as he heads out into the harsh winter.
Still, as unused as he is to this sort of winter weather, Luca does stop to marvel at the snow. It really is pretty, and he never imagined it looking quite like that. He stomps it down to crunch it, squeezes it in his hands, experimenting and examining it, fascinated...until he hears anyone else coming by.
Like a prey animal, he's likely to hurry off to cower in the nearest hiding spot, before staring in horror at the obvious tracks he's left in the snow.
Trapped – OTA
Luca is trying to be careful, staying out of sight, avoiding other people and obvious traps. Not all traps are obvious, though, and there are so many this month that he's bound to get caught at some point.
He panics when he feels the snare tighten around his leg, pulling him up. He struggles, and he wants to scream, but he doesn't dare to. He's helpless now in a place filled with people who want to hunt him. If he wrong person comes...he has no hope of survival. They'll just slaughter him right there. He has to get himself down.
He can't get himself down, he soon realizes. He can't get up to his leg. He can't do anything here. Tears well up in his eyes, and he wants to cry, but he's too terrified to be anything but silent. He'll die if anyone sees him...and he'll likely die here if they don't.

"Thank you so much! I thought I was going to die there and you saved me! You're amazing!"

He forces them to not stab Luca thankfully, even as his mind races with What is he doing? Is he trying to attack me? Suspicious, suspicious, he could try to stab me here, can't let anyone get close, it's pathetic for an invader to allow any sentimental gestures of affection--
It's that last thought that manages to be what allows Zib to push down the intrusive thoughts. It's too dangerously close to something Zim would think, and even in his own paranoid state, he refuses to let Zim win. So all of the legs retract back into the PAK quietly. Zib doesn't hug Luca back or anything like that, but he at least stops being so stiff and quiet to respond proper, hoping that Luca didn't notice just how close he had been to getting attacked here.
"Y--you're welcome! It's, uh, the least I can do for a friend, right?"
no subject
"I'm just lucky you happened to be there and that I have so many friends in this place!"
no subject
He is very lucky to have anything resembling friends here, and relieved that he didn't end up nearly skewering one just now.
... Maybe he should change the subject before he thinks too hard about that.
"So, uh, what were you doing out here anyway before you got caught?"
no subject

Zib is a little surprised--not just that Luca has also been experiencing such an awful dread around here lately like he has, but that apparently he's not uncomfortable being around Zib right now. For a moment, he wonders if Luca saw any of Zib's memories like some of the other residents of Disaster House have recently and if that's the reason Luca isn't wary of him yet, but he doesn't ask. Zib doesn't want to ruin a good moment where someone isn't trying to yell at or hurt him while it lasts here.
"To be honest, I've kind of been feeling the same way? It's been... really weird and uncomfortable being around some people lately so I've just been sitting in my ship or walking around."
And building traps around his ship to keep intruders away. That too.
no subject
Was Zib there for that? It doesn't matter.
"Because I kept wanting to sneak around and avoid asking people to make me food, so I ended up just eating random ingredients. Several people saw me doing that and made me food anyway, but...I still was nervous about interacting with people."
Luca can feed himself just fine when he's in the sea, but on land...he really doesn't know how to prepare surface foods.
no subject
"A vileblood thing, huh... that would make sense then, for it to be affecting both of us while everyone else is acting... different in other ways."
Is it really that simple? Just a weird quirk of this place rather than just his friends here finally seeing him as a threat? It's hard to believe, given the depths of Zib's self loathing, that it might just resolve itself eventually like the food problem did, but... he can't really bring himself to say as much in front of Luca yet. Luca might get upset and find fault in Zib too, and he can't allow that. Still...
"Then... maybe we should just wait it out somewhere? I mean, unlike the poison stuff, I'm not sure what you would do to fix this kind of thing until it blows over..."
no subject
Because Dib's spaceship is amazing anyway, so he'd always love to hang out in it, but also because it seems fairly isolated and safe.
"And if we hang out there, maybe you can explain how it works! If you want to. Because I think your ship is really cool."
no subject
"Yeah, alright. Come with me... and um, watch your step."
On account of the traps that might still be around here as they make their way back toward the ship. It's still in need of repair since it's crash into the woods a few weeks ago, but it is still structurally sound enough that they will be safe inside. He carefully deactivates some traps he had set around the door before opening it and gesturing for Luca to hop in.
It's pretty small, clearly made with only having maybe two people max moving around comfortably inside, but there's a chair Luca can sit in alongside Zib here and get a good look at the control panel and their surroundings outside the window.
"What do you think so far?"
no subject
"It...it's amazing!" He looks at the control panel. "How does all this work?"
no subject
These buttons and levers you see here control the ship to make it move and do all other sorts of things. Like this one--[He points to some button nearby]--will get the ship to scan our nearby surroundings to try to detect any people or animals that might be close to us.
no subject
[A good idea for security and just marveling at how cool all of this is.]
Do you think you'd be able to teach me how to fly this someday? Or do repairs on it? Or both?
[He wants to learn how to fly and build a functioning spaceship!]
no subject
[He pushes the button, and an automated voice suddenly boots up.]
"Initiating life form scan. Starting first with heat signatures."
[The ship then pulls up a screen in front of them on the windshield, with a gauge indicating that it's about 40% from completion of scan. The picture on the screen does seem to be indicating something so far, but whatever it is that's giving off heat, it's pretty small. Like a bird or a rabbit, maybe.
While they are waiting for a complete scan, Zib responds to Luca's question--]
Possibly! I mean, if I was able to learn this kind of stuff, then I'm sure you can too with enough studying and hard work.
no subject
[He says as he watches it work, picking up on even tiny creatures. This is amazing.]
I'm sure I can, too! It'll just take time! Probably a bit more time than you, because you have so much more experience than me and I've only just recently learned about space and stuff, but I'm sure I can learn eventually!
no subject
[The scanner seems to finish, and it comes back with the result that indeed, it's mostly birds and deer, and maybe a rabbit in the immediate area. The robotic voice then indicates it's doing another scan using motion detection for anything that doesn't give off a heat signature, and while it does that...]
These other buttons are what will get it to fly, or, in the event of meeting a threat of some kind, can shoot lasers! [A pause] Probably not a good idea to push that here though, I don't want to accidentally knock any trees over right near us.
no subject
[Or have a tree fall on them. Either would be unfortunate.]
I'd love to learn how to fly this, though. And to...well, I'd like to learn how to make this do everything it can do.
[Lasers, scanning, flying, fixing and maintaining it so it can continue to do those things...it's all amazing to him.]
