Ryunosuke finds himself staring at Manabu, silent for a moment, mouth agape despite nearly being barreled over by the other. He was here? Willing here in Willful Machine? He figured after what he had said that he might have avoided it for some time but here he was. Maybe he shouldn't have stopped texting him (worried that he would just piss him off further) but part of him wondered if Manabu would even want to see him ever again. It's only been a few weeks since their fight but it felt like ages and he missed his friend despite it all.]
Manabu. [His breath hitches just seeing him. He starts, then stops, then starts again.] What are you-- why are you-- Are you all right? [He asks, looking him over to make sure that he was steady on his feet.
He should have asked that a few weeks ago when Kazuma ran into him, and he winces a little thinking about that conversation, about his lack of action when it came to what transpired from their meeting. What could have gotten into them that made them fight the way they did?]
no subject
[did Manabu somehow will him into popping up all of a sudden, or what? he gawks in surprise, mouth agape for a beat before words start to make sense again. alright? wait, no, hang on--]
Wait! Wait, no, ha-hang on! Uh--here. [he shoves the soup pot at Ryunosuke.] Hold this a second! [it's not hot.
once it's out of his hands, Manabu takes a step away, arms at his sides as he bows low, speaking loudly in the direction of the ground.]
I-I'm sorry! Really! I don't...have any good excuses for what I did or why. Even now, I don't know, but...it was uncalled for, and I'm sorry. Please let me make it up to you-!
no subject
No! No, I should be the one apologizing. [He blurts out, wishing he didn't have his hands full at the moment.] Really I shouldn't have said those things and I'm so sorry.
Please, I should be the one making it up to you.
[Because words could cut deep and he isn't sure how deep those wounds went that day.]
no subject
Huh-? [blinkblink.] Wh, no, no! It--I mean, [okay, yeah, digging on him about going off and dying did hurt, but--] it wasn't like...you were pushing me around? Like I was? So--so it's different! So please--
[pointing at the pot:] At least that! Please. I, I wanted to...to at least...do this much, you know?
[because if Ryunosuke actually takes a second to look - or maybe just a quick whiff - he may recognize ramen soup stock in there.]
no subject
It takes him a moment to register the smell but as he looks down at the soup pot it finally sinks in. He looks between Manabu and the soup pot before he finds himself smiling.]
Did you-- You made this? [He asks quietly, surprised by it all. He hadn't even thought about trying to make a soup stock here, let alone one for ramen.] Manabu you... you didn't have to.
[A pause.]
Thank you. ...I'm still sorry for what I've said.
no subject
Uh, mm... Y-you mentioned before...a few dishes that sound a lot like...what I know. And I found enough stuff on those beached ships and...trading around for close-enough stuff, I think I can...make a pretty good approximation of tsukemen? If that's okay. That is-! I, I was just as prepared to just...drop it off and let you do whatever with it, but... I do...have a good idea of how to make it work, so...
no subject
Do you really think you can make tsukemen? [There's excitement in his voice.] It would be nice to actually... share this with you. If you have an idea of how to make it work, that is.
[Maybe they could make up for lost time from their surreal fighting.]
no subject
Ye-yeah! [he pats his satchel.] I mean, I wasn't able to find any nori, but I found some substitutes and a little meat? So it should go alright. Just need a stove and somewhere to serve it, you know?
no subject
I'm sure we'll make it work. Come on. You can tell me what you've been up to since... well you can tell me what you've been up to these last few weeks.
[He motions for Manabu to follow him, turning back the way he came.]
no subject
Aa, oh, um...we'll figure it out, yeah? [broth in a mug? not weird. still usable.] And...uh. I mean-- [his eyes wince as he hastens and falls into step at Ryunosuke's side. a little vapor billows and starts to trail along before Magnet reforms, barking and rushing to catch up to the both of them.] I, I don't know what good I can share. It wasn't like...that was an isolated incident, you know.
But I guess...the solstice was okay...
no subject
[He smiles as Magnet barks and rushes to catch up to them. It was nice to see the little dog again, and he missed him, strangely enough. Was it strange to miss an Omen? He still was getting used to summoning his, after all.]
At least the solstice was okay.
no subject
is that something you would want?
Manabu's heart skips a beat unexpectedly, and his face flushes hot before the feeling's gone again.
hastily, to catch up for that awkward, missed beat:] Ye-yeah! Yeah, ah, Wu and Mako...they made one helluva spread. Lots of Sleepers I didn't know were there. Just goes to show how popular they are, you know?
Guess it helps when you're running a place like that...
no subject
[Goes to show that Trench couldn't really break them, now could it? It could do some strange things, make them fear for their lives, but those he's met so far have been rather strong individuals.]
Which I think says a lot about them. [He still hadn't really met Wu, but he's talked with Mako a handful of times now.]
Did you meet anyone new?
no subject
That kinda question...that's what Wu's always asking me, you know! [w-wait--] You're not in cahoots with him on that, are you?
no subject
[The more he hears about him though, the more he's curious about how they'll finally meet considering they were both friends of Manabu.]
no subject
You've got more of an excuse than I do, though! You're new!
[bark.]
...New-er.
no subject
[Right?]
It's all right if you haven't, you know. [He sighs a little, adjusting the pot in his hands as they round a corner.]
no subject
wait--] Uoh, here, gi-give me that. I should be carrying it! [gimme. pot, giv.]
no subject
[He blinks before he awkwardly offers him the pot.]
Are you sure? I don't mind carrying it.
no subject
It's fine! I brought it, so I should be the one carrying it, right? [something something polite guest rules or...something. look. look, let him have this, he's like the dog that follows them: only happy when he's doing a good job on a task.]
Besides, you gotta open up doors and stuff, so this saves you time.
no subject
[He did have a point. He doesn't argue as the pot is taken out of his hands.]
All right, thank you. [He glances around quickly before he points a little further up the street.] It's not too much farther. You're welcome to visit any time if you're in the area.
no subject
So you found a place that's not too run down, huh? Or is it another fixer-upper. This place is loaded with that...
no subject
[Which says a lot really, but he's only seen a few and they also needed some help outside of Mr. Sholmes' home.]
I'm not that handy, so we'll see how much work I can manage on my own. [He stops a door, pushing it open as he leads him down a hall to a set of stairs.] It could be much worse, I'm sure.
no subject
while catching up:] I bet I can help! I been figuring out a lot of this stuff out on side jobs. Got some extra materials, too.
no subject
Up the stairs, to the first door on the right, he opens the door and holds it open for Manabu to move through.]
Here we are. It's... nothing much but I suppose I can call it home while I'm here in Trench.
[The accommodations are rather sparse. There's at least a couch and a table, a few chairs, but nothing that would scream anything 'homey'. Nothing quite so personal except for the katana sitting across the mantel. Which if he's honest, he has no idea where to really store Karuma. The front room could use some help - broken floorboards and wall panels aside, but Ryunosuke is at least right: it wasn't quite cold thanks to the heat from the stove in the attached kitchen.]
