[Perell nodded sagely, torn between his own complex feelings on the matter. There was hurt and bitterness there... born from affections that ran deep.]
I know the man who created it. He's a pompous ass-- but, don't tell Vyng and the others that I said this-- he really was a brilliant craftsman.

[Man. He really barely got to bring anything with him.]
'Course, the whole house is something from the dream. It was just sort of there when I got here. All the furniture and everything.

[Which wasn't long ago for him-- but, he had been separated from them for weeks, and he had no idea what had happened in the interim. Given his own trials, and what he knew was kept inside that tent, he could only assume the worst.]
It's not common at all back home. Not for the last several decades, at least. That's part of the price everyone paid after the Exodus.
[A shrug. He was trying to act nonchalant, but it was clear that he was trying too hard to seem casual about it. This was a touchy subject.]

[Michael's not always the most socially aware, but he's picking up on these vibes. And yeah, now he's curious about this Exodus - most of what he knows about Vyng's world is just about Vyng's personal past. But maybe he just shouldn't ask.]
Well! Were you looking for anything else here? I know the market pretty well - honestly, they should really be more willing to bargain with new Sleepers, they all know how it is.

He was already feeling vulnerable. That level of vulnerability was too much.]
Some people just like to take advantage of the newbies. [Perell shrugged.] Besides the basics, like clothes and getting my bearings, I think we're good.
...Is there anything you wanted me to bring back to the house?
[It was only polite to ask!]

[Well, you probably could, but there's other Architects who can do the same. It seemed better to specialize and become known for one thing.]
But no, no. I'm not really the guy to ask about groceries. [All he buys is raw meat in bulk, and he'll get that himself!]
no subject
[Which was where boundaries were helpful-- something everyone needed to learn at some point in their lives.
He did, however, chuckle.]
... Do I look like someone who spends a lot of time in the kitchen? Cooking is fun to try, but it's never been a specialty. But, you don't need to know how to cook to cut a loaf of bread.

[Like, if we institute a weekly housemate dinner or something, he's there! But non-socially? Nah, there's no point.]
The only thing I really keep track of is Eleanor's food, and I keep that in a separate meat freezer.

1) Don't fuck with denizens of the Outer Dark-- the plane beyond the mortal realms, where demons and the like dwelled.
2) Under no circumstances is it ever a good idea to break the heart of Tachoma Dhaume.]
I see... [He drawled, pondering what this meant.] That sounds very efficient. There must be plenty of people who envy that.
But, your Eleanor must have quite the appetite if you have a freezer dedicated to her needs. That's impressive.

[Shrug! Michael doesn't think about it most of the time; it's just a fact of his life. But there's been times when resources were scarce, and then...yeah, it can be useful.]
Well, she's very large. And the hunting's nowhere near as good around here as it was in the dream. Can't really eat the Beasts.
sorry for the delay!
[He was nodding, though. This all made sense on a rational level.]
Well, then. Thanks, Michael. For helping me back there.
np!
[Like, not even (solely) shilling for himself! The drab vs. looking halfway decent divide is kinda stark around here.]
