[ He shifts the guitar over his back, strap around his chest. ]
I thought I'd be rusty, but it's like riding a bike.

[Her brow furrows a little bit, her eyes flicking back and forth, trying to understand.
She fails.]
I...I don't think so. I mean, Deerington gave me a bike and...it doesn't make any music.
[Does she know how to ride it? No, she does not.]
no subject
I just mean it was easy to pick it back up again. It's been really good for me, I think.

[She'll have to make a note to ask him about bike-riding later.
For now, she's just going to enjoy this glow all around him.]
What was that song you were singing?
no subject
It's called 'The Weight', a song by a band called...well. [ snort. ]
The band name is literally 'The Band'. Not very clever, I know.
no subject
Well, at least they're very clear about what they are.
...who's Fanny, though?
no subject
Uh, well. There's actually a lot of debate about what the song actually means. There's a lot of biblical subtext, but the band members deny it's religious. I don't think anyone actually knows.
no subject
[A pause. It's inevitable.]
What does "biblical" mean?
[At least she knows 'subtext,' right?]
no subject
[ At least. ]
Remember how I told you about the religion stuff in my world? All the Christianity crap? It's based off a book called the bible.
no subject
[Valerian religion has a holy book too.]
So you're saying the song...pays homage to this book?
no subject
Not...exactly. More like, it has subtle references, enough that it's kept people guessing over the years.
no subject
[A little pause.]
Are any of those references to angels?
no subject
[ It's got a lot of different references but. ]
Why?
no subject
[A neutral tone. She's not implying anything, just stating matter of fact.
At first.
But a little bit of sadness creeps into the corners of her eyes, remembering the way Castiel just...sent her away.]
no subject
There's a couple other ones I had in mind, [ he admits, shifting the guitar in his grip. ]
There's one by The Black Crows I really like.
no subject
[She steps back, holding her palms out to him.
There's no one else performing. The stage is waiting.
And Ariadne doesn't like feeling sad.]
no subject
It's not quite sappy and romantic, but he likes it anyway. ]
no subject
Does she understand it? No, not really.
But what she does appreciate--fully and completely--is Dean's musicianship. He's really quite talented. Especially considering...well. Everything.
When he finishes, she joins everyone in giving him a warm round of applause.]

[ It's a hidden talent, and one he doesn't really showcase. It's not...well. He wouldn't say it isn't something he's proud of, because he kind of is, but it isn't something he advertises. He's always been shy, singing loud and obnoxious with Sam around because he doesn't want to get made fun of for enjoying something girly like singing.
He hops back off the stage and heads back over to their pillows, and flops down. ]

[She used to watch the ladies of the court practicing the harp and piano, playing mechanically. Passionless. Just to prove they could follow a set of directions, or something.]
no subject
[ His cheeks flush with pleasure, color crawling down his neck. It's nice to be complimented every now and then. ]
no subject
[And that's saying something, because it tends to feel like she doesn't know much of anything.]
