Yeah, I don't think so.

[ It's a big beast, that minotaur. Dean hasn't ever fought one before, but he's heard of them. They're usually from Greece, and myth differs on how they're killed, but Dean reckons it's got blood running through its veins like any other monster, which means there's a way to dispose of it.

For now, to give him a moment to think, he throws up the shield he's figured out how to use, grunting in effort when the minotaur slams itself right into the shimmering green haze, enraged meaty fists hammering down. ]

Any bright ideas, kid?

[Luca cringes when the axe comes down...and lets out a sigh of relief when a shimmering shield appears, protecting Dean from the Minotaur's attack. Does he have any bright ideas?]

Um...no. My usual strategy when I'm attacked by scary things with big weapons is usually 'run and hide', but that doesn't seem to be an option here.

[Sure, the 'scary things' in his experience were usually humans, but he figures surviving an attack between a human with a harpoon and a minotaur with an axe is pretty much the same.]

No, it doesn't. Stay behind me.

[ What had he been thinking, God, Dean. Did you think you had a little Power Ranger or someone from the midget X-Men here?

Definitely not. He's just a kid, so Dean will throw his ass out and fight a friggin minotaur, because that's the kind of person he is.

It's not gonna be the prettiest of battles; Dean doesn't have a weapon handy, but once he finds one in the dust from a previous fight, they're in business. A battleaxe, frickin' sweet.

He gets thrown around - a lot, and for a normal person that isn't a vileblood or Dean freakin' Winchester, there'd be broken bones, probably a concussion. Maybe death, who knows. But because it's Dean and because he's used to this, he manages to jump up behind the thing, and chop it's damn head off, letting it roll to the feet of the kid while Dean rides the body down like a surfboard.

Fuck yeah. ]

[The head rolls to Luca's feet and he screams, frantically racing back away from the head before tripping and falling over his own feet. As he slams down onto the ground, his hand lands in something...wet. Not sure if it's water from earlier rains or some kind of creature's blood from an earlier fight, Luca screams again. Whatever it is, it's close enough to water that scales rise up on his hand and webbing grows between his fingers. Luca looks down at his hand and, in a panic, desperately tries wiping it off so it will change back before looking up at Dean nervously. He hopes Dean's okay with sea monsters.]

[ Luca screams, Dean screams, the crowd screams.

There a frickin little -- sea monster in front of him where the kid had been and Dean is staring in mild horror and curiosity as he clutches his blood soaked battle axe. ]

What the hell?!

[schoolingfish]

[When Luca sees Dean's reaction, he scrambles back, terrified. It doesn't help that at the back of his mind, his vileblood nature is telling him all this minotaur blood smells great. He doesn't even want to think about that no matter the circumstances, but giving into it now might make him seem even more like a monster and then he'd definitely get killed.]

I know, I know, I'm a sea monster, don't kill me!

[In what's clearly the same panicked voice as the kid from before, at least.]

Sorry!

[ He drops the axe, holds up his bloodied hands, realizing a little too late that that probably...isn't a lot better. ]

A sea what--what the hell?

[ CHILD WAT R U ]

[The bloody hands are gross...but actually way better, since dropping the axe makes it very clear that Dean wasn't going to try and slay a second monster.]

A sea monster. We turn human when we're dry, we change back when...and I fell in some...I think it's water...mixed with blood...and stuff.

[Stuff he does not want to think about.]

I...really need to get cleaned off. You killed the thing, does that mean they'll let us leave?

[Because Luca really, really wants to get washed off now.]

What the hell.

[ Every hunter instinct screams to finish the job, but it's a kid. Jesus Christ. ]

Oh, they're gonna let us leave. C'mon.

[ He's taking his damn axe with him, though. That's his now. ]

[Luca scrambles to his feet, following behind Dean and hoping he'll be able to follow through on that. He's a little nervous about the axe, but since Dean hasn't shown any inclination to kill him yet, Luca figures he's probably fine. As the filth he landed in begins to dry, his scales begin to recede, becoming skin again.]

Thanks for saving me. I really don't think I'd win in a fight against...well, anything.

[venatoris]

Well, that's kinda what I do.

[ Is it, Dean? You sure weren't doing a great job of that back home. ]

Save people, hunt evil monsters. [ He reiterates, though it's mostly for himself. ] It was the family business.

[schoolingfish]

And you make sure of the evil part, right?

[Luca asks, as he continues to become more human.]

A lot of people hunted us back home, but sea monsters aren't really dangerous. We mostly just stay underwater and farm fish and seaweed. I'm pretty new to being on land, but I've always been curious about it!

[And now he's learning a lot more than he ever expected. He just wishes there was less learning of horrifying things mixed in.]

[venatoris]

Yeah, course.

[ Usually. ]

Sounds exciting. This way. [ They won their fight, satisfied bloodsport, and Dean is forcing his way out of the arena, stomping right through the bloody gate. ]

Well, this must be one hell of an icebreaker for you.

[schoolingfish]

Yeah...

[He follows Dean through the gate, close behind to make sure they can't try to trap him inside without Dean.]

Between this and the river, a lot of stuff here has been a lot more than I really planned on for the whole 'exploring the world out of the sea' thing.
