River of Regret cw: teenage corpses

[Maul growls with his usual anger. He's got a ton of corpses on the shorelines, most of them people he'd killed with his own two hands. So many teenagers from the massacre he'd committed at the Orsis Academy, including the first girl he'd ever had a crush on. Some corpses from Deerington like Varian, Usagi, Ben, and Varian. And some of them were those that had died and he merely blamed himself for their deaths, like his brother Savage and mother Talzin. Even Darth Sidious is up there given how complicated Maul's relationship has always been with him.

He shakes Chuck none-too-gently by the shoulder, trying to get him to sit up.]

Come on. You can't lie there forever.

[ Jesus Christ, the bodies...hundreds of them. People that were billed as 'collateral' during kaiju battles, the ones who couldn't get out, couldn't evacuate cities, the ones trapped in buildings that Striker smashed into, suffocating, dying.

His mother, his school friends.

And, you know. Maul's trauma, jesus, dude. Maul has precisely 0 chill. ]

[Nope, zero chill is very correct for Maul. He goes at one-hundred miles an hour at all time.]

[Maul says in a frank, simple manner. He's not going to coddle Chuck because he knows damn well the man is stronger than that. Lying on the bottom of the canoe isn't going to solve any of their problems right now.]

It appears this place wants us to go through more group therapy or friendship building or whatever it is they like to do torturing us under the guise of making us grow emotionally. So. [He takes a deep breath, closes his eyes, and lets himself be centered in the Dark Side of the Force.] Do you want to start or shall I?

[ It's true, he's not. And, well -- shit. Coming from Maul, that's a helluva compliment, so he works to drag himself up, straighten his spine, because you don't just ignore a sith-lord complimenting you, y'know. ]

[He points to the pudgy form of a young teenager, Ben Hanscom, who has the mark of a lightsaber having been run through him.]

His name was Ben. I trained him for a long time in Deerington. He had nothing to offer me in exchange but kindness yet that was enough for me. He kept insisting that he saw good in me even when I didn't see it myself. I repaid him by killing him when I was brainwashed....and he didn't revive. I never got the chance to tell him how sorry I was.

[The anguish in Maul's voice is clear. Out of all the deaths he caused in Deerington, he regrets none more than that particular one.]

[ That's pretty fucked up - though it doesn't sound like Maul did it on purpose, so Chuck awkwardly pats his shoulder, more a tap than anything else, cause. Yikes. ]

[Maul accepts the pat on the shoulder just as awkwardly as Chuck offers it, not really one much for physical acts of comfort. His eyes stay fixed on the sad little figure of Ben, eyes unseeing with the lightsaber mark upon his chest.]

Yes. It very much is. [Then he straightens himself up as if pushing away the regret and sadness that was threatening to envelope him.] Alright, your turn.
