What: An intentional family-and-friends roadtrip to a forbidden holy ruin. A less-intentional catacombs adventure.

Where: Sleepy Town and the Catacombs.

Yes. All three of them.

[A tired nod. There were others, of course, but Perell suspected they might be dead...]

That's not a bad thing-- but don't waste your time with that. I can make my own introductions later.

[Because, you know, a skinny nerd with big glasses who looked like a reject from the Indiana Jones School of Fashion was completely able to make his own friends when projectile toy frogs weren't involved.]

[ God very kindly does not object. He nods as though this is totally believable, and sips his own warm drink. ]

They settling in well, then? I was the first of my crew to make it here.

[ Crew like gang but also crew like I fished them up on a pirate ship and made them sail around. Normal stuff. ]

The one of them, Billie, is learning to fight from that one teacher in town-- Johnny, the young one who speaks rough but seems honest. Tuck and Vyng are... Themselves.

[a shrug.]

Those two were in the Dream that broke. I'm honestly surprised anyone made it out.

I've met him. Some of my kids are taking lessons, too.

[ He gives the smile of a man trying to keep a straight face. ]

I don't know many folks who came through that, barring our local experts. Sounds like Trench is calm by comparison.

Oh? You didn't strike me as a fatherly type.

[This wasn't an insult. Anyone who spent too much time in the archives researching blood magic was terrible material to be a father-- Perell himself included.

He shrugged.]

I wouldn't get too judgey about this place. The winds are always the calmest before a storm.

I seem a little young for it, right?

[ He thinks he is very, very funny. ]

You may have a point there. If there's a pattern, I haven't found it yet.

You do look significantly younger than three thousand years,

[He commented, sipping at his tea and not realizing that this was more complimentary than he had guessed.]

Regardless, I'm planning to keep my eyes open. And, uh, hopefully get myself better prepared.
