[ As it happens, God is good at receiving confessions. Or maybe he likes drama. He looks engaged and sympathetic by turns; impressed by the fucked-up teenage tangle of it all; he raises his glass to that last, absurd statement. ]

So you're the confidant who's off the team, on both sides of the equation. And now you're saddled with a roommate when you would've rather stuck it out on your own?

[She almost wants to cover up her loneliness with more bullshit and just say yes, she definitely prefers to be alone, she's always been alone.]

...Nah, it's nice having her around. She's nice. Just wish I didn't feel like the rope in the tug of war that is their relationship at the moment.

[ He cracks a smile. It's real, warm. He didn't think she'd get even that far. ]

[ He does not elaborate. Just raises his mug like a toast, and says: ]
