"What did you do back there"
Kill. It's what I had to do.]
It's a cursed technique that was passed down through my bloodline.
[There is a sober quality to his voice.
When he hears these words out loud, a very real realization hits him. He's never had anyone, here in the Trench, ask him about himself, nor has he divulged any personal information to anyone. Sure he's interacted with quite a few different faces in a variety of circumstances but never more than formalities before returning to his campsite.
Having a habit of being secretive because it feels so safe but at the same time extremely isolating. Aware of the fact that it stunts growth. Constantly setting up barriers in an effort to avoid making different connections for fear of being hurt or worse losing them. It's a tiring endeavor.
That familiar emotion
lonelinesspings Kage who has never left the huntsman's body. Her motherly instincts kick into gear. The she wolf looks up at Shouto, two large moon eyes holding a hint of melancholy before gently going over to Megumi's side.Met by a warm pink tongue on his cheek followed by a nudging muzzle to his arm. She's always there for him especially in these moments. This is her way of expressing comfort. And it doesn't go unnoticed. Megumi pushes his face into her thick plush coat before finally turning his head towards Shouto. ]
I'm a shaman... [he hesitates can i really trust...] and what I just used is shadow sorcery.

A cursed technique... passed down through his bloodline. Like his mother's ice and his father's fire. Only, it doesn't change. The image of Midoriya comes to mind. One for All. All-Might's quirk passed down to his friend, unchanged. Viewed through a familiar lens he begins to understand.
The wolf turns to him, and Shouto finds himself staring into two large moon eyes so different from his omen, yet it feels familiar. He watches the wolf go to Megumi's side, offering comfort the same way Kizu sometimes did and sees the easy way he accepts it before turning to him.
Originating from a completely different world, the admission doesn't hold the same impact as he feels it should. He's missing context. Still, he knows it's important. Otherwise, Megumi wouldn't have reacted the way he did. Decapitation (he still shudders at the image of that head rolling on the ground) followed by a violent reaction against the very act. He doesn't need context to understand that. He hated his own fire for years loathed to hold the same quirk as his father... only it wasn't the same. ]
You don't like it... Do you?

His lips flatline as his head shakes from side to side. ]
No.. not always. But it's selfish to think about what you like when people's lives depend on you.
[Eyes wonder back towards the ground as if lost in thought. Subconsciously continuing to pet Kage who hasn't taken her eyes off of his face.
A young girl no more then seven years old appears behind his eyes. Her smile is so angelic and pure, exuding an aura of goodness. There's not a mean bone in her body.
Will Tsumiki be happy? My answer depends on that.
[She will] Absolutely not.
A quick head nod confirming he does in fact still believe that good people need to be saved. Looking back up to his ally.]
It's my responsibility to fight for those who can't protect themselves, and something I take very seriously.
[The conviction in his voice and statment is a testament to his resolve, yet his eyes contine to betray him, holding on to mixed emotions that are still being processed.)

He'd grown since then. Takes his goal of becoming a Pro-Hero seriously, growing stronger in both mind and body. He still struggles with himself. Trying to separate his quirk from his father. His mother. Not quite able to make it his own. Even so, he's only ever used his powers to incapacitate. Killing... killing is not what heroes do. ]
Megumi...
[ Said from behind, quiet and solemn. ]
You don't have to do it all on your own.

People get hurt when you depend on them and it's not something I want to see, again. It's selfish, I know, but at least I can protect people by not getting them involved in the first place.
[The words seem to tumble out of his mouth before he can take them back. It feels so unusual to him as someone who is used to censoring so much of what he says. Always composed and never wanting to give too much away. Blocking his feelings in order to protect himself and more importantly others.]
Have you seen someone you wanted to protect be killed in front of you? [ His eyes widen and he stops abruptly realizing just how much he has already said. He can't help but answer his own question within his mind, and again with another quick short shake of his head as if the very act could erase those memories.
His voice is much lower than a moment before .]
You never sleep after that, the guilt constantly plagues your mind. It's suffocating.

When you boil it down, it's the same situation as Midoriya. Maybe not on the same scale, but the thought process behind it is far too familiar for someone who arrived in Trench having just found out his friend's secrets. ]
I think... they would understand your motivations, but the people who are close to you... your friends and teammates... you'll only end up hurting them.
It's selfish... putting your feelings over theirs.
[ He looks up at the canopy as shades of green of every kind reach for the sunlight. He's reminded of Midoriya. ]
But... I think they'll forgive you. If you give them the chance.
[ Still naive of the horrors of the world, the question makes him stiffen when posed to him. The death of a loved one... he thinks of Touya and rejects the idea so swiftly, he loses his breath. ]
... No.
[ Said in a quiet, sad tone before he looks up at him. Really looks. Watching him cling to his omen for support... same as him. His feet start moving then. One step. Two. On the third, he's at his side, hand reaching for his in silent support. ]
You're suffocating.
1/2 I wanted to have him interject before addressing the end part I hope that makes sense 😅
That's not it ... He stops petting Kage]
Forgiveness is not important to me, it's just an ideal that good people use to let terrible individuals get away with shit while making themselves feel good for "doing the right thing"- I can't stand it actually.
[His tone is quick and elevated but not angry.
Pausing not wanting to push Shouto away but also feeling the need to be understood. He starts to pet Kage once more. His voice returns back to a his normal neutral state.]
The people I cared for are no longer with me [ thank god]. But as I make my way through this hell, and find new allies and maybe even friends [looking over at Shouto who's head is fixed on the jungle canopy] , I can't bear to watch them be killed. I will do everything in my power to prevent that from happening, even if they hate me for it.

--'No'
It isn't the answer that catches his attention, but the sadness- it's indicative of an response with a face in mind. No one poised with that question can truthfully answer it without thinking of someone in particular. Even before he asked, he too had someone in mind. Beginning to slip back into thought, he is presented with a hand. His eyes trace the length of the arm before landing on two mismatched eyes.
'You're suffocating'
Two tired eyes widen as the words register. Taking a deep breath and exhaling. Sitting in silence for a moment. He may not fully understand but he's right
Feeling emotionally exposed and yet at the same time a small sense of building relief. It's the feeling of being heard.
Slowly letting go of Kage, and taking Shouto's hand pulling himself up to his feet. His legs shake a bit at first. damn, too much cursed energy As he gets his bearings he casts his eyes to the ground]
You're right. [before looking back up] It's something I'm still figuring out.

[ He answers in turn, voice smooth. Neutral. Eyes trained on him. He thinks of Iida fighting alongside him and Midoriya. How they supported each other against the Hero Killer, Stain. Neither of them was strong enough to take him on alone, but together they managed to defeat a villain that had killed over a dozen Pro-Heroes.
How many exercises had Class-A completed together? Figuring out new and inventive ways to use their quirks along the way. The joy of working together. Supporting each other. Stepping into roles that best suited their quirks rather than their egos. ]
Or a teammate.
[ Eyes trained on him, hand outstretched, he offers him a hand.
You're suffocating.
He lets the words sink in, patient in his offer. His fingers grip his firmly when it's taken and he helps him back to his feet. ]
If it were easy, you wouldn't be in this state.
I sent you a quick email about this one!
On his feet, his eyes wander towards the decapitated corpse. On the hunter's belt a menagerie of various appendages seem to lay motionless. The horn. His lips tighten as swirls of thick cursed energy grip on to the air, hanging over the blood still pooling from the neck. Tiny ugly curses skitter about polluting the near by area. Each of their beady eyes seem to stare at him before wildly moving in another direction. Kage abruptly rushes past the two and begins sniffing and investigating.]
Something's wrong. [He points in the direction of the huntsman.
Lifting one leg up feels like lead, as it sinks back into the Earth but he manages to approach the body. As he gets closer the voices begin to flare up whispering once more in his ear.
He's still alive, Kill him, Kill him!Find his head!!
A gust of curse energy sends his hair whipping upwards. As an icy hand grips his ankle. Immediately pulling away causes the torso to shoot up like a jack in the box perpendicular to the ground. What the fuck, hows it not dead?! ]
It's trying to heal. Where's the head?!
[The top portion of his neck seems to have a netting of skin growing over the circumference. The abomination attempts to heal itself just enough to move more effectively again.]
I saw thanks!
Kizu steps in front of him when the voices of the dead start to pick up, both turning to Megumi feeling a strange aura of power emanating from him. Did he see something?
Where's the head?!
Kizu gears into action disappearing into the forest where the head had bounced off. Shouto, in turn, steps swiftly down on the ground, and a burst of ice snaps forward, encasing the body in a bed of ice. ]
We separate them.

We separate them
Megumi gives a small nod in agreement.Pointing down at the glacier-locked headless figure. ]
That's not a normal spell. Who or whatever created him is powerful and extremely twisted. [What could actually be capable of this? And what if its intent goes further then just killing. The area is covered in negative energy. It's a breeding ground for curses and a giant pool of blood pollution, which leads to a higher chance of severe corruption... But there is no time for that now, he must continue to concentrate on the task at hand. ]
I'll go after the head, [Summoning the next creature will use up the rest of his cursed energy. But it's well worth it to bring some relief to those who were unjustly wronged and more importantly safety to those who may find themselves in this miserable place in the future. Interlocking both thumbs while spreading his fingers in order to cast a winged shadowling. Dark feathers scatter and whirl up a tiny tornado of dust revealing a large bird creature.]
Nue!
[With one swoop of its majestic wing, a blue charge of lightning shoots out incinerating the existing small flyhead curses that had been drawn into the corrupted area.]

I'll take care of the body.
[ He says in turn, acknowledging the plan and stating his part in it, coordinating with his teammate. There's nothing left to say after that and he starts generating a line of ice that uses to 'snowboard' to the captured body's side. Feet unmoving, Todoroki uses subtle movement to balance himself on the ever generating ice coming from the bottom of his feet. A surge of ice takes the frozen body (caught in an ice block) and he takes off away from Megumi. Trusting his teammate to deal with the head.
Before he leaves he catches sight of a large owl-like creature emerge from him reminding him of both Tokoyami and Hawks. It's enough to snowball into a painful ache that makes his ice stutter for a second before he reminds himself he has a job to do and keeps on moving on a trail of ice that takes him and the body away from Megumi and the head.
He covers a great distance in a short amount of time. When he looks back, his ice disappears between the trees, Megumi went, and keeps moving. It's not until he breaks out of the jungle and moves even further that he spots the quicksand and a plan rapidly starts to form. He heads for it and upon reaching it, he drops the frozen block into it. He waits until the sand slowly devours the frozen figure with a set, neutral, expression, and when the sand swallows the whole, he turns around to go back. ]
