He pauses, unsure of how to phrase it and uncomfortable putting it into words, and the lapse drags on long enough to be awkward but he's pretty sure Fern knows what he means, so he moves on. "I don't remember a lot of what happened, but. I'm pretty sure it helped. A lot."
