Important to modify the moves. I wish to test the bracelet I've produced today as well. It should not impact my durability, so you can use our last strife as a guide. I want to test how much my fistkinds are reduced in the course of sparring.

[And, frankly? He felt like this one was more of a clear head on his shoulders than many when it came to this kind and type of training. They wouldn't need to spar long, but it would be a way for both to test out how they managed to keep their powers in control.]

"--Ah! Zahhak-kun, I didn't see you--I mean, it's nice to see you!"

It is nice to see him, truly, but Midoriya was caught off guard during one of his muttering fixations. Again.

"No, give it your best shot. No point testing under anything but the conditions they'll be under for your match. This is why I'm perfect for this."

Even if he gets hurt, he's not afraid. He stands and leaves his notebook with his backpack. But first:

"Cool..." This nerd can't resist ogling a piece of tech someone has crafted with their two hands.

Mmm? Oh yes. Some addressed via their family names didn't they. He grunted back at Izuku and nodded to him. "Equius is fine, if you would prefer," he said, affixing the bracelet. It looked like a gold half-bracer affixed to his forearms, with a large garnet on it. He showed it off for him. "This is designed based upon the bracelet that was used to control our powers in Asgard. It was also our communication device, though I haven't affixed my omni to it. I am thinking of it, though."

Old habits died hard, and he was kind of used to talking to people with a wrist-mounted communicator, really. "I am unsure how well it will work, given that the being it is connected to is not present, but I was able to acquire some warmblood in a bloodstone. I am hoping that the impact will be similar."

"Ah, uh, well, it's whatever you prefer... Equius-kun?" he mumbles, trying it out. Ah, the woes of culture and manners differences... He knows a lot of people around here who go by first names only, and it took getting used to.

He tilts his head this way and that, fascinated by the bracelet. Kind of gaudy, but if flashy is what Equius is going for, All Might's successor can't fault that. "Yes, I know someone who put it in their helmet so they could move hands-free. I've always kind of wondered if an earpiece or something could be made compatible..."

To Midoriya's knowledge, warmblood is lacking in the magic department. "I know warmbloods can't do blood magic, but I didn't stop to think it could have other properties..."

"Equius would be preferred, but thank you for inquiring," he grunted and nodded over at him, considering for a moment. Just in that second, the technical nerd was coming out as he pondered the quandary. "Hmmm, I suspect that we can probably adapt a creation that does what it does. After all, the omni is comprised of magically infused blood occupied of our own sleeper essence, so it is more of an extension of our capacities. So long as magic and technology can be merged, it should be feasible. It might be interesting."

"Well, this is an intentional and prepared application. I was inspired by what I saw of the zealots in the month of the Tower," He said, tapping his lips. "They have no power themselves, but we were able to fashion a lesser negation this way. I don't think a warmblood consciously can do that. It's just an enchantment that places a warmblood's limitation on me." Ironically, it blocked his duskblood ability, where in Asgard it had granted that power, but he wasn't thinking much about that.

Inspired. He draws back a little as if stung, though there is no fear in his eyes. There are instead memories of finding his friends captured and hurt in the blood-slicked slaughterhouse of the cultists in November. Chatter on the specific mechanics of the magic itself washes thin and barely audible above the pounding in his ears. Something heavy and sick knots in his stomach, but he knows better than to jump to conclusions as yet unclear.

"Where did you get this warmblood?" he asks first, quietly in a low thrum. He wouldn't ask if Equius wasn't a friend. He feels chilly. It's the cold sweat.

He wasn't empathetic enough to catch that there might have been a sudden tension there, the nervous wrestling brought on by the memory of that time. However, fortunately, his answer was about as banal as the city of Trench was capable of being. "Mmmm? Oh, it was a standard trade with the Luminarium. I donated some of my own ichor in excess of what I requested and they gave me a sample for the Architects to use that are better suited." He grunted and shrugged. "I did not want to involve my companions with something that is specifically tied to myself, at least not until I knew it worked."

He'd chatted with Blue. He didn't want Blue to be affected if there were side-effects. "That is usually how one gets blood samples, yes? Other than that foolish game and the prize given out to a few residents by the Moss King anyway, and that was not warmblood or suited for this purpose."

He's aware of the blood trade, which he always worries can turn ugly like a black market if people act in bad faith, and of blood donations. He'd have done a few himself for the purpose of saving lives, but, as with anything connected to his body, he'd always worried his Quirk might make things weird.

Logically he knows it shouldn't; One For All can only be passed on by his will. But magic is something he knows next to nothing about, since he can't do it himself. Sometimes the magic of this world doesn't play nicely with the magic a Sleeper has from their own, and he has no idea if it treats a Quirk as such.

"And the... method you copied from those people, the zealots? Are you talking about the negation of our powers?"

Oh, he was absolutely right to worry. There were bound to be 'quirks' in that system from time to time, and definitely black markets, though Equius was too blunt force to get into that sort of thing.

"Copy? Ah, no. I did not copy it so much as take inspiration from what I saw them cause to others." He shook his head. "They... are considerably more advanced, and I am unsure that I am capable of that per se."

A moment and he tapped at his lips, seeming to consider how to put this. "My own powers are Darkblooded. They are based on the construction of something from nothing. Seeing what they did, I asked about the idea of a gem of warmblood that gave a person the same effect as being warmblooded While wearing them. I am making sure there is no locking mechanism." He seemed to recognize just how bad that would be. "If they could not be removed, that would be ... not the intent of the bracers. It would be closer to manacles, and I do not see a purpose in that." Not to mention he wasn't sure how well it would work if the person wasn't voluntarily suppressing their power.

"I... see..."

There's a lot to think about here, as Equius tackles explaining this like he's solving a math problem, and Midoriya presses his mouth into a tight, apprehensive line. Equius stealing techniques from ancient Sleepers who by all rights should be his enemies is off-putting, potentially troubling, but not... inherently bad.

In fact, unlike him, Midoriya sees the purpose in power-suppressing manacles right away. The power negation he encountered in this world reminds him of Aizawa's Quirk. As ever, Midoriya sees Quirks as tools, to be used for good or ill. If such a thing worked, a hero might even use those to restrain a villain--though the profession of heroes and how they respond to villains doesn't exist here, no matter how much Midoriya might call himself by the title still.

Midoriya can't quite put his finger on what unsettles him, and he knows he's drawing on his own limited experience of things from home and here, but someone speaking so casually about the Zealots has something to do with it.

"That's not its purpose, no," he agreed. "I've encountered Quirk--uh, power suppression a few times here in this world. Are you saying that entire areas warded against powers is also due to blood magic using warmblood?"

Hmmm. They'd originally come to spar, hadn't they? But this was fascinating, because as Midoriya guessed all too astutely? It was a lot like a math problem to him. He was trying to work through it, to figure out what it was and how it ticked. He neither envied nor valued the zealots. They were simply enemies to steal tactics from and make them better, just as he was trying to appropriate techniques from a whole other world and bring them here. One more puzzle to solve, one more design hurdle.

The question made him consider for a moment before shaking his head. "I do not believe it is always the same. While the bloodstone over the entertainment district is immense, such massive enchantments seem beyond feasibility for structures. There are likely more ways to suppress powers in this world than this. this is simply localized to singular use. Like most weaponry." Only these weapons were essentially the equivalent of a practice sword, holding a person back from using full force.

"Enchantment I can comprehend from a pragmatic standpoint, but not how to produce it. What I have difficulty with is full magical application. I am unsure that I can truly determine all of the methods used in this."

They came here to spar, but Midoriya is patently a nerd. He also had to unpack a little of all this. He nods once, remembering the stone in the entertainment district of which Equius speaks.

"It would support the theory of similarity between Sleeper blood abilities and our own from home when it comes to our new physiology..."

A lot of this is unproven or unknown to him, so he trails off inconclusively. He rolls his shoulders fretfully.

"Sorry--Got carried away. I was supposed to be helping you."

"It is fine. Discussion is easy to become embroiled in when one has found a topic of sufficient fascination," he said, grunting and nodding as he considered it for a moment before going to put the bracers on.

"So, our purpose is to test these to make sure that my work here is sufficiently accurate without complexity, yes?" he said, making sure that the gauntlets were in place and settling into a stance opposite Deku. "I wish to simply verify if the strength I output is closer to a human level. Do you understand?"

Fascination, or... concern. Well, they're back to their original business now. His eyes follow the fitting of the bracers, ever conscious of others' safety, but Equius's work seems secure. Of course it would be, or Midoriya wouldn't have had him on his shortlist of mechanical engineers.

"Got it. I'll be your wall."

He smirks confidently, channeling Kirishima's friendly energy. He's a wall behind which no one will bleed, in his words. Midoriya drops into a solid stance sort of like his, arms in front ready for a grab if needed. He doesn't necessarily have to be hit head on to feel someone's strength. He activates his Quirk's Full Cowl with a small gust of wind and sparking energy, channeling super strength through his whole body.

"All right--Come at me!"

He clenched his fists, flexing and then punching the air tentatively several times. There was a familiar feeling. Oh, he knew that feeling. It already felt like his fronds were feeble things, limited to such weak potency. He hadn't felt this since Asgard. Good, good. Clenching his fists, he prepared and set himself opposite the young man, nodding once.

"Here I come!" He raged and came charging in with full force. Fist reared back and he went for a shot to the solar plexus that was ... powerful. He was still a heavily muscled man. however, the punch absolutely had no ferocity beyond what you would expect from a body builder of human limits and origins.

He's aware that Equius comes from a combat-oriented planet. (One with a society that culls those not born within accepted parameters.) Those muscles aren't just for show. They represent the kind of strength trolls admire.

With a direct attack like that, Midoriya is ready to suddenly step back with one foot, reducing his hit area. He deflects most of the force by dodging and grabbing Equius's arm with his hands. It's powerful, enough to make the muscles of his stomach brace in reflex at the speed with which they were almost hit, but nothing One For All can't handle. When they last sparred, he was lifting steel beams. He's three times as strong and fast now.

He bends Equius's arm behind him in a hold.

"Try to get out of this," he suggests.

He moved, in a fashion that he would never admit was squirming, but was definitely a sort of wriggling. Getting caught in this hold was exactly what he needed to test the limits of what the device was doing. Straining against the pull he could feel his strength matching solidly enough, but where he should have been able to produce give and even potentially break free of that incredible power?

"Ngh... nothing. Glob dam... right... it is doing what it is meant to. Your fronds give fractionally, but not enough. it is working." He growled before grunting. "Release me!"

When Equius squirms (it's squirming), Midoriya holds fast. There's no point in all this unless he gives it his best effort. He only lets go when bidden, immediately raising his own hands. He passes a sweeping glance over him to make sure nothing is out of sorts, but the hold was designed to just hold, not cause pain.

"Since this is a new way of moving for you, we'll keep practicing until you're used to it. Wouldn't want you to hurt yourself. I had to figure this out too, but in the opposite way, since my Quirk appeared late and I never thought I'd have super strength," he rambles helpfully.

(It's definitely squirming. Just don't tell him that!) Equius rubbed at his shoulder and rotated it, grunting and nodding. "It is actually not as new as you are thinking. I may have indicated, but I spent nearly a full sweep at this power level. It is more... remembering how to move in it, though the practice will be appreciated." He rumbled, looking back at Midoriya. "It feels a bit like walking through and moving through water, as if everything has greater resistance than it should, even the air."

"Ah that's right--it has been a while since Asgard... And I get it. You've lost out on speed too. We'll keep practicing until your muscle memory returns. Modified reaction times too. When we're sure it's safe, we'll spar for real, Quirkless--I mean, without power."
