[ Thanks to the Wonderkind portals last month, Kaneki was able to get some special gifts for himself> coffee plants. Of course that means the half-ghoul will do his best to grow and propagate the plants, and hopefully eventually get the beans in order to roast and make coffee. It won't be a steady flow of coffee, he doesn't think but he hopes to at least get some for himself and a couple more people.

However, Kaneki has to learn on his own a lot about plants. He never did that in his whole life but that won't intimidate him: with the many books he took from the Archives, Ken sits on the porch of his house, reading some of the books he brought that specifically talk about coffee and its plants. Nearby the house there is also glass and a plastic tarp and by the looks of it, Kaneki seems to be wanting to build a greenhouse. There are many gardening tools, however it's clear Ken is slightly confused by the whole process... it's a lot! Building a greenhouse, learning how to take care of plants, re-potting and growing... ]

... Maybe I should ask for help on the network... [ besides him, his Lamp Friend is still there, not set anywhere, but handing around Kaneki's shoulder with a flower on top of its head. Ken's own omen - a large Chinese red head centipede - seems to be playing (??? do Centipedes play? Hopefully so!) with the Bloodhound he got a couple of months ago. Said Bloodhound is incredibly destructive however, and Kaneki ends up having to keep an eye on it constantly - specially when it gets closer to the plants ]

Don't you dare...! [ Ken stares at the dog, who stares back at him, and after a small staring contest, the Hound leaves to go back to playing with the centipede.

With a big sigh, Ken places his gardening books on the ground which will work as a small podium for his Lamp Friend who is delighted to feel tall. And afterwards he reaches for another type of book, one about nightmares. Kaneki has been having a lot surprisingly (or not so surprisingly) although last month hasn't been exceptionally terrible compared to the others... still, he knows there is a big chance corruption might be making its way and Kaneki wants to avoid that at all costs, although he isn't entirely sure how. ]

Cemetery walk

[ Being a ghoul in a world where blood shed can cause a lot of issues is... complicated. At least kaneki isn't the type of ghoul who'd go out and hunt others and instead relies on the already dead, although that might also be an issue, he supposes. After all, no one would like the idea of a cannibal around, right?

he is careful at least. or tries to be. As careful as one is allowed in Trench. Not wanting to be found by anyone, Kaneki visits cemeteries and morgues in the dead of night, when everyone else is presumably asleep. He sneaks there and carefully takes body parts, always avoiding heads as he still finds it really creepy to anyone's head even if it's an already dead person. Also disrespectful? Honestly, Ken has many conflicting feelings over his own nature and what it forces him to do, and found strange hard-limits on what NOT to do.

This night he heads to cemetery. He saw a small funeral there the other day and decided not to touch the dead body just yet to let people mourn, but when a ghoul is hungry, a ghoul has to eat. And that means, eventually Kaneki heads there to dig out the source of food. It's fairly easy since Kaneki is a ghoul; inhuman strength and reflexes provide him with tools to dig out the coffin, and eventually he is able to open it. Despite what Kaneki is, however, there is still much sorrow and disgust in what he has to do: when he sees the body, he a choked sound escapes his throat and a whimper follows, while Kaneki tries to hold back mixed feelings of disgust but also hunger. ] I'm sorry... [ he whispers softly and then places his hands together for a small prayer and to thank this person who passed away. Kaneki doesn't exactly believe in afterlife, but he learned this from Yomo-san and thus decided he'd do the same.

Afterwards, Kaneki places down a plastic tarp and begins - yes, he will cut the body to pieces (with way too much ease, it seems) and will wrap the pieces to carry after. And during all of this? Kaneki is crying. Because in the end, this is terrible.]

[ This month will be particularly difficult for Ken: he is hungry. Always hungry. No matter how much he eats, he is still so hungry. He went through most of the food he kept in his house and then most of the food he could find at the morgue. Cemetery had also been raided by him, although he is certain he hasn't found all there is over there just yet. But this hunger that doesn't fade is dangerous because ghouls are dangerous.

And this hunger that doesn't fade is hell and painful, and Kaneki feels like he is dying and his body is burning from inside. No human will ever fully understand a ghoul's hunger because no human will ever feel this kind of pain in their lives: it's the kind that drives one mad almost immediately, and the kind that makes one believe that nothing can help but to bite into someone's flesh and just eat without regards for anything or anyone.

It's a scary, horrendous sort of pain and a monstrous sort of hunger.

While Kaneki tumbles through the streets of Trench, following the sweet, delicious smell of humans, he bites onto his own finger. It's obvious he is not okay, but it's also obvious he is trying hard to avoid people, trying to only move through empty alleyways and trying not to be seen by others. His Omen , a gigantic Chinese Red Head Centipede, is out hissing loudly at whoever passes by and tries to approach - it won't attack just yet, but there is a clear warning to keep away. ]

[ If you are interested in having your character be attacked by Kaneki in that last prompt, it is possible! However, Kaneki will not kill anyone; it will just be a bite. For anything more serious than a bite (which is also possible), I ask for characters to have healing abilities; I don't want to make a murder out of Kaneki. Information on Ghouls can be found HERE, specifically on their inhuman abilities, but short version is that kaneki has unnatural strength, speed, reflexes, and he is able to bite through skin like it's butter, and this means characters should be able to fight in order to push him off, otherwise reasoning with him through words might also work! if you are unsure how to make this play out, my CR MEME top-level is here and we can talk about it there, or you can add me to plurk over vilani

[ to be fair, the dog judges everyone. Even kaneki. Specially Kaneki.

Kaneki's omen turns back to Kokichi, antennae moving towards him before it turns to return to Kaneki, specially to wrap around one of his legs affectionally before Ken picks it up and places it on his shoulder. Afterwards, kaneki comes closer.

And all of those flowers and their meaning go right over his head because he was naturally not thinking about their meaning ] No, not flowers. [ kaneki laughs a little while shaking his head ]

Coffee plants. Still small, but I hope I can get them to grow beans eventually. [ and finally, kaneki will have his coffee ]

[Of course not, but some part of Kokichi was hoping him being obtuse would, miraculously, somehow lead to results. Not so. Still, he just beams, prancing over to Kaneki's side.]

Ohhhhh. Do you have everything else that would be necessary for that? If you're going to open up the next Starbucks, that takes a lotta prep, you know. The hustle is real. But hey, if you'd want any help or just company, I miraculously don't have training today. Or other obligations.

[And his house has been cold and lonely since Alvin left, anyway.]

[ kaneki chuckles but shakes his head afterwards ] I doubt I'd be able to. Plus the plants are still too small to give beans, it seems.

But I can try to make some for myself. [ he misses coffee. he misses coffee so much. But kaneki glances back at Kokichi ] I'd share with you, of course. Unless coffee isn't your favourite.

[ aha, he doesn't know about being anyone's favourite person. Actually? He thinks he is pretty boring ]

Never count yourself out of opportunity! There's so much that's not here that you can literally reinvent the wheel and become a real entrepreneur! [Of course, that's the words of an ambitious former Ultimate Supreme Leader for you. He's always willing to seize opportunity when it knocks.]

And it's not my absolute favorite, but I like it! I've been really wanting anything with a kick to it these days, anyway, so coffee would do me some real good. And I get spoiled on one of the few sources for it because I'm special. Once we figure out the rest of the logistics with making it, that is, but I can prooooobably invent something.

[He's a genius, after all.]

We start with coffee. And then, once we are confident in that drink being made....the final frontier. [He dramatically clenches his fist.] Grape soda.

[ kaneki doesn't want to become an entrepreneur, he is simply trying to find a way to have coffee because it's the only human thing he can actually have. It's what makes him feel normal.

But he pauses ]

grape soda...? Is that even good? [ sounds very... whine-y. Not that kaneki ever tried whine so he doesn't know, but now that he thinks about it ] Do they have grapes in this place? because grape soda doesn't sound that hard to make.

I'm sure there are books that would explain how it's done.

It's the best!! Grape Panta is the elixir of the gods, Kaneki! [Ehe. Kaneki's whiny. It's kinda cute.] I dunno...it's harder than it sounds. Panta has always been notoriously cagey with their recipe, like all soda brands. But if I can find a book on it...I'll study like a real scholar.

[He puffs a breath out his nose. Here goes nothing.]

...Oh yeah. I wanted to ask you about something.
Are you busy May 16th?

Hm... carbonated water and juice from grapes might be something. I don't think you can do something like the brands, but... at least something like that could work?

[ maybe not. Kaneki doesn't know, but look, there is some hope for grape soda. ]

May 16th? I'm free. [ if Trench doesn't throw something strange at them ] Why?

Hmm. It won't be exact, but everyone's always said stuff like 'creativity is the mother of invention'. So. It's worth a shot. You've got an easier path to your goal, though. A more relaxing one, too. Neeheehee.

[Well. Here we go.] On May 16th, there's gonna be a combat tournament. From what I know, Alice-chan is posting up flyers and everything...but, ah, I'm gonna be in it. I've been training with Professor Ozpin, so I'm not so weak anymore! It'll be out at The Gate. I was hoping...you'd be able to come and cheer me on~?

Eh? A combat...?

[ kaneki blinks. He didn't think Kokichi could fight, much less participating in a combat tournament?

Ken isn't one for fights and combat, even though he is able to do it. And honestly, he will probably be out of place during the tournament, watching and not fully understanding everything.

But Kokichi wanted him there and Kaneki can't help but smile a little ]

Okay- yeah, sure. I don't mind giving you some support.

Yeah! It's gonna be wild~! I'm prooooooobably not gonna take the whole thing since there are people here who've been fighting most of their lives, and I've got, like, a month of lance training in me...

[Well, at least he's honest about that.]

But I can't let Professor Ozpin down! And it's proof of concept that I'll keep getting better. I figured...I probably need to, since Trench isn't gonna be easy on me. And as nice as it is to be rescued, I can't put that burden on you all the time~

[Maybe sometimes.]

If I keep this up, maybe I'll be the one rescuing you someday. Nee-hee-hee!

But it's important that you will try. I'll be proud of you regardless of how far you get, Kokichi-chan. [ Kaneki smiles warmly back at his friend, but he still nods.

it could be fun and take mind off the terrible things happening around Trench. Plus, Kokichi seems very proud and happy to be part of it, thus how can kaneki not want to support him? ]

Hmmm, perhaps you can also teach me a bit. [ kaneki was learning how to fight before he came to this place. he doesn't really think he is very good at it, and if Kokichi knows better moves, naturally he wouldn't mind learning ]

.... [How the fuck was he so good. God. Confessing to Kaneki is going to be one of the most difficult experiences in his life, and he went through the killing game.] ...T-Thank you. I'm glad. [That...made his face heat up again.]

You think? You're pretty capable already. I'm mostly picking up swords 'n stuff...Professor Ozpin's giving me a well-rounded education, though. I couldn't hurt you, though, so I'd probably unintentionally be taking it easy.

[And that's when he feels the dog staring at his back.

It's judging him.]

[ the dog is always judging.

Kaneki chuckles and shakes his head]

I'm tougher than it looks. But I know what you mean - I think I'd be afraid to hurt you too. [ specially Kaneki who is a half-ghoul]

...It's okay, though. I wouldn't be mad even if you did.

And I know you're tougher than you look, silly. [He clicks his tongue.] I'm one of the people who knows that best.

Also, uh.

Why is that dog giving me the stink eye? Is that your pet? ...I think it hates me.

[ ah... Kokichi has no idea, really.

But at the mention of the dog, he glances at it and after sighs]

It does that to everyone. I don't think it even likes me much. [ Kaneki has no idea why the dog stays by his side when it clearly has no intention of becoming friendly with Kaneki.]

Well, it must, if it sticks around you so much. [Kokichi exchanges a glance with the dog, before he hums.] Maybe feeding it might get it to lighten up a little?

I don't think it'd be picky, so anything inside might do...

[....he does not know]

Oh, it only eats blood pollution. It goes around town to find it, and comes back when its full.

[ kaneki wanted to keep him closer, but the dog does whatever it wants, truly. It's better not to force it, because it will try to eat healthy blood if there is no pollution around ]

he is harmless. Just a bit stubborn.
