Whoa, okay, he talks! Has that always been a thing?

[Lance says while staring at the coyote. It seems to grin but then doesn't say anything else, just leans down to pick up Lance's gem which is set into a cuff worn on his wrist and hand it over.
Then it farts on the thief's head. The guy makes muffled sounds of protests and scrambles up and runs away when the Omen lets it go. Lance just stares a second and then dissolves into laughter.]
Dude, talk about capital punishment! Up top! [He holds his hand up for the coyote Omen who hits it with a paw. Then he turns to Hunk and holds his other hand out lower with a grin.] Down low!

no subject
Too slow!
[But he also knows Hunk extremely well and his look softens. He doesn't need to be an empath to know Hunk walked right into that knowing what was coming.]
Thanks, man.
no subject
I can always get you back at some point.
no subject
Oh I know you will, man. [He starts putting his stabilizing Gem back around his wrist.] So, think you've got a cool smoke dog hiding somewhere in your body?
[The coyote standing behind him looks annoyed.] I'm a coyote.
no subject
I hope so!
[He turns his attention to the coyote omen when he speaks, and his puppy expression is not difficult to read. He nudges gently at Lance and motions to the omen.]
Aw, see? You already made him mad. Look at 'im.
[It's meant to be more of a friendly jab than a scolding, and Hunk turns his attention to the spirit pup, hooking a thumb over his shoulder toward Lance.]
Don't worry, he'll get it eventually. You should see how he introduced himself to the blue lion back home.
no subject
What was so wrong with how I introduced myself to Blue? And he's not mad, right?
[On that last question, he turns to look at the coyote Omen. The coyote eyes them both with an air of playfulness, making them wait for his answer.]
No estoy enojada… esta vez.
[Lance blinks in some surprise and isn't sure what… to say. (translation: I am not angry… this time).]
no subject
Uh, what's that mean? What'd he say?
no subject
[Lance says with a raised eyebrow, eyeing the omen.]
"I'm not angry… this time." That's threatening, right?
[The Omen appears to just sit there and snicker silently.]
no subject
Uh-huh. Yeah, kinda like the "it's all fun and games, but sleep with one eye open" kinda threatening.
[Although the omen's overall demeanor doesn't exactly give off that kind of vibe. Hunk doesn't seem too put off by it.]
no subject
Yeah, exactly that kind of threatening.
[He eyes the coyote for a moment longer, waiting for it to say more and then shrugs with his hands up.]
Eh, guess he wants to stay mysterious for a little longer. Gives us time to bro down and explore the town… oh, man sick rhyme and I wasn't even trying that time! … Twice!
no subject
[Hunk gives Lance a gentle nudge to the ribs.]
Guess there's lots to figure out around town. You think our omens might be able to help us out?
no subject
[He nudges Hunk back and then nods, gesturing that they should start moving and maybe explore.]
Maybe, why don't you try summoning yours? Maybe it'll be more helpful than this guy. [He jabs his thumb over his shoulder at the silent coyote.]
no subject
Hunk breathes a quiet sigh of relief. The problem of how to summon his omen seems to have been resolved.]
Oh! Here he is.
no subject
Uh. Hunk, buddy... where's its head? [He pokes at the scales and his coyote comes to sit next to it and look down with perked interested ears.] Actually, scratch that. What the hell is it?
no subject
Well, his head is right around here somewhere...
[As if on cue, the creature loosens his ball just enough to pull his head out from the center and points an inquisitive, sniffing nose at Lance.]
He's a pangolin! At least that's what he told me when we first met.
no subject
Hey, pretty cool! He looks like one of those pokemon. Does he have a name?
no subject
[The scaley boy's nose leads it to Lance's omen, and while he doesn't completely withdraw, he does drop his head a bit, trust from his human overriding
the knee-jerk fear.]
[The omen speaks, more telepathically than verbally.] Duniya.
[Hunk grins, gently stroking the pangolin's ruddy, goldenrod scales.]
I call 'im Dune for short.
no subject
[Coyote just looks at him and Lance just knows in his gut the omen is internally laughing about it. It's his idea of a joke. Lance gives him a flat look.] Riiiight.
[He looks over at Hunk and pointedly pets Dune's scales.] Soooo, does Duniya mean anything?
no subject
Pretty sure it means earth. Fitting, right?
no subject
Oh totally. It's almost like a piece of your soul got pulled out and compressed until it turned into, uh… what is it again?
no subject
A pangolin.
[Dune gets to his feet and his tail is longer than Hunk remembers. He walks up to Lance, sniffing at his ankles as his long tail spirals in on itself.]
Y'know, I think the pangolin and the coyote are gonna be pretty good friends, don'tcha think?
no subject
[Then he snorts and crosses his arms.]
Of course they are, they're our omens after all. [Then he pitches his voice low and leans closer to Hunk to whisper.] What do you think they're plotting?
no subject
I wish I could tell you. Hey, at least they probably aren't the type to try and take over the world.
