We could go down in flames (but we'll melt the world away)
Who: Allen Walker and Shouto Todoroki
What: Allen comes back after dying while purifying beast-Dabi, cue pain (:
When: Early May
Where: Farther Shores
Content Warnings: Mentions of character death, character panic over disabling injury/body failure
[ Timcanpy has been waiting very patiently.
For over a week, Timcanpy has been waiting very patiently. While new Sleepers washed ashore and remembered their features and spring began and was celebrated on the boardwalk. After they had stopped appearing and the ocean once settled into its normal rhythm, grey and foreboding, without anyone further being brought in by the tide. Sunrise to sunset and throughout the night and moonrise, he stays up in the boughs of a lone flowering cherry tree along the black sand and watches the waves.
Sometimes having company, and sometimes not. Sometimes being the one keeping company. He comes down and stays with them, letting himself be sad then and clinging on.
But he's a good omen. He'll wait as long as it takes.
It's the first night of the full moon when he stirs suddenly, rousing from where he had been not-quite dozing, like someone disturbed from their sleep by a distant sound. Staring out into the waves so quietly, so intently, like he's straining to see... before he explodes into motion. Rocketing up, zig-zagging back and forth, before abruptly taking off towards the water—
—and then coming straight back, slamming into the nearby, camped out Todoroki's head and bouncing off like a squishy sort of softball. He's right back up and fluttering around in front of his face a moment later though. Get up, get up! Now! Nownownow!! ]

I don't mind being cold sometimes. [ He lets his hand drop though, even if his expression is still gentle with concern. That answer is cryptic in how it doesn't actually answer his question at all, and considering that and knowing he'd tread near another landmine... maybe it's best he just leave it at that.
How is it he keeps bruising you so easily? He hates it, really. And it's something he'll need to reflect on. But he gives his head a small shake at the question for now. ]
Mm, it's fine. I'm fine. [ Really. It's warming up, not that he's paying it a lot of mind. ]
It wasn't about me being cold anyway.
no subject
I know. [ His hands shift, and press themselves against the bottom of the bath on either side of him. ] It was me.
I was cold.
[ He starts to rise. ] I'll get us some clothes. [ And steps out of the bath, with water streaming down the towel wrapped around his waist. ]
no subject
He should have just said nothing. Everything is too raw still. Too sensitive with too many pitfalls. ...Was it also because of corruption, maybe? Being more easily set off down a spiraling rabbit hole. It's hard to tell, since Shouto is someone with landmines that are hard to spot before they're set off. But the circumstance, his death, his being there... "Don't go--"
One stained by the other's blood, the other by their tears. It would be naïve of him to think that corruption wasn't also at play, even if it's not so bad for him to "see" a dark cloud of it, and that's honestly more the reason for him to be concerned.
It's why he watches him get up to go with a conflicted expression, even as he digs the nails of his fingers into his palms a little and his response is delayed. You don't have to go, but... ]
...Alright. [ What else can he say? He already got up and instinct says he probably needs a moment alone in his own thoughts. And without knowing more, there isn't a lot that Allen could say that wouldn't be overbearing.
Even if I'm the one who hurt you.
Timcanpy's quiet too, just floating in a silent and somber sort of way as he watches the both of them, and Allen twists to follow Shouto's movements as he hesitates. Restless and feeling useless in a way that has nothing to do with his legs. ]
Thank you.
no subject
He keeps moving just like always making a concerted effort not to linger on Allen's words now that he's found a way forward. His steps lead him to his room where the towel gets tossed in the hamper and he heads for his dresser to collect the clothes he promised.
He dresses quietly. A black t-shirt, and loose grey sweats, then starts collecting Allen's share, a white t-shirt and navy sweats. He collects a fresh new towel and leaves his room to head back to the bath but once there he lingers at the door. Shouto... You're cold. He was still cold. Warm up. Kizu intervenes and her Sleeper hesitates. You'll make him cold. A sharp breath. Warm up. He cedes to her, lets go of his right side, and activates his left, enough so he won't feel cold to him before letting it go too.
Ten minutes later, Shouto walks into the bath with a large fluffy white towel and a stack of clothes. Expression neutral, he meets Allen's eye. ]
I'll help you out.
no subject
He's finished by the time Shouto comes back, twisting around to look at him when he enters a little quicker than he needs to, although his own expression becomes a bit gentler at seeing his neutral one. ]
Okay. I can get up a little-- [ He really doesn't want to be entirely helpless; he needs to do something. Which is why he sets his hands on the ledge of the tub and pulls himself up, carefully just as he's not used to maneuvering legs that are a dead weight, and scoots back to sit on the edge. Water pours off him, making ripples that Timcanpy swims around in, and at least this way he figures he'll be a little easier (and drier) to pick up.
This time he smiles a little when he twists to look up at the other boy, sheepish and a touch contrite, before extending a hand in acceptance. ]
Probably not any further though.
no subject
What happened to you? The question is swallowed up by a sheepish smile pointed his way alongside the offered hand. Shouto looks from his face to his hand back to his face again. What are you... AND only THEN remembers the towel he's holding. Oh. ]
It's warm.
[ He says by way of assurance, and hands it over. ]
no subject
He cocks his head to the side with a blink and then a warmer sort of sheepish smile this time, and he takes the towel when it's offered. Toweling off his hair first, although it takes him a little longer than it used to from the length. ]
Thanks. [ Warm towel? That's an actual luxury. Too bad he's still feeling too guilty to really let himself appreciate it.
He looks a little hesitant once he's finished drying what he can of himself, legs still in the water, before stealing a furtive glance at the other. Nervous smile. ]
If you could help set me... down? I'll have to try and get out of these first. [ The undergarments. He means the undergarments. ]
no subject
You're welcome.
[ He watches him make a mess of his hair, the way his hair won't ever stay for more than a second before stubbornly returning to their designated place. White on his right, red to his left.
When he finishes drying his hair, Shouto is still staring with no qualms about being caught. ]
I can always help you. [ He says outright without hesitating. ] What do you need from me?
no subject
His hair is absolutely fluffed in every direction though, damp or not. Unlike Shouto, Allen's hair is incredibly fine and fluffy and it takes literally nothing for it to stick every which way. Honestly there's never any "proper" or designated place for it. It just... does its thing. Every time he invokes his Innocence it always spikes up anyway, shoulder length now or not.
His head tips back as he scratches at his cheek for a moment. ]
Just help me onto the floor? I don't think I could balance well on the seats. [ He could flop down like a fish and figure it out but honestly, neither of them would want that. ]
I can finish changing then.
no subject
The floor is cold and you're still wet.
[ He doesn't budge. ]
You can change in my room. I'll carry you there.
no subject
Eh? [ He blinks, not having expected that.
Timcanpy, meanwhile, has pulled himself up onto the ledge of the tub as well and seems intrigued. ]
I'm not dry yet though, I'll just get your room wet... [ and him! ]
no subject
I live over a stream. It's seen water before.
[ He steps forward and plucks the towel from his hands. This is now his thank you very much. He's just gonna wrap it around Allen's shoulders now and proceed to pick him up. ]
no subject
Allen wrinkles his nose at him as he's scooped up, but also goes along obligingly and holds on around his neck. ]
Telling you 'no' wouldn't even work, would it. [ You even took his towel, you cad. ]
no subject
If you were against it, I wouldn't be carrying you.
[ And through the door and down the hall they go until they reach a pair of elegant shogi screens. ]
no subject
Yes, yes...
[ He gives that small sort of ineffectual huff but yes, is actually rather relaxed (more relaxed by the exchange?) and offers no protest; tone comfortable and warm. His eyes flick back up to catch the profile of Shouto's face thoughtfully a moment later as well, watching him for a moment with an unreadable sort of expression until they come to the shoji doors, and they snag his attention in turn.
Tim drifts after them, of course, after taking a moment to shake himself dry like a dog, and hovers just over Shouto's shoulder like he usually does with Allen. He spirals ahead to them, as if curious about opening them himself. ]
no subject
One arm goes around his back and the other supports his legs as he crouches down to set Allen down right on the cushion slipping the towel from his form to minimize the 'wetness'. ]
I'll get up another towel.
no subject
His head tips to the side as he takes in the room though, sparse and simple, and despite being Victorian and British recognizing the futon to on side for what it is. It's familiar but also not, reminding him again of parts of China, of the Asia branch, but not quite. More understated. ]
Sorry to make you have to get another one... [ He pulls his legs up onto the cushion as well, figuring out how to "manually" sit cross-legged, and looking a touch contrite. This really is something where he owes him laundry after this... after figuring out how he can manage that without just being more of a bother. ]
I should probably go to the Lumenarium tomorrow and see what might help. [ Anything? Nothing? At least a wheelchair would let him get around and be able to do more on his own if he is going to be like this for... a while. ]
no subject
The room reflects its owner, minimalistic and sustainable. There's no clutter, only the necessary items, yet there's beauty in its simplicity from the delicate shoji screen doors to the soft tatami flooring.
When he returns with another fluffy white towel in hand, Shouto crouches in front of Allen offering the towel to him. It's warm as if just came out of the dryer, but his thoughts are elsewhere as he holds Allen's gaze.]
I'm the one who did this to you... Touya and I. [ He amends. ] So, please don't apologize.
[ He nods at the suggestion regarding the Lumenarium. It reflects his own thoughts moving forward. They would have a better idea how to help him than anyone else he can think of. ]
We can go tomorrow.
no subject
Except he also isn't so dense as to think Shouto considers it a bother, in fact he seems to find a sort of peace in it -- and Allen did promise which is why he relents. Giving a small nod in response as he takes the towel, and wrapping it around himself like a blanket with a small burrowing motion. It's chilly in here and he's more naked than not and wet. ]
Tomorrow.
no subject
[ He repeats, rising to give him room to dry himself as he pleases. He walks across the length of the room to where the futon is neatly put away and sets it up in the center of the room. A heavy thick futon, a soft comforter, and two pillows. He has to leave the room to retrieve another pillow from the living room.
When he's done, he leaves the room to pick up the clothes he left behind in the bath, taking the time to clean up while he's there, putting the soaps and shampoos before draining the bath. Once he's done, he returns to the room with clothes in hand: a white t-shirt, navy sweats, and a pair of boxer briefs. He hands these over to Allen when he crouches in front of him. ]
Do you want to change here or on the bed?
no subject
He's re-wrapped himself back up in the towel like a blanket when he comes back with the clothes, hair even somewhat manageable now after having finger-combed through it, and has settled himself rather peacefully on the cushion. Seeming a little zoned out or lost in thought when Shouto comes back, though with a gentle expression. He snaps back out of it with a bit of a blink when he crouches in front of him though, quickly remembering himself and taking the offered clothes. Oh. ]
Here is fine, thank you. I won't be long. [ A pause. ]
You'll.... sleep here too, right? I wouldn't want to put you out--
[ He hasn't insisted on much at all but he'd insist on that, oh my god. Could not stand himself to kick someone out of their own bed. ]
no subject
As for the question, there's a small pause before he shakes his head. He'll give Allen just about anything right now, but letting him sleep at his table with the cushions for pillows isn't something he's willing to do. ]
No, we'll sleep on the futon.
The tatami mats are comfortable, but they're not meant to be slept on.
no subject
He blinks for a moment a touch comically, trying to follow that-- and then laughing faintly when he realizes it. Reaching out to pat the other boy on the arm lightly, reassured and fond both. Don't worry. ]
That's what I meant.
[ He could sleep here like this and wouldn't even mind it, but he does figure that isn't what Shouto meant and he probably wouldn't allow that. ]
no subject
You said here. At the table.
no subject
"Here" also means this room. [ Heh.
Still smiling good-naturedly, he shakes his head lightly. ]
Sorry, I should have been more specific.
