Where: (the field outside of) Pal and Viktor's bunker in Gaze
Content Warnings: alcohol and teens drinking it, irresponsible use of explosives, see threads for anything else that comes up

afternoon/evening.
Earlier in the morning on the day of The Fireworks Field Party (tm), Palamedes makes sure to send a quick location ping to anyone who's never been to the Sixth bunker (also tm) before, because it is, indeed, just in a field somewhere in Gaze. The treeline is comfortably distant from the door to said bunker, which is the only real indication anything is out here besides a few "big rocks" that he names, in his message, as landmarks.
As an afterthought, he has set up a little trail of mason jars containing glowing mushrooms to lead the way to The Field, helpfully. The Field is what it sounds like: a dang field, just slightly ominous in the Gaze fashion, although besides the usual somebody's-watching feeling, it's grassy and spacious for kitschy lawn games. Among the things Palamedes has provided (upon recommendation of a shopkeeper, so like, do not perceive his choices, they were made for him) include:
1. Just a load of blankets, big cozy ones dutifully spread out for chilling on, on the ground.
2. Throwing game Crossbones, definitely chosen because of the bones (they are wooden sticks), and just kind of left sitting there waiting because your host does not know how to play physical games.
3. beanbag horseshoes because it rocks
4. Just, like, a specific blanket that has pencils and blank paper sitting on it... This is a free station, no one will question what art happens here.
Harrow has also provided bone chairs for alternate seating, which are precisely what they sound like.
Eventually, the field will also feature a snack table, which is a community effort, and a booze table, which is slightly supervised in the way that your esteemed host(s) will not permit booze and cherry bombs at the same time.
And, because it's an open field in Trench, there is also a table where emergency incense is waiting. Wandering too far from the space immediately around the bunker (which, it's a big space, you'd have to go far) will eventually lead you to blood wards on the ground, on the trunks of a few trees, etc. Don't touch these. Don't be gross.
the fucken fireworks.
It's fireworks. Once it's dark, there are even more glowing mushroom jars and homemade alchemy glowsticks from Waver to be passed around, somehow, and at least some of the little beanbags glow in the dark, ooh!! Viktor has provided cherry bombs to be used with at least a little caution, for god's sake. There are also some slightly larger fireworks in much shorter supply, from a shop, that will be closely guarded until someone with pyrotechnics talent convinces Palamedes they deserve one. Godspeed.
Broadly: this is a fireworks party (tm) for individual wee ones you can throw around on your own, with only a brief smattering of the big ones that light up the whole sky above the field. It's a chill time for cool buds, fire safety is encouraged, so is vibing on the blankets and enjoying a nice evening.
At various times, local dope musician Anna Amarande will be providing some light musical entertainment, for vibes.
the bunker i guess.
The party is not in here, but for reference:
-it's locked via numpad and neither of these stickbug nerds are giving out the code but they'll open the door if asked... you don't have to leave the place to go to the bathroom lmf
-it's a bunker. it's one room and a bathroom in the back. it's full of disorganized nerd stuff and an oversized moon orb and pal's mean omen, rocky the cool rat (harpy eagle), who will aggressively flap at anyone with sticky fingers until they leave
-the code is 69420 so if you're super funny like gideon you COULD guess it

[ Look at that. Judging by how Chizuru is usually so careful and polite at all times, that must have escaped her very instinctively - especially since it follows so soon after those last words Viktor says, with a hint of a blush on her face.
Apparently getting this girl to accept any compliment is truly an uphill battle.
She does seem to realise what she just instinctively said, since she only looks more flustered as she knows what she did, but there's only way out of this.
And that's doubling down. ]
I-I mean, we were talking about you just now! You're the one who can make all these amazing things! [ Don't turn this around on her!! ]
no subject
yeah chizuru, you tell him, though maybe pick a topic that isn't fighting his compliments next time? baby steps.]
Hm, how about this, we both agree we're very talented with what we create. Cooking or simple fireworks.
[he is now attempting bargaining to get her to agree. sneaky.]
no subject
.. but then she realises the little snake hidden in the grass here, and she gasps at him. ]
You're trying to trick me..!
[ It's said in a way that's entirely too dramatical for the situation, but maybe trying to avoid compliments is just that important to Chizuru, who knows.. ]
I-I'm not falling for it!
[ Truly, this is apparently just the one topic she's decided to stand her ground on. A real baby step. The tiniest of them. ]
no subject
best just to take the win for now. viktor offers a faux grim nod.] Ah, you have seen through me. One of these days I will find a way to have you agree with a compliment.
[this is what chizuru signed up for, i'm afraid. the steep price of friendship.]
no subject
But Chizuru will definitely take this as a victory. Yet another day where she managed to somehow slip out of the compliments net! She lives yet another day!
But since she doesn't want to linger on the very subject of compliments themselves, she goes quiet for a moment. Staring around them, and then seeming to realise something else she could bring up. Something she's been curious about to begin with, anyway, so it works. ]
Um.. Viktor?
[ She looks back at him. ] All these fireworks.. Do they have a lot of those where you come from?
[ After all, Chizuru thinks she still knows very little about the place he comes from - other than the fact that it must be nothing like Edo or Kyoto, judging by the way Viktor acts and the things he seems to know about. ]
no subject
I suppose so. Where I was born things like these cherry bombs were pretty common. In Piltover, the city I moved to later, they had much grander fireworks, especially on holidays. Every Progress Day the sky would be filled with them.
[piltover did like a spectacle. but it makes him ask a question too,] In your world they were not common I take it?
You mentioned swordmanship, but did your world have guns? I get the feeling our worlds are from fairly different points in time and development too. [since swords weren't really a big thing, maybe in demacia but obviously not in tech heavy piltover.]
no subject
[ That should probably give him a better idea at least of how far Chizuru's world is on the technological developments tree.. Especially since Chizuru is basically right at that turning point. It was a big deal in her world, and it's why she's quiet for a moment after she says it as she thinks about that once more. ]
In fact, they're.. um. Kind of a problem. [ From Chizuru's point of view, anyway. There are quite some people who are perfectly content with guns. ] After all, it's hard to fight someone with a gun when you only have a sword.. the range is completely different.
[ And bows are slower and less deadly. ]
So the group I've been part of has had a really hard time adapting to that so far..
no subject
it also paints a bit of a picture about this group, sword wielders in a no doubt rapidly changing world. he nods, a small frown as he says,] I can imagine. When such a powerful new weapon becomes available it must make a terrible imbalance for those who have an abundance and those who do not, or choose not to use it.
Guns have been around for a long while in my world. In truth swordmanship is more a sport than anything there.
no subject
[ She knows that he's just talking about his own world, and that - technically - that shouldn't say anything about her own world or its potential future fate. But with how things have been turning out there recently, it does feel more and more like that is the inevitable outcome.
It makes her expression drop a little. ]
I think that Hijikata-san and everyone else from back home.. would be really sad to hear that. [ No, it's not even that she thinks that. She knows it for sure, given everything she's seen back there. ] Fighting and living by the sword.. It's really important to them. It's the way they approach everything, so it must be extra hard for them to see it falling apart like that..

a few moments of thought and he offers,] I cannot say without knowing these men, but I assume the core of their principles are more than the tools they use to uphold them.
Which is to say they protect people, yes? It may be difficult but I am sure they will eventually find a way to do so even should the world change.
no subject
Well, it's...
[ .. her voice trails off without saying anything more for a moment. Chizuru really has to think about this one. It's not like she was really born into the mindset, which makes it a little harder for her to explain, and then there's the fact that this also feels like one of those cultural differences she has to explain on top of it - making it double as difficult.
But Viktor has been so kind in always listening to her, so she wants to at least make an effort. ]
It's a little bit more difficult than that. [ She settles on after a moment, watching the last remainders of her sparkler burn out. Chizuru sounds very thoughtful about all of this, knowing how rough of a subject it is for those men she cares so much about back home. ] Using the sword, being a samurai.. It's a way of life that's entirely tied up in the way the world is. And with how much the world is changing.. It's changing in ways that will probably make that way of life impossible in the future.
[ It's hard to explain just how much it feels like the entire world changes when your country has preserved the exact same culture for hundreds of years, only to suddenly have it overwritten from the outside. ]
Um, sorry. I know it probably all sounds really hard to understand. [ Especially since it's not like Viktor comes from the same place as her. ]
no subject
[he puts his own dead sparkler down on the arm of his chair, thoughtful as he says,] It sounds very eh... code of warriors. I doubt I would ever understand such a thing, it is simply not a way of life I have ever found appealing.
For what it is worth I hope they can find a way to adapt. [he doubts that will be an easy task, but they seem important enough to chizuru he'll gladly wish them that much. he wonders if the group coming here wouldn't be kinder to them, or if it would still be too changed a way of life to find comfort in.]
