... I know. And I've seen what happens when someone gets too caught up in their role. It's not pretty.

[He's been trying to be kinder to himself. It's... a slow process. But here? No one's expecting him to be a hero. There's a reason he set his network username as justanadventurer - that's all he wants to be here.]

[... Even if he still has that urge to be a hero... he needs to take it easier. He needs to slow down. It's hard, when there's so much to do and to learn... but he's trying.]

[He nods at Dabi's assessment.]

Basically.

It's enough to cover your whole body, including accessories. Magical enchantments can be tied to things like bracelets or rings. But you can only store one set - the space inside isn't that large.

[dabi finishes up the wrapping around the man's stomach and leans back, blue flames peeling back from his fingertips all the way off his wrist in a way to burn away anything that might've been clinging to his skin. between the burns on his back and the laceration across his stomach, those two injuries seem to be the worse that nara'a's taken. some rest and whatever magic the man wants to throw at the injuries should be enough to heal it up.

there is a use for people who don't mind getting themselves wrecked for someone else over and over. they make for good shielding and their bleeding hearts are apt resources for distraction. though in a world like trench, where the idea of hero and villain is shoved onto the back burner in lieu of everyone trying to survive... such a person's just going to get themselves trashed.

but that's not his problem.]

So that armor's only in that stone. And somethin for water would be in another one.

That's about the right of it.

[He doesn't really have anything for water, really. Maybe he should get something.]

[Then again, he's not sure swimming in the ocean here is a great idea.]

... Thank you, by the way. For taking care of me.

[It's not something he expected, certainly. The other doesn't strike him as a healer or even someone who does 'concern' very much.]

Hn. [no dabi wouldn't suggest swimming in the ocean in this place. it's ominous enough simply walking the beaches on the farther shores. still, there's so much fish (ugh) here, that obviously people feels safe enough (or driven enough) to go out and get their catch.

he pushes himself up to go set his supplies back on the bathroom counter. then pulls out a bottle, pops the top, dumps a pill into his hand, caps it again with his thumb, and puts it back in the bag. back to nara'a.]

Whatcha want for it?

[blunt, as he hands him the pill. painkiller.]

[He eyes the pill carefully... but he's reasonably sure he's not going to get poisoned here. He swallows it and winces as he feels it go down. Probably should have gotten some water from his pack, but no point in trying that now.]

[The question of payment... right. He shouldn't have expected this would be out of the goodness of someone's heart. He scratches at his cheek for a moment, thinking.]

Could make you some clothes, if you want.

[well there's a sink right over there, but who knows if the water's good or not? it works at least. the tub itself has a faucet despite it being free-standing in the middle of the bathroom. makes it easier to clean and keeps it separate from the floor and walls. since things can get a little messy in there... blood-wise. that's the point of it.

truthfully dabi isn't expecting "payment" for this thing? after all, the guy did get the demon off him. but if he can spin it as a favor he could be repaid for, hell if he's going to knock the option down.]

What d'ya mean?

[magic clothes? some kind of armor? or is he talking a once "on me" trip to the tailors?]

I'm not exactly the most fantastic weaver in all the lands, but I can make solid clothing that'll stand up to a decent amount of wear and tear.

[He shrugs. He's no armorer or blacksmith, he can't do anything with leatherworking, but he can make sure that clothing doesn't fall apart.]

It'd be better than nothing.

[And also he doesn't like owing favors. They're too easily misused.]

Uh-huh. [yeah that ain't flying. some kind of hand-crafted clothing from a guy who can go a quick-change magic act? dabi knows he can get better clothes far quicker from other places.

so he simply tilts his head towards the other man again.] Whatcha want for the stone?

[it's not the clothes he wants so much as the quick change ability. even if it's only capable of one change, to be able to carry around a spare wardrobe change in your back pocket? that's a useful ability.] Or do ya know how to make one?

Not happening. And I don't know how to make it.

[Sorry Dabi, but you've hit a hard wall. He's sworn to various people that he'll protect his job stones. That doesn't mean he's giving one up.]

If Stephanivien were here I could ask him, but he's not. And I'm not giving up the ones I have.

[he clicks his tongue in annoyance, mildly irked he didn't attempt to swipe the stone from earlier. then again, wouldn't have helped since they were still together. and now that he's made his intent known, likely nara'a won't take his hand out of his pocket.

or will at least check his pocket before he leaves.]

[He huffs a little bit. He shouldn't have said anything, but still...]

I have a lot of them in my world. This place didn't exactly let me have the full set when I showed up, though.

[So no... but yes.]

I'm fairly certain they'd be useless to anyone else anyway. You can't use them if you haven't been accepted by it - and the requirements for such differ from stone to stone.

[so they weren't any use to him. fair enough. dabi seems to let the topic go after getting two doors shut in his face, along with the man not intending to let him have one either. good thing nara'a's wounds have already been treated.]

Can ya change the clothing the stone's got in it? Take out the armor ya had and put in a suit?

I can. I have to resync the equipment with the stone, but I'm able to change it. The glamours attached to them can be changed as well.

[He holds up his shirt.]

For instance, this has the toughness of a strong piece of armor but the appearance and texture of a shirt I had made.

[He's glad he had his friend make it for him, though - he does look very good in it.]

[... damn. now it wants it again. dabi's eyes narrow, seriously giving consideration to attacking the man and attempting to take the stone from his charred body. considering what he saw earlier, as well as an instance dealing with someone one of a similar caliber, it keeps his intent in check. not his interest, however.]

And there's no way ya gonna part with it...

[a single change of clothes might not be extremely beneficial for every instance, but the options available are pretty obvious.]

Or be able to make or find another one.

[his eyes wander towards nara'a's pocket, fingers curling slightly. perhaps an insignificant chance of one washing up on the father shores (or finding one down in the caves below), but...]

No way. I promised to protect the ones I have.

[To various people, in various times... but yes. It's not as if he's one who goes back on a promise.]

Sorry... I know someone who knows how to make them, if he ever shows up here. But other than that... no such luck.

[He just uses them, he doesn't know how to make them. If he could, he would.]

Too bad.

[dabi curbs the desire to burn him up for it. there are other ways of getting what he wants, and to be honest, it's a passing curiosity desire at best. better to keep the ally for use later on than burn the proverbial bridge, literally, now.]

Right. Ya ever come across a spare one, lemme know.

[something of a compromise.]

[Thankfully Dabi seems to see reason. He's not eager to get into a fight right now - he's injured and also he kind of likes this grumpy guy. It'd be a shame to fight him. He nods and smiles.]

If I find one, I'll let you know.

[He knows it's unlikely, but there's always a chance. Especially in a place like this, where 'impossible' seems to not really be a relevant word.]

... Huh. The pain is fading faster than I thought. Is that due to that thing you had me swallow?

[he's insane, not stupid. another day, when he wasn't drained from having a demon sucking his healthy out via his nightmares, leaving him injured and insomniac, he might've thought himself able to take this guy. but now? nope.

gonna slink off and nurse his wounds while waiting for a better option.]

Good. I'll keep that in mind.

[might check in every now and then. shit washes up on the shores pretty frequently, if you want to brave the beaches.]

Uh-huh. That's what a painkiller does.

[Good plan, Dabi. On that note, he smiles.]

Well, thank you for that. We don't have much of that where I'm from, just some herbs that can be used for that purpose.

... I never introduced myself, did I? After all this time... I've been quite rude. My name is Nara'a.

[There's just been so much going on... he forgot basic courtesy. Not that he thinks it matters that much in this situation, but it's still nice to be polite when he can be!]

[a brief flicker of blue flame washes over his hand again, burning away anything else that might be clinging to his skin. with the other man no longer threatening to bleed out or crack his burned skin, dabi's got no more use for the medicines. he puts the rest of his supplies back in the bag and ties it up, then leaves it in the sink until he's ready to go. nara'a will have to make do with other aid elsewhere.]

That's how it started in my world. Eat a few plants and ya doped for hours.

[really easy to do things if you lacked pain or inhibitions. things those plants could certainly "remove" for a little while.

he glances over to the man as he turns around and rests the back of his hips against the sink edge.]

[could've gone nameless, wasn't important, but if he wants something to to call him by, whatever.]

[He watches the flames, still fascinated by the man's control over them. How much aether does he burn to do that? How long must he have practiced to not hurt himself with it? Sure, he can see that there's injury on the other, but the way he controls it now...]

[He pulls himself from his thoughts.]

Well, I know alchemists that are very good at making potions... perhaps one day they'll get to the point of a small capsule.

[Technology! It's interesting, even if he knows they're far behind compared to other civilizations.]

[But finally, a name.]

Dabi. I'll remember that. ... Do you need anything right now? I could apply things if you need.

[would it hurt his pride if he found out the answer was "none"? ... oy, does he look like he hasn't hurt himself with it? though that latter question has a convoluted, tragic, and nasty answer. a conversation to get into at another time, for sure. it's true he's got control of it now. so long as he doesn't overuse it, he'll be fine.

even if that's the proverbial linchpin.]

Gel capsules, yeah. [those things usually associated with fish oil and other more vitamin-like fare rather than medical drug tablets and pills. that said, condensing a potion into a capsule... it's an interesting image.

hah, yeah don't go bitching about their technology being limited when they got, you know, fucking magic. you could say other worlds are "far behind" because they're actually limited to technology. without magic. so sad for them.]

I'm good. [his arm is still bandaged, and the bruises on his body plus the limp isn't going to go away with some kind of ointment or application. he'll take a painkiller in a bit.] You're the one who took the damage.

[Tragic backstory is what he specializes in listening to. But he isn't going to pry, not now. He watches the other move around and keeps an eye out for any sort of injured moving... but he doesn't see anything. He's glad, since that was the whole point of him taking the damage.]

[Still, things here are weird. He's not certain.]

Yeah... just wanted to make sure. I don't want to send you off without helping you, if I can.

[Maybe he's a little too concerned over someone he just met, but this is just how he is. He can't help but feel protective over everyone he meets.]

[asides from the limp on one side, dabi's not showing much more wear and tear outside of the bandages and covered bruises. aka: nothing more than he came in with. so nara'a's succeeded in being his heroic self and protecting the other person. he's not getting thanks for it though, just some treatment of his own.]

If ya that keen on helpin me, then let's say ya owe me a favor later on.

[on the one hand, he could brush it off, but if this guy's going to be concerned with repayment enough to keep bringing it up (and turning down the wardrobe rock), then dabi offers another solution.

[It's in his nature. But he considers the offer for a moment. Owe someone like him a favor? He's not sure that's a good idea. He's heroic, not stupid. Hmmm...]

Fine, but I get the chance to reject it if I think it's going to hurt people.

[And 'hurt' is broad intentionally. He's not going to do something for the other without consideration.]

But that works. You did something for me, I'll do something for you.

[He'd give Dabi one if he had an empty one, but he doesn't. He's not that good at aetheric engineering.]
