We're sleepers, of course we're dreaming.
[A shrug of his shoulders as his hands dip into his pockets and he leans against the wall near the window, head tilted back and for all the world relaxing.]
I was following someone, I came across it then. Didn't work, smashed. It had what I needed.
[The rest makes sense and Shigaraki is already righting himself from his small resting place to slowly walk the rows and make his way back toward the door. He shrugs his shoulders. Well, if Dabi didn't want a steady supply, he wasn't going to be the one to tell him he's missing out.]
Novelty things that came with me from the last place. They're something you don't have to put through an SCP just to get better value when they're free. I don't want them. Plain and simple. No strings.
[One of his hands comes from his pocket to wriggle his fingers in the air. Puppet strings? Get it? AFO Joke? No? Yeah. Back in the pocket it goes.]
no subject
Don't think that's what "sleepers" mean...
[if this is all some shit dream, then he'd like to wake up right now. it's a little easier---ironically---to see himself as getting knocked out of his world and timeline, displaced to another reality, than to think this is some dream.]
Remember where it was? Some sleepers arrive with items from their homeworlds. Coulda just been one of those.
[he ha no clue. he's seen some interesting items washing up on the farther shores and has added them to his collection for trading. and no, he isn't interested in dealing with collecting blood from people; he's not some fucking vampire. besides, he can farm his own now if he really wants.]
SCP?
[what has he said about using stupid video game lingo on him? the fact these things are from the world tomura came from, however, keeps his interest.]
All right. I can take 'em off ya hands.
no subject
Wouldn't it be nice
if we were olderto be able to just wake up and go home? That'd be great. He'd take that.]I followed someone I knew to a graveyard, talked to them and found it on the way to where I was staying. I haven't looked at street signs to tell you.
[He's said he is no fun and doesn't do fun things and never had fun in his entire life and that he's a loser who never played a fun game in his life. That's what he's said.]
Good. I'll call you when I get them. They're not on me.
[The wander of his feet takes him toward the door.]
Let's go for that walk.
no subject
dabi isn't sure if that's gross or amusing to know shigaraki trailed someone to a graveyard.]
This whole place is a damn graveyard.
[but he doesn't chase after the line of questioning, writing it off as a once-off thing and not banking more on it. that aside... he had fun once upon a time. now his version of "fun" is different.
still doesn't explain what SCP is! have a dumb-faced blink. okay.]
Gotcha. [he'll accept that. dabi goes around shutting shutters and curtains and shades to block out the place again, making sure all the locks are in place and sealed, before finally joining shigaraki at and out the door.]
Watch ya feet.
[tripwire.]
no subject
yes. This whole place gives him reason to want to lash out if only because he's a giant manchild who isn't getting his way. Not wrong again. The whole place is a place of death and they've been through this before. Shigaraki has repeated himself, but all the same he meant it. It was a graveyard, an actual one. Strange things happening in it and all the rest. Well, strange as this place gets, maybe. It's something in the interim. Shigaraki gets that much, and at least it will keep this population from turning on Dabi if he's got something to occupy his hands that aren't just corpses. If there had been one thing said right between him and that girl was that he'd still fight for the people in the league even if they wouldn't fight for him.
AN SCP IS THINGS THAT ARE FUN that Dabi never-- well he may like some of them.
Shigaraki's eyes look down at the floor and then again toward the barelythere wire across it, raising his eyebrow as he carefully steps over it.]
Is that one for free or are you going to warn me about the other ones? It's been a long time since I've had to regenerate a whole limb.
no subject
dabi can't just go around and kill willy-nilly here as he could back home, because this place is smaller and it's a lot easier to identify and find him. he'd probably end up backed in a corner of everything turned on him, so best make himself valuable in other ways.
wow. that's so descriptive. so an scp would be a lighter and a cigarette? those are fun.]
I'd've warned ya about the others if ya got near them. But since ya stuck close to me, wasn't necessary.
[he locks up the house, locks up the key, and slips the master key into his pocket. then heads up the nigh-hidden walkway to go back out to the main road through the overgrown neighborhood.]
no subject
None of them can, or neither of them can. He has no clue what's going on with Toga and is trying hard not to even think of it.
Object class, safe, SCP 403. At least, the lighter, the rest there's never a certainty of but maybe that'd be classed SCP 403-1. Lesson of the day is still nothing fun allowed in Dabi's life.
Shigaraki makes a face about the wording that his companion used.]
I had to follow you, how else was I going to?
[No he absolutely 'stuck close'. Just like he's doing right then and watching out preemptively for any traps that he otherwise wouldn't have seen before.]
I'll give in that a lot of the corners of this place can be peaceful, quiet almost.
no subject
it's not made any easier knowing there are two toga's now... but dabi's very good at going with the flow. easy enough to accept it as "whatever" and move on since it's not that important to him. shit happens.
oy... they have very different versions of "fun" in their lives. and he has his fun. you should see him playing cards and gambling at the bars.]
I mean ya didn't go wanderin off on ya own through the house.
[let him take that ominous suggestion as he will. dabi is one of those people who'd rather see his hard work go up in flames so no one else can enjoy the fruits of his labor than step aside and let someone else take it over once he's gone.]
Yeah. Graveyards tend to be pretty quiet.
[the other homes in the neighborhood range from surprisingly-kept for being abandoned and almost completely consumed by the woodlands around it. the place has a mixture of enchanting grove and haunted forest take depending on how one wanted to look at it.]
I got a few other places, but the majority is here.
[he's smart enough to squirrel away things for emergencies, but isn't going to bother keeping a massive network. in the end, he can survive in trench without all this modern convenience store junk. would prefer not to, but you know...]
no subject
Maybe if he gets bored he'll watch him play his game of go fish or whatever it is. You know, not for the need for familiar company or anything, just to be amused when Dabi undoubtedly trounces someone with no need for quirk.
And don't call him out. How dare.]
I didn't want to upset the staff.
[Wandering on through said neighbourhood keeps him on his toes a little and while the closeness isn't for being alert, it's to keep pace this time.]
You know, it pisses me off how easy you make this look. 'It doesn't matter' only sits so well until I can't convince myself of it. If it doesn't matter, then what matters here?
[That's not something Dabi can make him understand or might have an answer for.]
Is it really being a broker for you with your brother right here?
no subject
both loony vamps are weird.
oy, don't go bitching at him for not joining in on your video games and then sit back and say you won't be suckered into playing cards with a bunch of other shady individuals. (and truth be told, dabi's... not the greatest at cards, so usually he just manages to break even cause his poker face is good.)
he dares easy.]
What a thoughtful guy.
[doubts he'll ever get "staff" in his business, but hey, who knows. maybe shigaraki will want to dust the med cabinets. dabi doesn't bother slowing his gait, despite having a bit longer legs than his ally.]
Whatever ya wanna make matter. [dabi slips his hands in his pockets, leaning forward in his usual predatory stalk.] You're the one who decided what ya goal was gonna be after talkin to that green kid in the mall. Ya did it once; you can do it again.
[for dabi, surviving was what mattered, and living in relative comfort while spiting the expected rules here by refusing to give up is blood for things, whether that was through stealing or trading other goods. his life was a big middle finger in a lot of ways.
the other part earns a slightly more wry expression. didn't really expect that...]
The hell's that supposed to mean?
no subject
Hey, sitting and watching is great. Playing cards hasn't ever been his thing when he couldn't hold them all in one hand before. It became boring thanks to that when he was younger. Give him a break.
Dusting is what he does.
lol]I'm like that.
[No he isn't and that's the joke. He's used to walking with Dabi, sometimes in tow and otherwise ahead of him lighting the way. Walking like this isn't too bad, it keeps things quicker than what he would've picked anyway.
He wishes, sometimes, that things said like this were Dabi actually giving a half damn, but he knows more than anything, or feels like, it's just him one step away from 'get your shit together'. Maybe Shigaraki's reading into it, maybe Dabi knows he would, too and that's the 5D chess that he knows and finds annoying and driving within his ally.]
My endgame goal was destroying the symbol of peace, showing the world that their heroes weren't the gods they thought they were. He's here, too, just like part of your questline. The NPCs are different, the goals aren't. Weighing out if we can make it count back home is what the difference is. You can't tip the scales from here, but can you really put that aside here? I'm not asking about your resolve, he's not dead so I know your resolve. If the number one loser showed up tomorrow, would you still be a broker, Dabi? Could you?
no subject
cards aren't the only gambling game that's played in goat's turning. they got dice games, guessing and tracking games (which cup's it under?), even some versions of slot machines that dabi's not bothering going near. but yeah, card games are the most prevalent.
wrong "dusting", dumbass.
maybe he does give half a damn. after all, dabi's one of the league members who was neither exasperated by twice's antics enough to shove him away, nor was he mean enough to not give credit to the other members where it was due, commenting on them doing their jobs well in a curt way, but also not afraid to tell them to shut up and get their act together. he's got no problem given the same commentary to his boss. this conversation seems to be going an interesting way...]
Yeah. Wouldn't be hard. Though I might be more willin to trade shit for information and favors that'd help me take that thing out than I would just tryin to break even on my stock. Mind ya, I ain't a "broker" like it's a full-time job. It's somethin I'm doin on the side, cause I ain't about to shack up with the Hunter guild and Night walkin ain't entirely lucrative.
But ya know, just cause Endeavor was alive and "well" back home, didn't mean I went after him like a rabid dog in person all the time. I know when to wait and better my chances.
no subject
Luckily for Shigaraki, truth be told. A lot of the reason people went with it was just that and Tomura never wanted it, he was being too childish but now with people being peeled away he isn't sure what he wants regarding them. He knows what he's wanted worlds over and the difference is day and night now that he's had time to do more than be a violent overachiever. At home he hasn't had a chance to sit and think about it and won't let himself. Maybe that can be his job. Sit and think for once about anything but world-ending goals. Which, knowing it or not, Dabi is helping him to do....Okay well, at least he won't be bored.
As if he wouldn't go.
]:)
For once and only once I don't mean "broker" as an insult. Information and favours are still brokering. What you've done is nothing short of impressive for a lazyass.
[He can't be all nice, can he? After hearing the rest of it, though, Tomura is quiet and he's contemplating, even if he's doing his damnedest to keep up to this tallass bastard without looking like a toddler lagging behind.]
Mm, there are things I can still do where both are concerned. Both is the only way forward. Remind them they're on borrowed time and find my own way. I don't trust them not to be the first swing.
[Alright, for as much shit as he gives Dabi he's not that bad. Not terrible at least. After fight one there's never been fight two.]
I have one more question for you about home.
[Made as a statement or not, he's asking without asking if he can....... ask?]
no subject
instead, it all burns down to endeavor.
but unfortunately for him, endeavor's not here. so... he has to make a somewhat new life for himself here. and figure out what 'dabi' is to do in a world where his source of survival is no longer around. well, obviously he's going to survive until he can get back home; that part alone is easy enough to decide and focus on. selfish, but hey, so's he.
c'mon. gambling's fun.]
Awww, ya worried about hurtin my feelin's, boss? I'm touched. [granted, dabi's never thought "broker" to be an insulting term in the first place. he always thought it was just one of those villainous job titles. like assassins or fences or drug dealers or prostitutes. though he has to roll his eyes at the "impressive for a lazyass" comment.] Careful. I might think ya actually complimentin me.
[too bad for tomura, dabi's not bothering to slow down. then again, he's also never been one for fast walking, stalking along with his normal languid and lazy pace. walks with the air of a man who doesn't care how long it takes him to got one place to another so long as everyone around him knows he's going to get there, come hell or high water or whatever's in his way.]
Who's "them" ya talkin about? If ya meanin the Hunter guild and the Night Walkers, I don't think either of them are on borrowed time. They ain't half bad either. Not as creepy as the doctors in the Lumenarium and I ain't gonna shack up with the scholars.
[tomura lost him with the "first swing" comment; he's confused if the man's talking about people and things here in trench or if it's something back home. or if it's just another gaming terminology that always goes over his head, dammit...]
Uh-huh. [well, he's certainly free to ask anything he wants. there's no promise dabi'll be in a divulgitory mood.]
no subject
Neither of them do, but they've got things they need to get home for, no matter what the reasons are.
Fiiiiiiine. No bitching when he beats you tho. Just expect bitching if he loses.]Mmh. [A non-responsive response. In this instance it's a rare show of actually not being a complete asshole where his allies are concerned.] Good thing you know better.
[A tick of his eyes only looks to see if Dabi is bullshitting him asking him that question.]
You know who they are, you know who them are and especially when I say take first swing. The annoying little bastards.
[They don't get names. They get 'annoying bastards'.]
The same annoying bastards that I'm hoping you're going to tell me we've beaten.
no subject
getting home is the ultimate goal, though surviving is the means to that end. dabi's not sure 'how' they're going to get home, but that's more a community problem than an individual one. let them figure that out; he'll ride the coattails.
would this be a good or bad time to say dabi's not exactly "the best" card player out there...]
Ain't like I wasn't paying attention to ya this whole time.
[dabi makes a habit of watching his allies as well as his enemies. only an idiot would turn a blind eye to someone who said they were there to "help" yet is also a known killer.
and no, he's not bullshitting. he's honestly confused. stop with the fucking pronouns, jeeze.]
The kids? [dabi lifts his hand in a waive of dismissal.] I ain't got a quarrel with them here. So long as they don't get in my way.
[whether that's disappointing to shigaraki or not, he doesn't really care. he's not looking to strike out at a buncha hero brats who 1) aren't doing jack shit to them, and 2) will just come back with the next tide.]
Take it ya askin about home with that one. [dabi stretches his arms over his head.] Hard to say. We killed some heroes, but most of our forces got stopped. [give him a second to think, before-] Almost 17,000 villains captured, and a little over 20 heroes killed.
no subject
A bad time. Tomura is going to count those cards so hard.A soft sigh leaves him as Dabi professes not to have been listening sometimes. Or rather paying attention. Yeah that tracks. He's quiet as he hears Dabi dismiss it. No, he's not exactly disappointed, it's not like he's gone hunting them down and he definitely could when Search isn't malfunctioning. Still otherwise quiet again when the man confirms for him the worst of it for everyone else.]
They were always just disposable AI when it came to anything else I wanted. As long as everyone worthwhile that's left after Twice is still alive I don't care.
[Not to imply he cares about those left either
he does. Alright he has his answer. Dabi's given him that much and what he feels is a little more by just the time spent walking to clear his head.]Equally doesn't matter here, it's just my curiosity getting the best of me. I don't think we get to remember if we go back here.
no subject
maybe they won't realize what he's doing...he isn't surprised to hear that response from shigaraki. despite being prone to violence when he wants, dabi's pretty laid back about things, not going after people unless he has a reason to. that he isn't seeking to really fuck up their mutual annoyances from back home likely isn't something his boss had been hoping to hear? that's simply his nature. too bad. he doesn't need much a reason to get aggressive, but if he's staying away from them... easy to ignore.
onto other issues.]
Mister's gone, the Giant's gone, only the Lizard, the lunatic, you and I are left of the original group. [shigaraki can decide who's "worthwhile" from that small bunch. losing twice still annoys him. dabi had plans for that guy...
the neighborhood around them continues to show different signs natural growth, some houses swallowed, some still clear, though none really displaying any show of people regularly living within them. it's a place dabi feels save enough to stash the main collection of his goods.]
Ya mean, go home, and come back?
[he doesn't sound happy to entertain that idea.]
no subject
They can only ignore them until they can't, but yes the more important thing is the thing that ticks his eyes to Dabi's face. Why Dabi would lie is above and beyond him, but with how mix and match Shigaraki's brain has been... It's all of them. All of them that were left were worth while. "The Giant" wasn't a loss as much as a loss of a powerful pawn that they worked hard on. Gone doesn't feel great where Mister is concerned.]
Who killed Mister?
[As for going back... Shigaraki looks back to the pathway instead, striding along beside Dabi, putting his hands back into his pockets for the time being.]
We don't have a choice. There's only been one place I had a choice and I ended up being drug somewhere else shortly after. Then here. If we go back home, we don't get to take what we remember from here.
no subject
he meant the figurative underground. you know, mafia, yakuza, crime lords, shady business, black markets. fuck, man.
oh. wrong term.]
He wasn't dead last I saw him. But he carved off his own ass and side to get free, so unless the heroes rushed him to the hospital or some healin treatment, he probably bled out on the way. Gonna say he made it though.
[so technically, if he died, mister killed mister. there hadn't been reports of his death on the winds? just those captured and the few (in comparison) that remained at large or unreported.]
Was wonderin about that. Didn't think we would, otherwise ya would've said something back there already.
[people don't just pop off to other worlds, come back, and not say shit about it. well, some do, and get locked up in insane asylums. but this is a different beast altogether.]
no subject
At least Mister isn't dead. Or Dabi supposes he isn't and is relaying as much, but losing half his body isn't Mister's forte. His arm was enough and even that pissed Shigaraki off.]
He's one of them that they captured, then. Any word on Kurogiri?
[The sigh that he gives off is a larger one. Chances are, heroes won't let him die, but then there's Jin to consider and he was killed for his usefulness. Then again he was being used for it too.]
I would've. I have ample information that would be helpful if I could get it home.
[Or wanted to go 'home' at all. He prefers the world where he has everyone under his thumb and could twist it at any point.
Also his gaming setup is there.]no subject
he can't tell if mister compress is dead or not, so all he can give is the last he heard of him. alive. the heroes were probably giving him priority, since they want him to talk as well. the guy was well enough to joke about throwing his ass at people when he was caught so... seemed good enough spirits?]
Nah. Still captured for all we know. All for One has some plans for him, but won't tell anyone not directly involved with 'em.
[even among his own men, the man likes to keep things close to heart and his own contingency plans a well-controlled secret. dabi doesn't blame him. "trust" is not something he'd ever think all for one gave out fully to anyone. jin was killed for the threat he produced, not so much usefulness to the heroes. dabi's pretty sure hawks would've kept him alive if he wasn't multiply like rabid horny rabbits... then again, hawks is hawks.]
But since ya can't, what're ya gonna do? Write it down in a book somewhere?
[hope that book somehow manages to transcend time and space and somehow end up back home?
wow. your video games. what priorities.]no subject
That does seem like good and high spirits for Mister.]He doesn't tell his plans to anyone until they're enacted. That's why his plans are flawless, he plans them perfectly. Even if it seems the opposite.
[Though, he's not sure where the overtaking of his own body is supposed to lead. He knows that much of it and that much of it is all he knows. The thought of writing things down brings a small laugh from him.]
Yeah. That'll work, good idea.
[
Hey he's got to maintain high scores and his SR.]No. It wouldn't matter anyway, whatever we do, we can win as long as we keep our eyes open.
no subject
Don't suck up. The heroes have messed with his plans plenty; he's got so many contingencies and other routes, it only seems like the plan went on uninhibited.
[something all for one had personally chided dabi about before "enlightening" him to his m.o. of machinations. always another route. always another pawn. always another method to reach his end goal.]
Ya don't sound like ya doin much else. Consider it an exercise or somethin.
[giving life advice while he's over here peddling in stolen goods and killing monsters for a living.]
Yeah? [that last comment earns a brief snort.] What're we winnin here?
no subject
Mh. He planned for those things to happen. It's one in the same. I don't think there's anything he didn't think of, it's not sucking up, it's realising.
[A roll of his eyes is the most of the answer there. He certainly doesn't think Dabi is serious.]
Great idea, I'll start journaling just so you can be an asshole about it. Nice try.
[Tomura pauses in his steps, just watching Dabi take one or two more before catching up easily. Easily as he can.]
Here nothing, I meant at home. Here we're winning the chance to go back and finish what we started.
