11 . clockhouse rebuilding!

Who: Those who have offered to help rebuild the Clockhouse, and anyone else who'd like to pitch in!
What: An open mingle log to repair after fires and floods.
When: Throughout September, precise dates not specified.
Where: In Gaze, at the forest's edge.

[ When the weather and chaos dies down, work on the Clockhouse picks up. The building was once an old Deerington mansion, luridly green and eccentric; age faded it into half a ruin, and July's fire did the rest. August's flooding came fast and hard, and now there's very little left to salvage.

The first step has been a damage assessment, with volunteers picking through the structurally unstable ruins, finding singed fiction novels, crisped houseplants, and a weird number of melted grandfather clocks. Demolition goes quickly, while Ozpin stands by and does not even try to control the situation.

Volunteers are needed to design the new structure, carry in materials, and build... and then to decorate and enchant what they've created. The few Sleepers with genuine construction experience provide direction, Ozpin sometimes among them, but things are largely chaotic. A few Sleepers provide snacks and cheerleading.

[ You can bet that Ange is going to stop by the drafting table sooner or later.

.. or rather, she shows up there later. She's probably been busy helping direct some other people into helping first, and - perhaps more importantly - she first has to make sure some other people stop by Michael first.

Just so she can supervise. Not over Michael's work, mind you, since she trusts him. But Ange shows up with her hands on her hips all the same to ask: ]

Did anyone make a weird request?

[ She will throttle them if necessary. ]

You know you're basically obligated to tell me if someone did. It's the friend code. [ Is it, Ange. Is it really. ]

A clock tower? Is that weird?

[No weirder than anything about the previous house, in Michael's opinion!]

Passable.

[ That seems to be her quick judgement. After all, it's not like their previous house didn't basically look like a clock tower either.. Or the house the Adams Family resides in.. ]

I guess having clocks all over the place is unavoidable anyway with Ozpin being involved. That guy seems to have some weird fascination with them. [ Don't say it like that, Ange.

Though it is objectively a little weird. ]

I'm not even sure why, honestly.

[Shrug!]

It's a dramatic touch. Though I think you could have one on the house without it being...the entire house. A smaller one, maybe. [...] Though Ruby wants to have a sniper's nest in it.

[entreats]

[ There's a sharp intake of breath when Michael arrives at that last part. ]

Hey, you didn't mention that part to me! [ .. please, Ange, it's since you only just asked about it.. You can't expect Michael to tell you that much at once!

And yet she's instantly pouty all the same.. ]

I do hope she at least considered that from the perspective of keeping everyone in the house safe, and not just because she thought it'd be fun..

[ Because with a girl like Ruby, who is both protective and a total ditz, that honestly could go either way. ]

Oh, yeah. Said she'd shoot any more toddlers who came to commit arson.

[Not exactly what she said...but not really that far off either!]

[ It wouldn't be the weirdest thing Ruby has ever said.

Which is why Ange is instantly willing to believe it when it comes out of Michael's mouth. ]

I was thinking more about something a little more elegant like a ward spell.. [ Even if Ange may not be good at those. But she's got witch friends to ask for help! ] How is anyone supposed to get all the way up there to the sniper spot though? Are you just going to make a set of really tall stairs or something?

[ Hey, Michael's the architect.

Ange knows nothing about designing houses. She will gladly let the expert speak. ]

...I mean, yeah. That's usually how people get up towers. Unless you want an elevator...?

[He wasn't going to make it tall to the point that you couldn't climb it! Though, he supposes, shit happens. Maybe elevators are a good idea nonetheless.]

I'm not the one who's going to sit up there with a sniper rifle. [ Just saying!!

Though honestly, Ange is pretty sure it's not like Ruby would mind stairs either. That girl has way too much energy for her own good in the first place. ]

It's just that stuff gets so weird here sometimes [ and even more so with some of her housemates' suggestions.. ] that it's kind of refreshing to think about something as normal as stairs for once. Instead of.. you know. Some weird blood teleportation device or whatever.

[ Yes, lamps exist here, but don't ruin the point like that by thinking too hard about it. It's just about his place's ridiculous aesthetic and inventions. ]

You could always install one of those later.

Don't say that too loudly.

[ Not that Michael is being loud.

But even when saying that at a normal volume, you never know who's listening here. Either one of the more chaotic of Ange's housemates, or.. ]

You never know when a Pthumerian suddenly decides they feel like dabbling in house construction.

[ And that's the worst possible chaotic force on top of what's already all going on here. ]

[Michael cackles lightly.]

Okay, okay. Regular stairs it is. I'm not really a clock guy, you know, you may have to get someone else to set all that up.

[entreats]

[ Ange seems to consider this for a brief moment, and then asks: ]

Could it really be that hard?

[ Granted, she knows absolutely nothing about installing clocks either.. when you've lived the rich life all your life, you never really consider the woes of having to install everything in your own home. ]

I mean, I could probably just conjure up a clock and have it be.. there. [ Followed up by a vague hand gesture. ] Unless it needs something to work. [ How do clocks work?! Ange sure doesn't know. ]

[Michael - who is also accustomed to just conjuring up whatever he wants, even if Trench has limited that somewhat - mulls this over for a second.]

Gears?

Fine, then I'll conjure up some gears in there. Throw them in there, it'll probably work.

[ No. ]

Or maybe I can just convince Ozpin of the irony of having a clocktower with a clock that doesn't actually work. He's just the kind of guy who would probably see some sort of dumb meaning in that. [ Maybe not.. the nicest thing to say about someone..

But it also doesn't sound like Ange is necessarily actively trying to insult the guy. Her tone is still pretty flat as she says it, after all, with no active dislike or anything of the sort in it.

It's just that Ozpin's deepness sometimes reminds her a little bit too much of the witches back home, and not in good ways. ]

That'd sure make things a whole lot easier.

Oh! It's symbolic?

[It's a little funny, but Michael doesn't seem to think it's worth much mockery either. Everyone has their weird things.]

Yeah, I think I could make a clock facade just fine. If nothing else, I'm sure somebody around here knows how to make one go.

[ Ange shrugs. ]

I'm not sure what it is for him. [ And she's not entirely sure she wants to know.

Everytime she finds out something about Ozpin, it's just weird. Maybe it's since he's an old man or something. ]

Maybe he'd be really offended by clocks that don't actually work. Or maybe he won't care. I really don't know him well enough to say.

[ But she does know enough to make one conclusion, in the usual deadpan Ange style: ]

Either way, it's kind of dumb.

[ Thanks... Ange..... ]

[Michael chuckles. He doesn't know the guy well enough to really care!]

I'll have to track him down and ask. Or we can just do whatever. Is he paying for this?

[Are people getting paid? Michael never asked for payment, he doesn't care, but probably someone is.]

[entreats]

I don't think anyone is paying.

[ .. not that she's sure about that, mind you. Ange may have sent the initial question about helping them out into the world, but she knows Ozpin gathered everyone here in the end, so she's not too sure what he told people..

Which.. honestly.

It makes this the perfect moment to play a small joke on the old guy. ]

But you should ask him for payment. [ Ange leans a little closer towards Michael, dropping her tone to a semi-whisper. ] Just to see his face. [ Not that she's even sure Ozpin would pull some funny face, but..

Well, there's a chance. And it'd be fun! ]

[Michael grins.]

Maybe I will, then. [Conspiratorially:] Architects are really expensive, you know.

[entreats]

[ .. there's a pause, and something about Ange's expression seems to - momentarily - suggest that she is definitely thinking are they?

Look, you don't grow up rich without getting the 'it's a banana, how much could it cost, ten bucks?' mindset and have no idea how much anything in life costs at all.

It's nothing she lingers on though, instead saying: ]

Good, you should make him sweat a little. Though it's probably hard, since I've never really seen him look anything but weirdly calm before.

[ Then again, Michael is a demon. A reformed demon, sure, but..

This stuff is still supposed to be his speciality, right. ]

[He cackles a little. Yeah, he's reformed and all, but he's never been above messing with people a bit.]

I'll see what I can do.

Thanks, I knew I could count on you.

[ Knowing demons has its benefits. That's something Ange has known for a long time now. ]

I guess I should go back to looking around now. Just to make sure Ruby isn't hiding any secret slides around the house, or something. [ You never know with that girl... ]

Alright. I'll keep you up to date - it's going to be a while before we're ready to start building, anyway.

[Granted, normally the process would involve a lot more bureaucracy, so it won't be THAT long...but you at least need finalized plans!]
