Always give without remembering
Who: Simidele, Saeri, and YOU
What: Simidele thinks he has a flawless plan to help Saeri make friends and it involves gifting runestones and/or crystals to anyone he meets! That means you, and you, and yes, even you! When she remembers to look for them he's going to be in so much trouble...
When: Last week of September
Where: All over Trench
Content Warnings: Memory issues, possible language, overeager dumbass omen shenanigans
[It had all be so unfair. He'd had plans. Saeri never celebrates her birthday and he'd had just the plan to turn that around! Only for them to even forget she had a birthday for WEEKS. And by the time she remembered--and he remembered with her--it was days later and the moment for his perfect birthday surprise had passed. He couldn't reclaim it again. How was he supposed to get Saeri more friends when she kept avoiding spending time with new people? How was he supposed to show people what she brought to the friendship table?
Then Saeri had bumped into one of her dangling bowls of runestones and knocked one out of the bowl to the ground, a cooling stone that immediately caused ice to crackle across the floor. The air around it was so cold it fogged, but the reaction was brief before the power in it faded. While Saeri grumbled and cursed, hiphopping around to avoid stepping on it before she picked it up, the inspiration struck him. The answer to their problem was right there.
Unfortunately, he had to wait...and wait. For all of two days. TWO WHOLE DAYS. For Saeri to be busy enough to not notice the noise he made getting one of the baskets down. It was filled with stones and crystals with single use runes on them. Saeri used them in her experiments as one time additives, but surely other people would find them useful?
And so he struck out. Whether slinking casually down the streets of Wilfull Machine, or flying over to one of the other districts, the strapped of the bowl tight in his teeth. If he saw someone he thought might be a good friend, he would approach them immediately, earnest and proud.]
You look like you could use some magic! My friend is giving these away, do you want one?
[Please listen to him and accept his gift! No, he doesn't know what exactly each stone done--he would if he bothered to look at them, but who has the time to look at all the runes when he was on a mission?--but they were single use. They couldn't be that dangerous, certainly. But he knew he had to get rid of all of them before Saeri realized what he did and came looking.
So he had probably an hour. Plenty of time.]
{OOC: None of these runestones or crystals are particularly powerful. They are single-use runes powered by different blood types and other magical properties. The power in them will only last for a very short while once activated or in one burst of energy. Just be careful about grabbing that lightning stone, oops. Saeri is going to be hunting Simidele down and all of the people he gave stones and crystals to.}

What is different, is his following response to it; this doesn't seem the situation where he should start patting his four-legged visitor, with the bowl of...somethings in its mouth, the offer that makes Robby glance at its contents, but not immediately guess what they are. ]
Is this an experiment?
[ ...He might be a little cautious, unsure, (definitely confused,) of what to make of this offer. This blue guy seems friendly? But he also knows where 'free' offers like this can lead.
But!! He's willing to listen! ]
no subject
[He's trying to look at innocent as a giant predator cat with wings can, but he is very earnest.]
These runestones and crystals can perform magic. Pick one and you'll get a cool magical trick.
no subject
...
... He does. He'll pick one at random, already turning it in his hand as he's bringing it up to observe. ] What's even your friend's name?
[ Also, how do magical cool party rocks work. ]
no subject
[Yes, he's very proud. The stone in his hand as a combo rune on it and Simidele paws at the ground when he notices.]
Oh! That's a smoke grenade rune! If you activate it, you have ten second to throw it.
[He isn't exactly sure why Saeri makes those, but best give some warnings.]
no subject
...does it work after you use it a first time?
[ Does he kind of want to see it in action but also not waste it?? YES. (But alas, it may not be very smart - they are in public.) ]
no subject
You can if you recharge the magic, but they don't last as long. The magic isn't as strong, but it'll do. Probably can't manage it a third time, though. It's still really cool, though, right?
no subject
Yeah, it is. [ Robby will just be impressed by the concept, kneeling to not have so much height on the omen. ] We don't have anything like this where I'm from. [ Well. ] Magic. Runes. Just something like this is cool. [ He's been twisting it in his hand, but stops when he looks at the omen. ] What else does she make?
[ Because you know, he'd feel a little better at least knowing who this birthday girl Saeri is, than just being reverse-gifted a rune by their omen. And maybe that's what the omen's hoping for too -- for people to take an interest in their....owner person. ]
no subject
The golems she makes are like robots, most of the time. Only they run on magic instead of circuits. She even makes some that can--
[He cuts himself off just then because he knows he's been found. Saeri is right there and not looking amused.]
--there you are!
[He's going to act like he wasn't hiding from her. Because of course he wasn't.]
Simi, if you keep running off, I'm going to ground you.
no subject
They were trying to celebrate someone's birthday in their own way. [ And maybe Robby can help with that, a tip of his head, trying to smooth over some mischief with its good intentions. He nods to the girl in greeting. ]
I'm guessing you're Saeri? You're their biggest fan.
[ Heh. ]
no subject
Yeah, I'm Saeri. Sorry this idiot tried to drag you into whatever plot he's got going on. [She bends down to pick up the basket, which Simidele tries to swipe back. She holds it above his head easily. He may be a big predator cat-bird, but she's still over six foot.]
So just what kind of celebrating was he up to?
[Yeah, Simidele you're in for it.]
no subject
He was just telling me what you get up to. [ But even if that third option could have been trouble for Robby? He ain't a snitch, and he stands -- at 5'7, b-but reaching for that '8...!! ] He was telling me about some golems you make, and trying to show me your work- [ He gestures to the runes she's taken back. ]
But I don't come from a world with them or magic. This whole-- everything? [ This time, he waves a hand at that surroundings. ] I'm, uh, kinda new to it. But it sounds cool to me. You made a smoke bomb with a stone.
[ And his impressed tone is sincere, his eyebrows even raising at it. Like hey, golems? Magical runes? Cool stuff. ]
no subject
[She always feels a bit weird arguing with her omen in front of people--arguing with a part of yourself in public is going to be weird no matter what--but she can't help it with Simidele. He's just always doing things that make her want to hang him upside by his tail feathers. Can't he just not be so...HIM? Her birthday was like a week ago, why was he doing this now?
But at least this Robby guy isn't being weird about it. It takes her attention off her so-in-trouble omen to focus on him instead.]
I've met a few people around here who come from worlds without magic. [Or so they think. She picks one of them up, holding it up with her left hand, metal a bit scuffed and in need of a polish.] The basics are pretty simple. You could make stuff like this yourself if you wanted. Runes are easy and blood magic works really well with inscribed spells.
[She releases her fingers then, as if to let the stone drop, only for it to stick to her hand.]
See? Magnetized.
no subject
But hey. It's Trench. Know what's way more interesting and cool? Sticky rocks. He hadn't even paid a second look at her fiddling with the stone, or not close enough attention -- until it's actually clinging to her, and there it is: an impressed reaction. ]
Magnetised, [ he repeats. Huh! The first time he's seen someone with a metal hand, too, but he doesn't over-linger on it. ] So that has blood magic in it, or it's all-- spells? Magic you know?
[ She said spells, and he's repeating, trying not to sound too stupid by what's probably a basic concept. ]
no subject
[She grabs the stone with her right hand and pulls it off with a sharp tug. It causes a screech which lets her know the palm is going to have more scrapes on it.]
Mixing the blood types sometimes gets you better results depending on the kind of magic you're looking for. Like coldblood works better for fire and ice stones.
no subject
I get it, so- vileblood's...poison, right? [ Ah. There's a pause. ] And I don't actually know what paleblood does.
[ Huh. He knows it exists, but... ]
no subject
[She thinks Vileblood has a lot of uses even if she has to be extra careful when handling it.]
Paleblood smells like warm milk and is more...spiritual. Less obvious uses. It makes jewelry for rituals and can be used in summonings. And visions. Which probably suck.
no subject
Don't envy them. Always looks like a bad time getting them in the movies. [ Getting a vision, he means. But he's thoughtful, remembers something else she said - even you could learn this. Which sounds easier than he imagines it actually being, and he glances at the runes, nods to them. ]
So, does it matter if you're magic to make them? [ Awkwardly: ] I didn't actually get any magic coming here -- warmblood. [ He holds up his hands, mouth pulling into a thin smile. ] And, uh. I'm not really creative.
[ He's certainly not going to be inventing anything any time soon. ]
no subject
We're all magic. Doesn't matter which blood you have, there's magic inherent to it. Warmblood doesn't have all the special bells and whistles, is all. It's the nice neutral magic where no one pays much attention, but you can use it for a lot of different things. Don't sell yourself short.
no subject
I heard it's good for transfusions, [ which he shares without dislike or begrudging acceptance of the fact; it sounds useful in that. It's good. ] What else can you do with it?
[ Because it still feels like a stark contrast between what everyone else he knows can do, and himself. ]
no subject
[She snags one of the stones out of the basket and holds it out.]
It also mixes with the other blood types really well. I have to use a bit more of it than the others, since the magic is not as strong, but when you're being careful with your measurements, it's great as an incremental additive.
[Sorry, she's using phrases that probably don't make much sense.]
no subject
But also, still sucks that it can't also be a little more magic-y.
Robby does look at her and the stone held out, a permission before he takes it, to look at himself. ]
It isn't better just to use more of the other bloods?
no subject
[No worry about sending herself into shock from poison if she's not using as much of it.]
no subject
So... you mind if I saw how you make them sometime? [ He shrugs slightly, not really in the business of asking how to make magical runes. ] It sounds pretty cool.
[ Stones you can make do magical things? Very cool. But he also gets they just met, and is that weird? Well -- only one way to find out. ]
no subject
Sure. I'll even let you help with a few to get a feel for it.
[Simidele is maybe vibrating with how happy he is right now, to the point his feathers and knocking against her leg and she looks down, giving him such a Stare. Cut it out, why are you so embarrassing??]
no subject
Great. [ He glances at Simidele, but he looks back at Saeri to hold out a hand. ] --I should introduce myself, right? Robby. I showed up this month, new guy; and whenever you're ready to have me, I'll give you my omni info so you can message me. I just hang out with the fishermen and let them bully me into work.
[ So, he has a free schedule. ]
