I wasn't really letting go.

But you're always with other people and even now you're tired of me already.

I know I'm not moving as fast as you'd like... You make it sound easy, but it's not. [His voice wavers.] And I don't know when I'll be forced to live it. If not this time, what about the next?

[jedies]

[ obi-wan blinks. ]

Of course I'm not tired of you, Anakin. I'm simply making friends. Getting to know people. That's all.

And I don't mind that you're not moving fast. I'm willing to be patient as long as you're willing to keep trying.

[facultative]

[He doesn't believe it, but Obi-Wan is being kind and to point out the lie would only further the wedge between them.

His head bobs in a shaky nod as he rubs at the tears welling up.]

Luke doesn't think so.

[jedies]

[ ah. he's not terribly surprised. ]

Luke doesn't have the full picture. He doesn't know.

[facultative]

Neither do you.

[jedies]

I have a better idea than most.

[facultative]

Do you?

[Because he sure doesn't. He can see why he made certain decisions, but he can't trace how he came to those conclusions. Maybe they were right and he was too old to train.]

Because I told the Council. I didn't choose him.

[jedies]

[ obi-wan is patient. ]

Then what happened?

[facultative]

I don't know, I ended up in the dream!

[jedies]

[ ah. ]

That's what I mean by deviation, Anakin. You didn't walk that path.

[facultative]

You don't know what happened after. It could still happen.

[jedies]

[ obi-wan pauses. ]

Will you let it happen again?

[facultative]

Did you have a choice when you lived it?

[He looks up at him, teary eyed and despairing.]

If I don't keep what I know here... I don't know.

[jedies]

[ obi-wan slowly shakes his head. ]

If it happened to you right here, right now . . . would you make those decisions?

[facultative]

No!

[His instinctive response is rash and immediate. His thoughts come slower, showing first in the hesitation across his face.]

...But he's my friend. If he asked for help, I don't know if I could say no.

[To recognise a false offer didn't mean he could so easily discard the years he spent with him.]

[jedies]

[ obi-wan hums. he's glad that anakin reacted instinctively, but also took time to measure out a response. a truthful one. ]

No matter the cost?

[facultative]

[The remnants of the membrane have dried now and he picks at it for something to do while he quietly sniffles.]

What would you do if you didn't like the answer?

[jedies]

Nothing, Anakin. I rather you were honest with me and we can work through it together.

[facultative]

Then no.

[He loved Obi-Wan more and therefore was not willing to do something against him for someone he cared about less.]

Not unless you wanted it too.

[jedies]

[It's a familiar state, but considering it's been ten years for him Anakin was hoping he wouldn't disappoint him so quickly.]

[jedies]

No, Anakin.

I'm concerned. It's a lot of pressure.

[facultative]

[He frowns down at his hands.]

But I've always thought this.

[The only real change was he didn't expect Obi-Wan to do the same for him any more.]

[jedies]

I know.

[ they've talked about it before. ]

But it's dangerous, even for someone like me.
