[ keeping her eyes closed, she scrunches up her face in annoyance at that. ]

I feel like myself. I want shoes.

[ that's the most katherine thing to ever katherine. ]

You want shoes.

( he thinks she'd say that even if she were on her deathbed. shoes would never ever be something that she turned down. )

For what reason?

[manipulative]

[ she doesn't answer immediately, instead taking the opportunity to snuggle into his pillow. she smiles to herself. ]

Because they'll make me feel better.

[ she opens one eye, wanting to see his reaction. ]

Do you want new shoes or do you want me to go get you a pair of shoes you already have?

( he thinks he might know the answer to that one. )

[manipulative]

[ while she'd like a new pair of shoes, that would require her to try them on and test them, and sometimes the shoes simply don't fit her. a new pair of shoes requires a lot of effort.

katherine pouts sulkily. ]

Mine. Nothing strappy. I'm not in the mood for strappy.

[prescind]

( he frowns, crossing his arms. )

Are you going to cuddle with them, Katherine? Because I can get you a stuffed animal for that.

[manipulative]

[ she opens her eyes and rolls them before she scoffs. ]

No.

[ honestly, stefan! this is why he needs to be supervised when around her shoes. his ideas are absolutely questionable.

but she smiles and clears her throat gently. ]

That's why I have you.

[ she's so smooth. ]

So, you're going to wear the shoes and then cuddle me?

( he can't not laugh at the thought. )

Are the shoes going to magically make you better?

[manipulative]

We could see if you went and got them for me.

[ honestly, all this talk and no shoes is making katherine feel even worse. she coughs into her fist for good measure. ]

( he eyes her for a long moment before he finds his way to one of the closets that she keeps her damn shoes in. he looks through the massive array of shoes and picks a pair of heels that aren't strappy and aren't black.

he wonders if katherine even remembers when she bought these. he comes back over with them in his hand. )

[manipulative]

[ prying one eye open, katherine doesn't react to the shoes that he's picked. are they the type of show she'd have chosen? no. she'd have gone for a sharper heel over a wedge.

but they'll do.

she nods. ] They're my sick pair. If you put them by the bed, I'll start to feel better.

[ really, she feels better because he went and got her shoes even though she doesn't need shoes as she's in bed. ]

So, these are like magical wish granting shoes?

( that are going to grant her the wish of feeling better? he laughs under his breath but does as she asks, putting the shoes on the table. )

Are you going to chant over them or something?

[manipulative]

[ she scrunches up her face in distaste. ] No.

[ she glares at him. what kind of sicko was he? clearly, one who didn't know how to shop for himself. everything starts to make sense in time.

she snuggles into his pillow. ] I just want them there for moral support. Put them in the right spot.

[prescind]

I thought I was your moral support.

( and the person who was going to take care of her. but, he does as she asks, putting the shoes down gently. )

Did I lose my job?

[manipulative]

[ she nods. ] You did. You made fun of my shoes.

[ she pouts dramatically as she peers up at him. ]

But you could maybe earn your job back. Maybe.

[prescind]

And how's that?

( don't make him sing and dance, katherine. )

What would I have to do?

[manipulative]

[ christ, she's sick; she doesn't want to subject herself to more torture!

katherine pats his pillow and pouts. ] You cuddle me.

[ she's so miserable and this is the only way she's going to openly admit she's sick. ]

You want a cuddle?

( he can do that. )

It won't make you too hot?

[manipulative]

No.

[ maybe? they'll cross that bridge if it happens. but all katherine really wants is for her shoe-bearing partner to come cuddle her in bed.

but then she frowns. ] What if I'm contagious? Maybe you should keep your distance.

[prescind]

You want me to keep my distance?

( that's a first. but he supposes she might be right. )

I don't know if I really want to do that though.

[manipulative]

You don't?

[ she smiles, hopeful and pleased.

that's what katherine likes to hear. clearly, stefan still finds her irresistible even if her sinuses are going to give out on her in the next few days. ]

No, I don't.

( in fact, he's certain that he doesn't want to keep his distance. )

I think I'll be okay. I think I'll risk it.

[manipulative]

Stefan…

[ this is the part where katherine urges him not to, right? she should. she should be sensible and responsible and encourage stefan to steer clear in case this is a vampire-specific illness…

but she's selfish. ]

I haven't been sick in over five hundred years. [ she pouts. ] Is it meant to feel this awful?

[prescind]

Yeah.

( he says it gently and softly before he sits down beside her. )

And it'll probably get worse before it gets better.

[manipulative]

[ she pouts and slumps into his pillow, unhappy with that news. ]

It's not fair!

[ nothing is ever really fair, especially when it goes against her plans. she had wanted to have a nice night out with stefan, and now she's come back and ruined it all.

she faceplants into his pillow. ]

Being an immortal undead was meant to cheat me out of this!
