Have you celebrated a New Years before?

( because he's pretty sure that's not what happens, wanda. wishes are for birthdays. )

Yes. They had New Years in Sokovia.

[ but she and pietro would always spend it wishing because wishing was always better than not wishing at all.

she crosses her arms against her chest and cocks her brow. ]

Did space have New Years?

Sure they did but we were usually too busy to do anything with it.

( he shrugs. )

What did you do for your New Years?

My brother used to try and get a good meal. And sometimes he would get fireworks, but they were hard to find because of the war.

[ wanda's noticeably more subdued. her new years was not a typical new years, but pietro always made an effort to make it special. if wanda had known she had these abilities, their new years would've been more magical than the party she and amos are at. ]

We used to wish for a better year. It's not as exciting as all of this but it was ours.

Hey, there's something to be said for tradition.

( he smiles at her, genuine and sincere. )

What wish would you make for this year?

[ she'd wish for her brother, her boys, and vision. but that's entirely too heavy of an answer to lug at amos. ]

Another good year.

[ simple. broad, she knows, but wanda doesn't like to wish for specific things anymore. too much disappointment has followed when she does. ]

Even with all of the usual Trench bullshit. [ she laughs. ] That always makes it kind of fun.

Another good year?

( not the worst thing to wish for. he nods, shrugging a shoulder. )

It was a good year last year?

Yes.

[ wanda furrows her brows incredulously as she smiles. ]

Why wouldn't it be? I'm here, I have a house and horses. I have friends. And I have an on-call mechanic.

[ she's come to appreciate the little things in life. ]

( he can hear the crowds around them growing louder and he knows that it's getting closer to midnight. )

And what do you think of midnight traditions?

[ of course, wanda knows what midnight traditions are held on new years. she's participated in some—not many, given everything, but some—and she's seen it on her television shows and movies. she thinks about playing naive, but she doesn't think that's the right path to go down right now. ]

I have heard that it's good luck to follow tradition… especially the midnight ones.

[ that doesn't really give him an answer, does it? she pulls at one of her fingers to summon all of her nervousness to that one point in her being. ]

And I don't want bad luck for next year.

Do you even know what the midnight traditions are?

( because he doesn't want to be the one to suddenly surprise her and end up getting blasted with magic. )

[ she smiles at him and nods, not wanting to make fun of him despite the urge to do so. sometimes he has his moments of being very cute. ]

I do. I didn't go to a lot of parties, but I am very aware that it's bad luck not to be kissed at midnight.

[ she glances around the party. ]

I wonder if there is someone here who can bring you good luck.

You gonna kiss someone at midnight?

( the big question. )

[ despite suspecting that this was where the conversation was leading, wanda's still struck by it like he's tossed a car at her head. ]

If someone's around and wants to.

[ she's not going to go searching for a partner, if that's what he's asking. if someone's around and willing, then they will be her midnight kiss.

she smiles at him as she teases him in an attempt to get the spotlight off of her: ] I bet you have a line of women waiting to kiss you at midnight.

Really?

( amos makes a show of looking around before he shakes his head. )

No, I don't.

[ wanda glances around, but she ultimately looks back at amos. she hadn't expected that to fall as flat as it did. she wrings her hands together. ]

Do you want to kiss someone at midnight?

( he shrugs. )

[ is there an echo in here???

wanda thinks to mimic him and press him with a "do you?" but she thinks he'll consider that as her attempt to avoid the question and also embarrassment. so, she holds one of her hands and brushes her thumb against her palm. ]

Yes.

[ she scrunches up her nose and doesn't look at him. ]

It'd be nice to do one normal thing.

You have anyone in mind for it?

( before he volunteers and all. just to make sure he's not gonna make an ass of himself. )

[ wanda considers parroting his question back to him, but that would be pointlessly annoying. she hadn't thought that far ahead, only getting as far as simply wanting to experience something mundanely normal and traditional for once.

she looks at him and thinks about what would make him blush most.

she smiles. ] You.

( well, he definitely didn't expect her to just be upfront and outright with it.

but he kind of likes that she did. he'd been hoping she would. he doesn't blush but he does laugh a bit, look away and then nod. )

I think I can do that.

[ well. she hadn't quite been expecting that. then again, expecting amos to grow flustered and blush would show how little she understood about him.

wanda presses her lips together and tilts her chin upward. ]

It better be a good kiss. Otherwise, you're dooming my entire new year.

[ does he want that on his conscience? ]

[ she cocks her brow as she looks at him pointedly. ]

You are from space and Baltimore. I have heard people from there don't know how to kiss.

[ she clucks her tongue and shakes her head as though that truly is a shame. ]
