( it's been a little while, stefan realizes, since they've been on a date. they're comfortable and content in their lives and they spend a lot of time dealing with this place's eccentricities but a date?
it hasn't happened in awhile. which is why sefan decides to change that. he sends katherine a message at some point during the day and tells her to meet him at a quiet little diner with good, good food. it's not super fancy but the food is good and the views are nice.
he's got something he has to do beforehand but soon enough, he shows up, wearing a brand new blue shirt and looking for her as he steps in. )
[ she bought new shoes. what? can he blame her? it's date night and she needed new shoes!
they're black heels that might look like a few of the pairs she already has, but they're different. katherine doesn't get overly dressed up, but she looks nice in a dress and with her hair nicely curled and her new shoes. it's a date. she wants to look nice... even though she and stefan seem to have a date every night at home.
when she sees stefan, she smiles at him and pinches the fabric of his very nice shirt. ]
I spotted you a mile away in this shirt. It's very nice.
[ she smiles and bats her eyelashes, twisting her foot this way and that to show off her new shoes. katherine's not even going to pretend to be surprised or appalled that new shoes have somehow ended up on her feet. she bought them. she'll own it. ]
( has he noticed the weird plants popping up all over the place? yes, yes he has. but there's nothing about this city that isn't weird so he just dismisses it as something that will surely come back to bite him in the ass.
but it's not like they have those plants in their home and if they have to sequester themselves inside their home for awhile, so be it.
he's just come back from getting them some dinner that he sets down on the kitchen counters. moving over towards the window, he looks out back at katherine's garden and frowns.
okay, he's pretty sure she hadn't planted those. )
[ she has impeccable timing, she knows. stepping into the kitchen with a plate in hand and nothing left of her apple, she walks to the sink and doesn't look out the window or at stefan. while the trench is being weird again, she decided to sit in the living room with a book (not a journal, so sad) until she grew bored of the story and finished her apple. it's just another day. hopefully no one's a child again; that had been extra creepy. ]
I didn't save any apple for you. Sorry. [ she shrugs and doesn't sound apologetic at all as she turns on the sink and washes her plate. ]
[ she leaves the plate in the sink, turns off the tap, and peers out the window. she immediately furrows her brows tightly as she presses her hands against the lip of the counter to try and see more of the yard. ]
What the fuck!? [ she rushes over toward where he is, almost pressing her nose against the glass. ] My garden didn't look like that before!
[ what was once her neatly pruned and clipped garden has become a monstrous sight. it looks as though weeds have overgrown and that the plants she had been so careful to cut back are wild and untamed. and it looks... alive? ]
( after his conversation with katherine, amos kind of realizes that he's being a giant wimp. he should just go talk to wanda and see what she thinks about this.
if she doesn't want to talk about it, so be it. they don't have to talk about it ever again. but he's done being a chickenshit about this because he doesn't want katherine in his inbox every week, pointing that out.
so, that's why he's there right now, staring at her door.
he hasn't knocked yet. he's just...waiting for the right moment. )
[ perhaps it's a good thing amos hadn't bothered to knock as wanda wasn't inside. she appears behind him via her lantern, a couple of brown paper bags in her hands. it's easy to discern who's at her door—she only knows one person who looks like amos with his big shoulders and bulk.
she's quiet as she walks up the pathway to the steps of her front porch. she considers scaring him, but she doesn't want to scare amos—and he doesn't seem like the type she should scare outside of halloween. she lets the steps creak beneath her light weight as she furrows her brows and smiles at him. ]
Who is winning? You or the door?
[ what a riveting staring contest you have here, amos. ]
[ she smiles and shakes her head as she comes to stand beside him. ]
I'm not always home, no. I might be able to create anything a supermarket has, but sometimes I like to walk around with the basket and look at the shelves.
[ it's a gentle teasing. wanda's always been at home whenever he's come by, and she knows that this is a very big change from the usual.
[ wanda's a little surprised by that, even though she shouldn't be. it's not because she's dead his mind (she hasn't), but that, well… isn't that why amos kind of comes over? ]
Things are fine. I went shopping. [ she furrows her brows as she teases, ] Very riveting story, I know.
( while amos was going to partake in the gambling eventually, right now he was content with sipping a drink especially because it was free.
he's been doing that for a little while now while he surveys the crowd and that's how his gaze falls upon wanda at some table. everyone around her keeps cheering so he can only guess she's on a lucky streak.
he snickers and decides to make his way over to her. )
[ she throws her hands up in the air again as everyone cheers. she fist bumps the young woman beside her and high fives the man on her other side. she can't believe her luck! she's never been gambling before and has only ever seen casinos in the movies and television shows. each time she thinks the dice won't roll on her number, it does, and her pile of winnings continues to grow.
when she's handed the die, everyone shushes each other and crosses their fingers together. as wanda shakes her hand to rattle them, she doesn't toss them despite flicking her wrist. she sees amos. ]
Amos!
[ it's the most excitable she's ever greeted him. she smiles wide and scrunches her nose, and throws her hands up. ]
[ she shakes her head and takes the die to roll it again. it lands on the lucky number and everyone breaks into cheering. ]
I don't know.
[ she smiles at him as she does her best not to jump on the spot. she's never had much, and now that she has so much, she doesn't know what to do with it. ]

( a momentous occasion since it wasn't like he went shopping for clothes like she went shopping for shoes.
shoes that he does notice are new. he laughs and shakes his head. )

( she's already bought the shoes so there's little to do but he's just amused at it all. )
They look nice.
( and like many of her other shoes. )
no subject
[ duh, stefan. she looks at him like he should've known this—and he should've. there's no excuse, given that he's exposed to her shoes every day. ]
I only have second-date and third-date shoes.
no subject
( he shouldn't be surprised but maybe he is. he laughs and shakes his head. she is going to overfill their closets with her shoes. )

Okay, I thought I'd missed out on some dramatic new gardening angle or something.
( because yeah, that looks alive. )
Are they moving?
no subject
I've never seen a plant move like that before.
[ she looks at stefan, then out the door again. ]
It is moving. You can see that?

When did you learn to gamble?
no subject
[ she laughs maniacally, but really, wanda's so happy that she scrunches her nose in elation. she's never this playful. never has been in her life.
as for his question, she shrugs. ]
I don't. I thought I would try to throw the die and then… well…
[ someone comments that she's a natural. that she's just one lucky gal. considering the hand life has dealt her, she is very, very lucky. ]
no subject
( so, her luck is just that good already? that's pretty fortunate. he glances down at the winnings and then at the game before he nods. )
