What, really?! — Okay, okay!!

( her grin is wild now, like a child getting permission to pick up a candy bar or a toy after being tugged around in a shop for hours. jinx giggles ecstatically as she zips around her store to seek for something really good. what could be better than poro at this point? and then she remembers something in the back she had just finished before she closed up shop for a while.

the teen practically b-lines as fast as she can to retrieve it -- she's only gone for maybe a minute until she comes with this in her hands. )

Feast your eyes on this! Fresh outta the market.

( she sets it down on the counter; bouncing in place. )

I saw this bird when I went to the carnival and I just had to make him. Whaddya think? Oh, when you set him... this happens.

( with a little fiddling on the penguin's back (for a few seconds), the bird flaps its flippers up and down with its hat coming off and on. in a cutesy voice, it says in repeat: "hey, it's time to go! hey, it's time to go!" )

[ oh, wow! how sweet, and clever of her— the little penguin moves and speaks. makima takes it in her hands for inspection, and a thorough inspection at that. as she presses a button and sets it down to work its magic, she inclines her attention. ]

You’re truly talented. I’m charmed by the amount of creativity you put into these.

[ they really are great, and she may just take this one, but . . . she should spice it up with a hmmm. ]

A choice between this one and another would help me make my final decision.

( blood seems to be rushing up her cheeks with a light yet noticeable glow in her eyes. she shouldn't be this flustered over a customer complimenting over her work, but with hearing all the wrong she feels she's been doing lately, it's... refreshing. it's nice to know she isn't a complete waste or a burden. )

Another? ( she repeats; surprised and swallowing her blush down her throat. makima wants to see one more thing? shit. what else can she have at this point? because all she has now are... )

Uh. All I got left are weapon like stuff. I got, uh, — ( she stops herself to reword her phrasing. ) I got a catcher but it's in the works. It's good for capturing beasts, people, or whatever. It's in a shape of ball and when you throw it, it extends out its ropes due to its velocity.

( chewing inside her cheek, she continues. )

If you're into that and if ya give me some time, I can have that ready for you. You'll be the first one I'll give it to. I was thinkin' about doing some kind of special offer with it. Limited deal.

[ in all actuality, she wasn’t interested in weapons. they were mostly props to her, small little things she could create with her own blood whenever she needed it. but she notices the heat in the girls cheeks like the wag of a dog’s tail. shooting her down would undo the work of praise. so, after putting on a face of thought, makima’s smile spreads as she pulls on the penguin figure’s head and adds it to her pile of now three. ]

I look forward to it. For now, I’ll take Mister Penguin.

Alright then! ( her heart can do summersaults right now. it's such a rare thing she can do a sale this big and so quickly. and if only she can just shove more things at makima's way because this joy is something she doesn't want to go away. in fact, when was the last time she felt this happy? jinx knows there was definitely time she was in grins and laughing wholeheartedly. but her mind is way too clouded with all sorts of negativity; all the bad that's happened to her to seek through the fog for it.

the girl casts one more look over the items the other picked out before flicking her gaze up to makima. )

So! Uh... this is the part we do a trade off. I'll take anythin' that'll give me dinner tonight. Oh, and uh, somethin' for Mob, too. I try to split whatever I make with him. He hasn't been around, but... whenever he comes back, he'll have a nice pocket of stuff waitin' for him.

[overlies]

This one, [ she taps the crystal sphere, ] is for Mob.

[ surprise, surprise!! ]

I stopped by to see if he was working again, with the doors open. [ in the meantime, she’s fishing for trade in her bag. bloodstones, especially, are counted from their leather containers and placed on the counter for jinx to check out. ] He lives with me.

( ooh, bloodstones! she picks up one to inspect; flipping and twisting to get a good look around. )

Oh, okay!

( the girl says with her eyes focusing heavily on the stone before checking the next one. ) — Tell him I said, "Hi" when ya see him next. I figured he's still y'know, recovering from the blast he caused a while ago.

Mentally and emotionally speaking, [ makima smiles and directs her gaze, without a blink, straight into jinx's probing eyes on the traded bloodstones. ] but he's been making progress.

[ and the icing, let's not forget: ]

It was nice to see you here, Jinx. I've seen this place closed and dim day in and out. I'm glad there's more shine to it now.

( it seems the bloodstones are good and legit (not that makima is the kind of gal who will give here faulty items -- just protocol), she sets them all down on the table in a neat little pile when she meets the other's gaze. there's some bewilderment in her blinks over her words, but a smile forms. it fills with gratitude but it's weak and worn out. )

Heh, thanks for the compliment. It's been, uh, rough. Just tryin' get back on the horse, y'know?

There's great strength in trying, all on its own.

[ she dips her head in agreement and tugs her dogs along once she has her gifts in hand. they all bound to her sides and look excited to bounce! ]

( a smile dances along here face but it quickly falters when something (or rather someone) prickles at the end of her ear. her eyes narrow as she listens closely, then does a full gaze to makima -- now skeptical. )

Is... there a reason why you're being so nice to me? Are you after something?

[ the voices are not wrong. she is. she is in a completely inappropriate way, but fooey with human standards. they don't know a thing when it comes to what's best for them. with her hands behind her back, makima turns halfway from her way to the door. with a pleasant smile and those wide golden eyes, she speaks as if her voice were a balm to soothe an ancient wound: ]

Just a friend.

[ she's not lying, deeply, but she is weaponizing it to the point that it might as well be a lie. ]

( 'just a friend.' is it really all that it is? it can't be that simple, right? just a friend. because things with jinx is never simple. not once, there's ever been going from section one to section two without some sort of catastrophe along the way.

maybe makima is like usagi but with a different dash of spice. she is someone who wishes to befriend and care for people, nothing more and nothing less. maybe she is someone who loves people just like her moonlight adores and trusts almost every person in trench -- even though jinx feels doing that is idiotic. so jinx says nothing, because what can she possibly say to one up that or question? instead, she flashes the woman a lightweight smile and... merely watches her exit out of her workshop. )
