forcechanic: (Disturbance in the Force)

A little too solo

Who: Jaina Solo + YOU
What: Jaina realizes her birthday probably passed. Alone.
When: First few days of April
Where: Varies

It doesn't strike her all at once. Trench doesn't use anything like the galactic standard calendar, after all. Sooner or later, she was going to do the math though.

She must be fifteen by now.

Their birthday passed and she's the only one here.

She spends some time trying to meditate, but mostly that just reminds her of that strange absence in the Force that she never felt before Trench. For all the new starts and intermediate squids, she's still not used to the connection to Jacen being missing.

She won't turn down any help from meditation experts, but eventually she'll realize it's not really getting her anyway. So instead, she might as well go find a place to make herself useful. That'll keep her from dwelling.

Anyone looking for help with heavy lifting or (be still her heart) mechanical work will find an eager set of hands.

Early the day perhaps?

Well, hmm.

He hadn't even started with asking her to do sitting meditation with him. It's not that he thinks she's incapable, but he knows it's not really what comes naturally to her, and he's trying to low-key figure out where she stands in certain areas. If she did get frustrated with herself, trying to sit still - well, it doesn't seem to him to be a fair place to start even a really informal assessment.

Instead, he suggests some open handed katas that could double as moving meditation. Except it doesn't take long to work out that isn't lessening the frictive edge to her usual teenaged bundle of energy. So he just stops and calmly turns to her, offering a sympathetic smile.

"I'd ask if I went too teacher-y on you somehow and set off some nerves, but I don't think that's it."

Oh, he has had conversations with his masters almost exactly like this is, when he's been off his game at practice. It feels a little surreal to be nominally on the other side of one.

"If you're feeling that off - it might not be perfectly reasonable, but I highly doubt it's silly."

Ezra's expression doesn't change much but perhaps Jaina can feel the wave of realization/sympathy/grief that come over him, anyway.

"Jaina...missing people you love is never silly. And lots of people have complicated feelings about their birthdays."

What's normal? Erza makes a thoughtful sound.

"Even though I was 14 before I met another obvious Force sensitive, my connections with my master were strong enough I have some idea what you mean." He ducks to meet her eyes and says more conspiratorially, "The thing I've never quite gotten used to is - I was born on Lothal and didn't go into space until the day I met Kanan."

He curls a hand into a loose fist, and pulls it towards him chest. "How it felt in the Force. Before I even know what I was feeling."

He sucks in a breath, thinking of how brightly Padmé's children had shown in the Force together, as newborns.

"Mourning what she didn't get to have," is what he says out loud. "Some things Luke has said makes me think that bond was never broken just...weakened, but-" He pauses, trying to figure out how much to say. "I told you before, that I knew that time could split in parallel but divergent lives? So I can tell you for a fact that - that yes, somewhere out there, Padmé Amidala and Anakin Skywalker's infant twins weren't immediately separated, and their bond was clear."

"It was...good," Ezra murmurs, his gaze flicking off into the distance, briefly. A strange little family only possible through the temporal weirdness of a place with some similarities to Trench, that hadn't been perfect, but good, and he misses being part of it.

He refocus on her. The person he's with.

"I'm not sorry I've gotten to meet you, Jaina. I just wish it hadn't come with being separated from Jacen and most of the rest of your family."
