When the silv'ry moonlight gleams, Still I wander on in dreams
Who: Fern Fun
laminae and open.
What: Trickster mode player plot.
When: Early December.
Where: Around Trench.
Content Warnings: Forced emotional stability, invasion of personal spaces, body horror.
[Fern has adjusted to the Omnis very quickly, so it isn't unusual for him to give his a quick check for messages early in the morning when he's still half-asleep. Especially in the wintertime, when the lack of sunlight makes it a bit harder for him to get going.
That's what he does this morning. He untangles one arm from around Varian, reaches for his Omni on the nightstand and, still mostly asleep, opens what appears to be a message from Karkat. It's weird and brightly coloured, but he isn't overly concerned or anything, so he goes ahead and clicks on the first link in the message.
And then he's candy.
He doesn't really remember the change. One second he's grass and sleepy and about to curl back up with his boyfriend in bed, and the next he's candy and just bursting with love and happiness? Emotional volatility? Nosir, only sugary sweetness can be found here! He curls back up with the sleeping Varian, and much like when he's grass his hair is everywhere. Now, however, it's more of a cotton candy texture, and lollipops and candy canes and other assorted sweets are growing in it. He grins widely at his boyfriend, poking at his cheek.]
Heyyyy, wakey wakey wakey....
[Eventually, Fern - Fun makes his way downstairs to the kitchen. What better way to start the day than to cook a wonderful breakfast for his friends? They'll wake up the smell of pancakes and muffins and all kinds of delicious things! It'll make them so happy!
Of course, Fern has never been much of a cook, and Fun certainly isn't. He proceeds to utterly trash the kitchen in his quest to do something nice for everyone. He cooks breakfast, yes, but everything - absolutely everything - is loaded with sugar. Even if you've got a big sweet tooth, even if your mouth is nothing but sweet tooths, you're going to find it all way too sweet.
But hey, he's having fun! He's humming to himself as he dances around the destroyed kitchen, plating everything up. Hopefully Trench has figured out how insulin works because yikes.]
[After destroying the house's kitchen, Fun gets bored and manages to evade the other residents, wandering outside into the city. He isn't looking for anything particular, he just feels like exploring Trench with fresh candy eyes. And oh, is it ever worth it! The fresh coating of snow blanketing everything makes the place look magical! With a body made of candy the winter weather isn't affecting him the same way it did when he was grass, so he's out there enjoying the snow to its fullest extent!
He can be found in various parts of Trench building snowmen and making snow angels. And if he sees you? He'll be racing over to try and yank you into a happy hug. Hello friend!! Hope you enjoy the invasion of your personal space! At least he smells minty fresh?
Unfortunately, he's also wandering in more dangerous sections of the city. Maybe he comes upon a monster, though that shouldn't be a problem, he can always make a sword and fight it -
Except no. A monster is just a friend he hasn't made yet, obviously! Please stop him from trying to hug the angry monster and getting his shit wrecked. He could really use some help right now.]

Disaster House
Coming down, she's greeted to a pretty disastrous kitchen, and that at least let her know who the perpetrator was: she had recently last month helped Fern clean up, so this definitely had his stink on it.
Or did it? She was pretty sure she hadn't seen him baking before, and then actually seeing him, Luz stopped short.
Oh boy. It was one of these days. Already?!
"Um, hey, Fern, buddy. What's going on?"

He feels an irritability slipping into his mind which wasn't there before he went to bed, and as such lets out a frustrated groan, trying to bury himself further under the furs of their bed. He just wants a few extra minutes of sleep, that's all he wants. ]

Disaster House
But it's not Luz. It's not anyone he's seen cooking before in this house at all.]
Fern?
[And he's looking different than usual, too. Luca walks into the kitchen, feeling uncertain. That...certainly is a big mess. Not that he isn't used to messes.]

snowy times for sad bro and new happy candy bro
Luna... She's the freshest worry on Peter's mind, and there are so many of them these days. Things have been.... It's not going great. Not at all. A lot has happened, so much that it's all starting to feel overwhelming, and Peter's sad most days and when he's not sad he just feels empty, and when he's neither of those things it's because he's scared.
Those zealots... People say they're not around so much anymore, but Peter can't relax about it. He has the leaf switchblade that Fern gave him for his birthday, tucked into his pocket. He's never used something like that before, but... it's there and ready.
It's at that moment that Peter sees a snowman-in-the-works up ahead. He's barely taken it in when something small and swift is suddenly hugging him, and he's looking down with wide eyes to see — )
Fern?
( ....Except it becomes immediately clear that something's different. Even so, Peter's arms can't help gently drifting around him in return, almost like instinct at this point. He looks highly confused though, one of those expressive brows cocked. )
Dude, you okay?

Snow Men
Fern! Is that you? [ asks Orpheus, who is, unusually, dressed up in a sharp brown and yellow tailcoat and even more unusually, a top-hat shaped like a stack of pancakes. ] It feels like it's been forever!
[ It has not been anywhere near forever or even more than a few days, probably, but shucks, isn't any time spent away from your friends just a little too long? ]
You look great! Is this a seasonal thing for you? I didn't know mint was a winter plant!

And now for something completely different....... [For Ange and Varian]
He isn't sure what to do, but he knows he needs to do something, so... he plans and plans and tries to come up with an idea that isn't utterly terrible. It isn't the worst idea he's ever had, though it's hardly the best. Thankfully for him, Ange is on board after he tells her what's going on with Varian. He knows he'd probably hate seeing another friend worry about him, but it's a little late to be concerned about that. Something - anything - needs to be done.
So music it is! Fern invites Ange over one afternoon, before hopping downstairs to the lab to drag Varian away from whatever it is he's working on. It's easy enough to do when he stresses there is something really really important going on upstairs, and looks about ready to physically manhandle him if he doesn't comply.
So up they go to the living room, where the piano is. Fern's pulled out his guitar and his flute, and because he isn't totally sure if Ange is up for attempting the piano he's also gone and acquired a tambourine. It's music jam time!!!]
Sooo yep, it's real important. Super important.

TREE - closed to Luz
There's a massive canyon, mostly empty aside from a gigantic purple cake-shaped mech. And several residents of Ooo, including Finn and Jake and Bubblegum and Marceline and Simon. Fern is there, too, clinging to a large rock Finn is standing on, his grass crumbling away from his body with the breeze. He grabs Finn's ankle, getting his attention.
"Hey Finn, I'm not doin' so good."
Finn, missing his robotic arm, gets down on his knees. "Oh no."
Fern removes his hat, which crumbles into bits of grass. His hair is even falling apart. "Yeah, I just wish I could see the treehouse one more time."
Finn takes Fern's hand. "Yeah, dude. Of course. Let's go there right now."
Jake, several feet away, looks visibly anxious about that remark, but Fern just smiles a little. "That's okay, just promise to plant me there."
Finn begins to tear up as his body crumbles away, leaving only a tiny sword-shaped seed behind.
The vision flickers to night, at the Tree Fort. Or rather, what's left of the Tree Fort, because it's been completely and thoroughly destroyed. Finn and Jake are standing in its remains, Finn down on his knees. Jake glances over and asks if he feels ready, and a few moments later Finn plants the sword seed.
Almost instantly something begins to grow, shaping itself into the beginnings of a brand new willow tree. Jammed through the very top of it is the Finn Sword.
Then the vision ends, just as abruptly as it started.]
