[ so after much waffling and discussion with fakir, ahiru finally came to the conclusion that she needs to tell her friends the truth. well . . . her house mates at least. she wasn't going to go around blabbing it to everyone. she wasn't quite ready for that.

but if there's one thing this place has taught her, it's not safe to keep her secret all to herself. ahiru needed people in her corner and she believed her house-mates would protect her.

and hopefully . . . not too much will change. she hopes. ]

Uhm, I'm glad you're all here. I have something important to tell you guys. I've been keeping a secret.

Not like a big secret or a dark secret, but more like a secret about me. A personal, kind of weird, don't freak out sort of secret.

[ there's the sound of water and a squeak from ahiru, coupled with the ruffle of clothing. and she comes back, a little frazzled. ]

I heard water. Is water what changes you, too? Only...to human, instead of into a fish person?

Yeah, that's how the spell works. If I act like a duck, I turn into a duck.

But if I come into contact with water, I change back.

That seems...really inconvenient. Since humans are kind of terrible at swimming.

[It seems a lot safer to turn into the water based creature when exposed to water rather than the other way around.]

I don't think Drosselmeyer really cares about convenience.

[ but she does agree. ]

Yeah, it seems like he doesn't...but it's still nice knowing someone else who changes kind of like I do!

[ yeah but luca gets more autonomy. ahiru . . . doesn't. but she doesn't want to put a damper on it with her own issues. ]

I'm kind of curious about why it was a secret, though. Do people not like shape shifting ducks where you're from?

Ducks don't really . . . do that. Anywhere.

[schoolingfish]

Of course they do! You do, so that means there's at least one duck who does that! I was just hoping no one back home's mean to you just because you're a duck.

I have some magic which is how I can do it. Trust me, ducks don't change shape.

Maybe most don't. It doesn't really matter why you can do it or where the magic comes from, it's still something you can do and I think it's neat, and I'm glad you don't think you have to hide it anymore.

And I'm still keeping it a secret.

Oh. I'll make sure to not tell anyone, then. I kind of understand, though. I've been...kind of edging into telling more people since people here don't seem to care? But I've been super cautious about it and it still makes me nervous, so I understand why you don't want to tell everyone.

Well...if anyone finds out you're a duck and they give you any trouble for it, let us know, okay? Because no one in this house will let anyone be mean to you.

Good. And I think it's nice that we have something sort of in common.
