Scarred? I didn't really hear too much about what people saw or experienced. Only that there was some girl who was dreaming it all. I guess that could lead to nightmares. [Which fell in line with other stories she's heard.] Isn't it just trading one hell for another?

[Okay, now she's being a downer. She does her best to shake it off. It's the frustration talking, the need for a proper meditation.]

Um yeah. N...not that powerful of one. Not like Willow, um my girlfriend. She's much more powerful than me. [She's rambling.] I draw more of my powers from my connection to nature.

Scarred. Trust me, it might seem like we moved on, but they definitely happened and changed the trajectory for some of us in a lot of ways. But that was what happened, with the girl dreaming, and I can tell you that it did lead to nightmares. Things you definitely didn't want to remember. Where we are now? We aren't at that level yet.

[Not that Trench was a happy Candyland or anything, but it wasn't Deerington. Not yet].

Oh, Willow? I've met her! I've been trying to see if she could help me with my own witch stuff, honestly. I need a new teacher since mine woke up back in Deerington, and before that it was the Boiling Isles, which had a whole school. You can see that I'd be lacking!

Aren't witches connected to nature powerful in your world?

What...what sort of nightmares, exactly? [If the blood zealots didn't reach that sort of level, she had to wonder how bad it could get in Deerington.] If it's not too much, is it okay to ask what's the worst you remember?

[It feels like an intrusive question, something that she feels bad even bringing up to him. If it was scarring, it was likely not something he'd want to talk about. She might not want to in his position.]

Willow is definitely the best teacher you could have. I can't say I've ever heard of a school before. Just a group, but even in Sunnydale, there weren't many.

It depends?
[It was sad she had to say that].

Do you mean before the dream started to go under, or during? There was pretty much an outbreak of monsters in the during part, and before that it would really come down to certain things that happened in the month, like this one. There are people who have been here longer than me, so they could probably tell you about the worst parts of Deerington than I could.

For me, I'd have to say that my worst part would be when I had to navigate around all the flying monster creatures just to go from one place to another. I'm really lucky my mentor left me her staff to fly on when that happened.

[There was also being held captive by the cannibal cave men and the huge worms that could eat you whole, but one thing at a time. She wasn't trying to freak out this poor woman].

You think so? I'll admit I have to reconnect with her, but she seems to still be trying to see how well her magic works here. I'm pretty sure some hard stuff happened to her in Deerington too.

Wait, Sunnydale? You're actually FROM where Willow is?

It's hard to imagine that sort of place. The way people talk about it, it sounds really horrific. The whole sense of Deerington had to be overwhelming and heavy. [Maybe she should be glad that she had never seen it, but there was a part of her that wanted to understand better. Maybe because Willow was still so effected by it and that was where her life in these worlds really began.] What little they tell me, it sounds pretty much the same. Horror, monsters, fear.

That's what Willow told me too. She seems to think my magic should work fine here. Even if I can't really channel the earth and energy like I used to.

[She smiled shyly.]

I am. I met Willow in college.

Probably better that way. It had a whole creepy fifties vibe gone wrong to it, and that only got worse the longer you were there. By comparison, this place is much bigger and has more of a goth/steampunk vibe. With horror.

[But it was at least less confining].

There's definitely a difference in the ground here. I noticed that myself. You CAN get through it, but you have to sort of align yourself to this place, and that takes time.

[She knew through Fern that the flora and fauna of this world was not like Earth.

That smile though...they weren't...what Luz THOUGHT they were, were they]?

I guess you guys hit it off pretty well?

At least it gives me an idea on what I have to do or focus on. [It was better than stumbling blind from here. She would have to sense and reach through the ground before she even attempted to connect to the energy.] I guess it's my fault for thinking of this place as being close to home.

[Was it because of her belief this was a Hell dimension connected to Sunnydale? Maybe that was her fault?]

We did. Uh, we do.

[She's hesitant to share much else, mainly out of shyness. Willow was always more bold while Tara let her lead who knew what.]

I guess you met Willow in Deerington?

It would be nice if they weren't that different, but this place has its own vibes and rules in some ways that are pretty different from Earth.

[And you really had to mind where they applied, or you'd run into some big issues].

Right, I gotcha.

[Luz knows a 'ship when she sees one, but she was going to back off on that, since Tara seemed hesitant to go on about it].

I learned ABOUT her in Deerington, but we met properly here. By then she was one of a few witches I heard about, and I'd just lost the teacher I had here, so I sought her out.

She's a good teacher for anyone that wants to strengthen their abilities.

[Had she said that? It's hard to remember, but it might come across as gushing if she had.]

She's always the go to person when there's trouble or a spell needed.

I think you're right. She's been nothing but helpful to me there, and I can tell she's struggling to see how her magic works here.

[Not helped by Darth Maul and his swearing of vengeance, but Luz knew very little about that].

This might sound silly, but I think that she might need to hear that. A lot has happened to her that even I don't know about. I know she was in Deerington longer, so that already means she's had a lot to deal with.

I think we all are. [She ran her hand over the ground, struggling to feel the power and energy that normally would surge up to meet her.] Everything is jumbled here.

[If that even made sense.]

You think that she's not feel her best?

[Tara frowned. She hadn't noticed any doubt in Willow, but it could always be a front of bravery for Tara's sake.]

[That was sure an understatement. Luz was becoming very aware of how keeping a lot of her pain and frustration in was making things pretty bad for her recently, enough that she had to weather corruption herself].

I haven't seen her in about a month, but there is a LOT that can happen in a month. I think it might be worth it to have a deep talk with her soon. Unless she stayed home, which I doubt, things have probably happened that she'll need to talk about with someone.

Who better than someone she cares a lot for from back home?

[It's something that she's not looking forward to, but knows she eventually has to do. Willow was likely going through a lot, given how long she's been there. On top of that, there's the whole death thing that they haven't touched on.]

You should see her again too. I bet she'd like that.

[It steers the conversation on the things she's been avoiding.]

Oh, I will! Things have just been so crazy lately I hadn't the chance! I just figured, you know, she'd be really happy seeing someone from home. I know I would!

[It had been months since Eda had been here, and the memory of that was still pretty raw, despite how long it had been].

I'm sure she'd want to help you adjusted to this place.

Yeah, she is. I guess some others were here before, but they left.

[She doesn't want to admit that she wants to leave just as much and return to that warm place she was at rest. So for now, she'd smile and show gratefulness that she could be with Willow. It's what Willow wanted and needed.]

She's done her best. There are some things I have to figure out on my own, not that it's made anything easier or better. I always seem to mess up or not pick something up.

That's never a good feeling. Man.

[Luz was really going to try and not think about how aimless she'd felt when Eda was gone. Willow must have been through a lot, forgetting Darth Maul as a threat.

Oh boy. Luz was certainly missing some context there].

You think so? I think it depends. What did you do back home?

I was still in college. [But she never got to finish and probably wouldn't ever again. What with being dead and all.] I don't know really what I wanted to do. I was thinking about teaching, maybe?

I like English literature.

[She wasn't used to questions like that. Most of what she was asked was related to Willow or Sunnydale, as well as things happening here. How long had it been since someone asked her what she wanted to do or how she wanted to live?]

Oh, a college student! I think there are still classes here. You might want to think about becoming an Arcane scholar if that suits your fancy.

[Then again, Tara had her pick of what she wanted to do now, so maybe she had something else in mind].

Me too! I actually read a lot back home! I've not been able to do that as much nowadays, but I did like what we used to get back on Earth!

[It had been some time since she was back there, honestly].

Me? I'm working part time at a bakery doing deliveries and studying my magic when I have the time.

Which, lately, I've been a little distracted on.
