The Wedding

It's not a normal wedding. There's no officiant, they're not standing up in front of a bunch of people to declare their love: this is a Trench wedding, based on Mako and Wu's shared traditions, inventing some new ones.

The ceremony itself is a procession, from the beach to the Raccoon Room. It starts with just the two of them, at a flower arch on the beach, their hands clasped together, each in a gold suit with red and green accents on the collar and as piping down the front. They walk together along a flower strewn path, talking quietly with one another, sharing small, nervous smiles.

If you are close to the couple, you recieved a red envelope, delivered either by raccoon or small dragon, a few days before the wedding, inviting you to the ceremony. The small crowd gathers outside the Raccoon Room, where the threshold is decked out in red roses. The couple stands in the doorway, saying their vows, and pressing a blood-and-ash covered hand to the other's cheek.

While the ceremony is private, the reception isn't. Invites have gone out to basically the entire city, via Wu's post, so it's a pretty public event. Maybe you're coming because you saw that post. Maybe you're coming because you're involved somehow, maybe you just see a flower-and-light-filled party and decide to drop in. Everyone is welcome. After all, this is Trench, and everyone could be dead tomorrow, so why not celebrate something good while you have the chance? Come in, dance to music from different worlds, eat cake and noodles and dumplings, celebrate a little moment of happiness while you can. The party's going all night, and the couple making their solemn, slightly-bloody vows to each other are only the excuse for it.

The Party

Naturally, since this is Mako and Wu's wedding, it's at the Raccoon Room, decked out even more grandly than it was for its opening. Roses adorn every surface and drop from the ceiling in strings, perfuming the air. Scattered between them are red-and-gold lanterns, casting a dim, inviting light onto velvet hangings. Lining the walls are tables full of food and drinks. Everyone can't fit into this little venue, so Wu has also set up a draping tent outside, full of burning braziers of coal to keep the chill away. The doors are wide open to let the music from inside out: it's just the party, continued! Renfri can be found behind the bar, dishing up custom drinks.

The Music

Chicken Choice Judy, or Ryan Akagi and Min-Gi Park, make their Trench debut on the stage of the Raccoon Room, playing an eclectic mix of original music, 80s hits, current pop, and classical piano music. They begin with a slowed-down version of Lil Nas X's Montero, ease into an upbeat version of That's What I Want, and things take off from there. Maybe give them requests? They might play some of your favorite dance songs! This is a party for everyone, after all. A big space in front of the stage has been cleared for dancing, and the music will be going all night.

The Couple

After the more private ceremony (with only close friends and loved ones, for Mako's peace of mind) Mako and Wu are as available as any couple at their wedding, which is to say, not terribly. With new dark handprints from the ceremony on their faces—really, more on their necks, because Wu wouldn't stand for a giant handprint ruining his look—they can be found chatting with friends, huddled together whispering, or dancing together. They'll try to mingle as much as they can, but they're in pretty high demand tonight!

[ Having Chuck and Raleigh at the ceremony was an obvious choice, and it felt so good to have them there, these two men who had such an impact on Wu's time in Deerington, on his relationship with Mako, on how he sees himself.

He laughs brightly when Raleigh starts boogying at him, and he himself is decently tipsy, verging on drunk, not that he really needs it, he dances back at him with a little shimmy before leaping up into the hug. Raleigh can take it, he's big and strong and he can catch Wu as he wraps his arms around Raleigh's shoulders ]

Raleigh! Raleigh, buddy, my guy! You didn't tell me you and Chuck are tying the knot!

[He catches Wu like it's been choreographed, swinging them around in a circle before setting him down. He lets go but it is. It is delayed. It's a really good hug. It's such a good hug and he is so happy.

And then Wu's words sink into his dumb brain and he laughs, pulling back and holding Wu by his shoulders. His nose and cheeks look like he's been rolling in blue raspberry.]

Well probably! It makes sense, doesn't it? But this is the first I'm hearing about it. Do you think he'd marry me?

[royalfling]

[ Oh, he loves this hug. This is a good hug. He squeezes tight until Raleigh lets him down, and holds onto Raleigh's arms because he's a little unsteady too.

But, boy, coldbloods blushing is so cute. So, so cute and Wu grins at him until the words really hit him. Raleigh can watch his expression sink ]

Wait. Wait! You didn't know? He didn't tell you!? [ Those last words are practically a screech ]

[righthemisphere]

Shhhh shh shh Wu, Wu, man, Wu. Don't freak out.

[There are a few side eyes happening. Why is Raleigh panicking Wu on his wedding night, who does that, what a jerk.]

Listen to me. [Slow and purring. Raleigh's voice can be something when he's speaking with pointed intention.]

I am gonna wife the fuck outta that guy. We both know it, everyone knows it. But him telling you.. that's good. That means it's real. This is a good thing.

[royalfling]

[ Wu is a little stunned, by that voice, yeah, and by the words. His freak out turns into a smile, and he grips Raleigh's arms tightly ]

You are? You're really going to? Oh, good. Phew! I thought I just did that thing again. You know, the thing where I tell someone something I'm not supposed to.

You're going to get married! Do the, the bonding ritual! Raleigh, that's so wonderful.

...why did he tell you?

[righthemisphere]

Nah man, you're good. It's all good. Everything is good.

[If anything this just jettisons him into space. But man is he gonna give Chuck Hell for this in a little bit. Can't wait~]

We haven't talked about it in so many words.. but. It's just a feeling. You know? You just know. Like I know he's my soulmate. He's it, he's the one. And if we can... Man- Wu. What's it like? The bond, is it good?

[royalfling]

Yeah... yeah, his soulmate. You Earth people really care about those, huh?

[ He doesn't know if it's a real thing or not, soulmates, but if it is, he wants to believe that he and Mako are them. ]

That's, that's how I feel about Mako! He's it, he's the one guy I want to be with, forever. It's, Raleigh.

[ He grips Raleigh's shoulders now, very seriously ]

Raleigh, it's amazing. It's like, it's the most wonderful feeling in the world. I can feel Mako, I can feel his thoughts like he's right next to me, telling me what he thinks. I can, I can hear how much he loves me, and it feels so, so right.

[righthemisphere]

[Man, he can't help but smile. That sounds so familiar.

He misses drifting like that. Sometimes Raleigh isn't the best with his words but in the drift you don't need to be. You just need To Be. It is so much easier to communicate. So effortlessly woven together.

Raleigh steadies himself by placing his hand on Wu's side. He loves thinking about these things, as mushy and romantic as they can be. Raleigh spends hours waxing poetic to himself. It isn't really chuck's thing, and that's okay, but he has composed volumes of purple prose on the subject. Hell, on Chuck, himself.]

That sounds like drifting. I love that you get the experience that feeling. It's the most natural thing in the world, isn't it? Remind me to tell you about the soulmate theory.

[royalfling]

It really feels right. It feels like we should have always been doing this, him and me.

[ It's sappy and mushy and Wu loves it, he loves it, even if he's holding onto Raleigh in a way that probably would be romantic if this weren't literally his wedding and Raleigh wasn't literally about to get engage.

But he squeals, and throws himself into another hug, wrapping Raleigh up tight. ]

Yes, you have to tell me! You have to tell me, but you have to, have to dance with me, now!

[righthemisphere]

[Raleigh laughs and squeezes him back. He knows Wu likes being carried, so he just. Doesn't let go. No, he just picks Wu up and turns and marches them to the dance floor with purpose.

Chicken Choice Judy are singing Single Ladies. It was meant to be. Maybe the soulmate theory can wait. It is a good one, though. Remind him some time.]
