The Wedding

It's not a normal wedding. There's no officiant, they're not standing up in front of a bunch of people to declare their love: this is a Trench wedding, based on Mako and Wu's shared traditions, inventing some new ones.

The ceremony itself is a procession, from the beach to the Raccoon Room. It starts with just the two of them, at a flower arch on the beach, their hands clasped together, each in a gold suit with red and green accents on the collar and as piping down the front. They walk together along a flower strewn path, talking quietly with one another, sharing small, nervous smiles.

If you are close to the couple, you recieved a red envelope, delivered either by raccoon or small dragon, a few days before the wedding, inviting you to the ceremony. The small crowd gathers outside the Raccoon Room, where the threshold is decked out in red roses. The couple stands in the doorway, saying their vows, and pressing a blood-and-ash covered hand to the other's cheek.

While the ceremony is private, the reception isn't. Invites have gone out to basically the entire city, via Wu's post, so it's a pretty public event. Maybe you're coming because you saw that post. Maybe you're coming because you're involved somehow, maybe you just see a flower-and-light-filled party and decide to drop in. Everyone is welcome. After all, this is Trench, and everyone could be dead tomorrow, so why not celebrate something good while you have the chance? Come in, dance to music from different worlds, eat cake and noodles and dumplings, celebrate a little moment of happiness while you can. The party's going all night, and the couple making their solemn, slightly-bloody vows to each other are only the excuse for it.

The Party

Naturally, since this is Mako and Wu's wedding, it's at the Raccoon Room, decked out even more grandly than it was for its opening. Roses adorn every surface and drop from the ceiling in strings, perfuming the air. Scattered between them are red-and-gold lanterns, casting a dim, inviting light onto velvet hangings. Lining the walls are tables full of food and drinks. Everyone can't fit into this little venue, so Wu has also set up a draping tent outside, full of burning braziers of coal to keep the chill away. The doors are wide open to let the music from inside out: it's just the party, continued! Renfri can be found behind the bar, dishing up custom drinks.

The Music

Chicken Choice Judy, or Ryan Akagi and Min-Gi Park, make their Trench debut on the stage of the Raccoon Room, playing an eclectic mix of original music, 80s hits, current pop, and classical piano music. They begin with a slowed-down version of Lil Nas X's Montero, ease into an upbeat version of That's What I Want, and things take off from there. Maybe give them requests? They might play some of your favorite dance songs! This is a party for everyone, after all. A big space in front of the stage has been cleared for dancing, and the music will be going all night.

The Couple

After the more private ceremony (with only close friends and loved ones, for Mako's peace of mind) Mako and Wu are as available as any couple at their wedding, which is to say, not terribly. With new dark handprints from the ceremony on their faces—really, more on their necks, because Wu wouldn't stand for a giant handprint ruining his look—they can be found chatting with friends, huddled together whispering, or dancing together. They'll try to mingle as much as they can, but they're in pretty high demand tonight!

[He's quickly rubbing his finger over his teeth just in case. He guesses he'll take Wu's word for it. That giggling though...sus.]

Hey, of course I've been saying good things, [he interjects.]

Allow me to second that- congratulations. I think you've really outdone yourself with how you've decorated the Raccoon Room for this.

[royalfling]

The pleasure is mine, Lumine. I'm Wu! [ He shakes her hand enthusiastically with a broad grin ] He said you're a swell lady. I just know this big lug, so if you put up with him, you must be made of tough stuff.

[ Teasing Childe isn't necessarily something Wu would always do, but he's feeling so happy and giddy right now that he doesn't mind teasing this man who wants to fight gods.

He lets go of her hand to clap his own together ]

Thank you! Well, that was Bolin, Fern, and Manabu, really. They did just great! I'm really a lucky guy, with all these great friends.

[traversal]

[ the corner of her lips quirk a little higher, stifling a laugh at the gentle teasing. she doesn't want to be accused of piling on top, even if it's more than tempting to continue what he started and her eyes carefully glance at childe's face to gauge his reaction. ]

You have no idea how much I have to put up with most of the time.

[ lumine says nothing more, giving him a slight nod and taking a step back when he releases her hand. ]

Was this something you've been planning for a while now?

[His hand goes up behind his head, a guilty smile across his face. Yeah he's a handful...but man, getting teased by both of them like this. He could of sworn he left all his siblings at home...

He's just going to be quiet for a moment and let them talk!]

[royalfling]

I can only imagine! [ Wu flashes Childe a grin before focusing back on Lumine ] Oh, not that long! A month? Three weeks? When I read about the ceremony, it said that it's strongest during the egg moon, so we had to get right on it!

Back home, my wedding would have been a whole big deal, so it's nice that it can just be this. [ This super, low-key party where he invited the whole town! ]

[traversal]

This ... isn't a whole big deal?

[ lumine blinks, a look of surprise crossing her expression. if this is low-key, then she can't imagine what a "big deal" wedding would be. an entire festival, most likely, if nothing less. but it's more surprising to her that this was only planned a few weeks ago, the same time when she's learned about the different bonding rituals.

so to plan something on such short notice and such a scale ... ]

Ah, but I guess the decision to go through with the ceremony isn't difficult to make when you and your partner have known each other for a while now.

[ though pure, unadulterated recklessness can also push forward a decision. still, she's just glad people are finding someone they can seek comfort in despite the circumstances. ]

I'll second that, [Childe chimes in, unsurprised at all by Wu's declaration about weddings here.] Snezhnayan weddings can take a few days up to a week, so having this celebration alone isn't quite on the scale that I would imagine a royal wedding would have.

[He gets you, buddy.]

Though...I assume you're speaking of the bonding ceremony, Wu. Sate my curiosity...what's it like?

[Childe is very unsure about the idea of having someone in his head. It's honestly pretty dangerous in more ways than one, if he's being honest...]

[royalfling]

Exactly! If this had been back home, and I was still King, boy. That would be a doozy. [ Long wedding solidarity here! ] But Mako would have hated that! So this, this is just for us. [ For Wu, this is for Wu.]

We've known each other for years! But, well, we've only been together for a year, but what a year it's been!

[ At the mention of the bonding ceremony, Wu gets starry-eyed and sighs dramatically, waving a hand in the air ]

Oh, it's really something! It's, I don't really know how to describe it. It's like staying up late and sharing your deepest secrets and dumbest thoughts with someone, but all the time! It's so, so intimate, and there's no one I'd rather share it with, really. Mako, that big lug, he's the only guy I'd want in my head, and I'm glad he's in there!

[traversal]

[ a mild expression crosses lumine's face at the mention of "king", but she says nothing about it. if archons can be brought to this place, then why not royalty? kings and queens and leaders of other worlds ... prince and princesses, even. how unsettling.

but she maintains a smile on her lips anyway, watching him ramble happily about his partner. she knows very little about wu, but she can certainly why he and childe are friends. in any case, she's really more interested in how this ritual goes, letting the two talk while she listens. ]

[On one hand, he sees how romantic having the one you love in your head all the time. If that works for Wu and Mako, he's happy for them. And given how bright and friendly Wu is, it's probably a nice experience for the two of them. He doesn't know Mako quite as well, but if he's the kind of guy that wants Wu in his head all the time? He's probably a pretty good guy.

On the other hand, he can't imagine what it would be like for anyone hearing his own evil laughter, bloodthirsty enjoyment of fighting and killing his enemies, along with constant battle meditation in their heads. To each their own. Doesn't sound like it's for him.]

Sounds like it was the perfect ritual for the two of you to partake in. Oh, I'd nearly forgotten. I do hope you like the wedding gift I've gotten for the two of you. I'm not sure if either of you drink, but in Snezhnaya, we would use it for a liquor called Fire-Water. Of course, you can use it for whatever you please- you'll see what I mean once you open it. Thankfully, I was able to find a shop that would make it to the specifications I required, since I wanted it to look like the tableware from my homeland.

[royalfling]

[ A gift, a gift?! He hasn't opened it yet, but he remembers Childe's promise to get him something fit for a king. Even as he's tried to step away from the kind of consumerism he used to thrive on, he still loves it, and he peeks over toward the gift table ]

Oh, we do! I can't wait to see it, Childe. Maybe we can have you both over, share a drink together! Oh, yes, we have to do that. Toast to your relationship, and ours!

[ He laughs brightly, reaching out for both of their hands ]

I'm so glad you're here. And thank you, thank you! For the gift, for being here. It really means the world, the worlds! To have so many people celebrating with us.

[traversal]

[ lumine's about to offer her own gift, a tea set decorated with a phoenix and a dragon, when she stops, blinking confusedly at his toast and the hand that's suddenly taking hers. less about the hand, really, but more about his ... toast, her gaze flickering sideways at childe and then back at wu.

their relationship, huh. ]

... Right. Of course.

[ she isn't entirely sure what childe's been telling his friends about them, but she does feel like this isn't really the place or occasion to be dour about it. ]

Thank you as well for the invitation. It's my honour to meet and celebrate this occasion with you and your partner.

[Uh oh. He can already tell he might be in a little trouble, but that's okay. He can handle it, no big deal. For now though, time to gloss over that little part. He smiles warmly back, nodding his head.]

Yes, this entire occasion has been quite magnificent indeed. It's been a very enjoyable night, and I can't thank you enough for inviting us. Coming over to share a drink or two sounds lovely, I'll make sure to bring something especially exquisite. It just so happens that we both have a friend here that makes some of the most famous wine in Teyvat. I'll procure a bottle or two from him.

[royalfling]

[ Wu catches that little look and-- oh no. Oh no, did he do it again? Did he really spoil a third relationship in so many weeks?

But they're not talking about it. They're not talking about it and that's-- good? ]

Oh-- oh! Yes, I'd love to, to try that. [ His voice is a little high-pitched now, and he squeezes their hands before letting go. ] Yeah, we'll have to! Do that! Um, enjoy the party.

[ And he's just going to... side step on out of there to whine at Mako in his head that SOMEHOW HE DID IT AGAIN ]

Thank ... you?

[ ... that was confusing? and weird? and lumine has no idea what just happened, her eyes trained on wu's back as he retreated from them, obviously distressed. the whiplash between sheer excitement to sudden panic was disconcerting for one long moment, and she wonders if it's something she said; she didn't say her thoughts out loud, did she? more importantly, though ...

she turns to childe, an eyebrow arched. ]

... You sure didn't bother to correct him. Is there something I should know?

[ what have you been telling your friends about them, childe? curious minds demand an answer. ]

[Oof, he knows that look.]

Hey now, I did tell him that we weren't dating previously, just courting each other so to speak. He probably just forgot.

[He smiles, thinking this is a perfectly good explanation. And it's the truth! No deceiving here. Just honest mistakes.]

Besides, if I had I'd only of embarrassed him further. There's no need to do that to him on his special day. Look, he's already scurried off. You wouldn't want to make him feel more terrible, would you?

[traversal]

[ look, there are ways to correct a person without embarrassing them, especially if said person is a friend, childe.

but you know what, lumine just hums, unconvinced, shifting her gaze away from him. his friend scurrying off isn't exactly very reassuring; if anything, she feels rather bad that he had to leave when he didn't have to, all because of a misunderstanding that could've been mitigated early on. ah well. ]

You make it sound like I was the one who made him leave ...

[ a sigh, before she glances at him once more, gesturing at the box in her hands. ] I'll go leave this with their other gifts. I'll see you in a bit.
